It shouldn't be a virus. Anti-virus suspects only. I told you I ran inside
Wine (so no chance of getting malware/spyware/stealth trozan)

It detects your IP.

And yes, if you use xampp on windows it should be fine. But using webhost
like www.000webhost.com is fine as well.

Well, I thought about it too. My downlink BW is around 220kbits and

It may not be very fast. In fact, it would be a slow web page. But in

Look I am no expert in this field, so it is better for the expert to explain
all the benefits we might have.

For one, Ubuntu is a prepackaged system, with its own software
packages/features... customizing to our hearts is possible but will require
lots of time and effort. and few things will be there that we won't be able
to change (unless we get our hand real dirty)

On the other hand Debian is clean slate to work with, customizing our hearts
pleasure. There are thousands of developers developing millions of
applications for Debian (though Ubuntu uses Debian-apt package management
system it will have to be aligned in our custom system.), In one word
developers paradise

Look at it this way. You have two drawing book,

one with pre-sketched one just gives you opportunity to color it, that's
Ubuntu. the second book is clean white page to give you liberty to draw
whatever you like to draw and color as colorful you like that's Debian

Flexibility is the key here...

(I want to try with various packages available out there to find the best
possible configurations...giving light, super fast, user friendly
experience)

Check if you can ping your GUEST OSs IP from host OS. Then you might

Re: [Ubuntu-BD] Help needed about hosting a web page

2008-12-03 Thread Hafiz Imtiaz
Firstly, Thank you for your quick reply.

@shiplu vai,

I want to host a webpage which would be accessible for all. I know I
don't have a static IP, but that might be covered by DynDNS or
NO-IP.com type services. All I want is to host my tiny personal web
page [of about 50MB total size] on my own PC. I fear to host it on my
PC directly due to virus and firewall problems. Thus I have decided to
create a virtual web server using VirtualBox and host the web page
there.

@Lenin vai,

I have downloaded XAMPP for both windows and linux. I will install it
manually. My main problem is the internet connectivity from Guest and
Host. My host runs windows xp pro sp3 and my net connection is
SonyEricsson k550i GP-EDGE.

Thank you in advance.

sure, why not. we can guide and share our experience. but suzan has
gone usa for his msc+phd. i think we can sort that out in separate

I mean, we worked with knoppix probably on 2004? our first version was
made on morphix, released on 2003? now it is end of 2008. lots of
things have changed!

ya that's the point, as we can just enable bn_BD locale while booting. ;)

That's the real question I wanted people to answer.

Ubuntu is easy by itself (and hopefully will get much more easier in time)
so do we need to feed them with everything we can cramming in a disk?

The first idea was to create a customized Ubuntu version just to include the
codecs/restricted extras (which Medibuntu already does)

Then we just wanted to have a better suited distro for most peoples in
Bangladesh.
Low resource requirements, good package management, just click and go,
better support from the scratch, consumer centric (maybe customizable).

Ubuntu is nice true, but we need something more out of it..lots to improve.
Response from Ubuntu Dev team and the Canonical is slow (and its
understandable.. it have grown into such a big project)

Besides Ubuntu I have heard there are few other projects that shifts good
distro (though I have not used anything but Ubuntu)

May be a combined jogaKhichuri from different distro??? Identifying lacking
in Ubuntu trying to solve them.

(the last point just to tell people we developed a Linux Distro :P)

Re: [Ubuntu-BD] Discussion and planning on RBL linux distro

2008-12-03 Thread Shahriar Tariq
I think there is a misunderstanding..

*Royal Bengal Linux WON'T Include CODECS or RESTRICTED EXTRAS in DEFAULT
Installation.*
No matter what the public demand is. No matter who uses/includes them in
their distro/project.

Yes we are aware of the legal issues and licensing problems, and we DO NOT
support piracy at any level, in Linux world we can also have piracy (in
terms of Cedega, Red Hat Pirated copy)

However we will provide additional measures like including few basic
non-free (in terms of Openness) codecs in the dvd to be installed as addon
after installing the main RBL without restricted/non-free codecs.

I want to keep the project as clean as possible.. I think following Ubuntu
or Ankur project is good for idea generation but that can not be the final
decision point. We should have our own identity. That's why I want to go
ahead with *Debian not Ubuntu*. (Not sure whether how tough it is
technically)

I think Russell John is no longer interested in the project. I asked him too
many times to respond and send an email, he just ignores...

Does anyone else have any interest in the project and the expertise to push
through??

If you are to ignore "legal" issues then you are promoting/performing
"piracy". And in that case, we should not only discourage such
projects, legal actions should be taken to punish such attempts. If
you are such a Linux fan, please don't use Linux as a vehicle to
promote piracy. Ther's already enough misunderstanding about FOSS due
to these type of amateurish attempts. Above all this actions help
supporter of proprietary software to spread FUD about FOSS.

But going back to the question of who to legalize it? I guess the
answer is in finding "how" not "who".

For a start find out if BD has got software copyright laws in place?
Is it under IP/Patent pact with other countries? Does it conforms to
WIPO treties
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Intellectual_Property_Organization).

At the same time, find out the IP/Patent rights associated with the
codecs that you want to include in your distribution.

You will see that things are starting to make sense.
