What you were doing?? Mind yourself first.

You were unnecessary stereotyping the OS in every piece of your mails, mind
that first before someone's turns in. And you were mocking, huh, now you are
telling to imrpove my manner?? funny you!

respect is not something that need to be earned Ashik, not acting funny and
mocking like that. If you think I ruin to be respected for this mail, who
the hell wanted to be respected. me??? errr, no, not at all. .
and I dont care who is respecting me or not. I care about this List
(specially Ubuntu) and thats why when u said mocking "I forgot it's a ubuntu

Dear SYMON SYMON,

There is another thing I want to add
Downloading Thunderbird for Windows, Linux or Mac would take more or  
less same time.
Same goes for installation - installation time should take more or  
less same.


So why to fade up this early? Installation of software is easier in  
Linux.
Besides, somebody else (most probably Nasim bhai) already mentioned -  
Ubuntu comes with a built-in mailing client called Evolution. Which is  
almost same as Thunderbird. You just had to ask someone when you were  
facing problem.


My suggestion is, when you'll get free, try Ubuntu Linux again. Ask  
questions to us or any ubuntu forums you like. Search on google for  
solutions. Ubuntu is far more easier to use, takes amazingly low  
resources, doesn't crash on the face when you are working on really  
important job. All these features made Ubuntu superior. I did all my  
programming assignments and reports on Ubuntu just for this reason.


Once you have prepared a nice and perfect setup according to your  
purpose now you can use this setup for a really loong time, with  
out worrying about viruses, spy-wares, crashes, and other stuffs that  
made Windows users reinstalling OS 10TPM (Times Per Month).


Just give it a fair try, and you won't turn back. I can assure you.

Yes some days ago you pretend yourself as a ambassador of Fedora on this 
list.

I didn't want to get into the distro fight, but something I noticed 
before which I want to mention here. You did some advocacy of loving 
distro Fedora and some days back you started fighting with a guy saying 
Fedora and Red Hat are not same (Guys! please stop laughing, he is 
very new in this linux world and don't have any knowledge on anything). 
Come on, when you do some advocacy, you need at least some knowledge. 
When we say something against Fedora, we have at least some knowledge on 
that.

Now about Hasin and your fights. I think you did a mistake by sending a 
mail criticizing the list and you *have to* apologize for that. We don't 
have any intension of stopping you from doing advocacy of Fedora, if we 
had then you would be banned from this list by now. You are a kid and 
you still have lot more to learn and we have no problem to give you a 
good guide.

So say sorry and stop the war before the situation take a wrong turn.

But please!  The fact remains that I couldn't even install Ubuntu from
the DVD I got from the Hardy Heron Party. It shows the first page
which says to chose and reboot. After reboot the original desktop is
back! I checked my DVD drive with another DVD and it works alright. My
PC's configuration:

Pentium IV  2.26 GHz  ! MB RAM
Present OS: Windows XP
Free Space in C: drive   7.47 GB

Can you please help?

it's silly reason to move to other distro's for this simple problem 


if you hav net connection tri sudo apt-get install thunderbird from 
terminal or from synaptic package manager search for thunderbird

or go to thunderbird website download linux version of thundirbird 
orrr

wine (emulator) is one more option to run ur windows thunderbird in 
linux.

ohh i forgot if u removed ubuntu from ur machine thn none of this will 
work :)

There is a mail client installed by default in Ubuntu or any other
Gnome-based distro. It's called Evolution.

I think you need to learn which software can do what in Linux. Linux
and Windows are very different OS. Don't expect all your windows
program have their counter-parts on Linux, although most of them are.
I bet when you first used your windows you did not know you can
install Thunderbird in your windows.

Boot your PC from it. If you have internet connection, go to Terminal, and
type yum install thunderbird . You are done. If you want to do this using

Yeah I understand how does it feel wasting weekends. feeling sorry for that
:)

Some of the main reasons to porting back to Linux is being aware of
"piracy", easier development and finally to "feel great". It is not
mandatory as long as you can afford something expensive (I assume you are
using Licensed Windows XP) and in that case - most Linux fans have no
problem if someone is satisfied with Windows over there.

But usually, for a First Time Tux, it would take longer than required. and
it's a one time effort. So after that you are almost ready to start your
journey. As Hasnain - also reported - it seriously dont take more than a
minute. So if you share what went wrong during the installation and why did
it take you so much time without saying "Thats It, I quit" - would be more
helpful for many of us.

And vice versa, many Linux/Mac/OtherOS user will find windows extremely
painful as well, when they are using it first time. There is always a short
learning curve for every technology. Dont give it up, feel the pain and
finally u wil find that it feels great.

And sriously, if you have a "Licensed Windows" with a Free Thunderbird
(Installation is almost same for both win and *nix) - or a "Licensed
Outlook" - there you go :)

You can buy a license of XP, it wont cost more than 110 USD - which is
pretty much affordable too

- sudo apt-get install thunderbird

I don't know how u guys do that, but just now I rebooted my system from Ubuntu 
8 to XP:-(. It simply wanted my time and energy from the morning, as I 
thought I will permanently shift to Ubuntu from WINDOWS. But it took me 7 hours 
to install a soft called "Thunderbird" and after installing also its not 
working. And from that experience, I am saying I m going to quit Ubuntu and get 
back to same old XP, at-least it will let me get my job 
done. Phew
