Public bug reported:

In ubuntu Feisty Amarok, rhytmbox, vlc, mplayer, audacity, xmms (i

When you get on, follow the Unsubscribe action on the left side of the
window.

Whenever you submit a bug-report to Launchpad.net, it assumes you want to
be kept informed of any related activity.

Apparently my bug was actually a duplicate of one that you submitted.

Sorry, but I was never given a chance to set the importance level to

[Bug 111563] Re: ntfs-3g i/o errors writing large audio files to usb hard drive

2007-05-09 Thread kubuntu
Szabolcs: the link you provided mentions that the patch was approved by Alex
Larsson and committed to trunk and
gnome-2-18 branch. I'm using Ubuntu Feisty, which uses GNOME 2.18, so it
seems that I should not need to apply the patch. Please advise if I'm correct
to think so.

Florent or Szabolcs: Also, since Florent stated that this is a
limitation of ntfs-3g, please let me know the max recommended hdd size
and the max recommended file size for transferring to ntfs volumes using
ntfs-3g. I thought leaving the default ntfs format on my new drive
would be a good idea so I can access the music, isos, etc., from M$win
at work, but maybe I'll need to use ext2ifs (no journaling support,
though) or set up a samba share on a running virtual machine when I need
those files. Xfs is supposed to be better for large audio files, etc,
anyway. But that would be extremely inconvenient, though.

Finally, I should point out that I never had ANY speed issues using the
plain old ntfs-3g driver in Edgy (sudo ntfs-3g /dev/sda1 ...). These
issues first occurred for me using ntfs-config / mount.ntfs-3g in
Feisty. In Edgy, I would move around large files, but only to
partitions of a 60GB or 80GB drive (not 500GB like now).

Cheers,
Todd

[Bug 113639] Re: suspend: gnome-power-manager vs. button/sleep

2007-05-09 Thread Christopher Hübner
In Bug #65730
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-power-manager/+bug/65730 I
found the solution for my problem. The gconf-key
/apps/gnome-power-manager/action_button_suspend was missing. I added that key
an set it to suspend (and removed the comments from /etc/acpi.sleep.sh).
As the suspend hat worked that way before, I'am wondering why this key was
missing. Changing the value to interactive changes also the behavior. Now the
SuspendButton works as expected.
But unfortunately not the PowerButton, which is also the only Button left in
the GUI of g-p-m. If I change the action for the PowerButton in the GUI the
values of the keys in gconf change too, but if I press the button nothing
happens. The event is caught by the acpid and /etc/acpi/powerbtn.sh is called,
as you can see below.

[Wed May 9 20:10:44 2007] received event button/power PWRF 0080 0008
[Wed May 9 20:10:44 2007] notifying client 12524[121:121]
[Wed May 9 20:10:44 2007] notifying client 4879[0:0]
[Wed May 9 20:10:44 2007] executing action /etc/acpi/powerbtn.sh
[Wed May 9 20:10:44 2007] BEGIN HANDLER MESSAGES
[Wed May 9 20:10:44 2007] END HANDLER MESSAGES
[Wed May 9 20:10:44 2007] action exited with status 0
[Wed May 9 20:10:44 2007] completed event button/power PWRF 0080 0008

I remeber that the SuspendButton was also available in the GUI. Why did
it disappear? And why does the PowerButton not work?

I attached the skript /etc/acpi/powerbth.sh

[Bug 113640] Re: printer randomly stops working

2007-05-09 Thread Ramon de Ruiter
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 35638 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/35638

I've looked for an UTP interface for the printer before to eliminate the
need of a running PC to print. That interface costs about as much as a
new printer so that's not an option. More importantly I can't recall
this weirdness before dist-upgrading to Feisty.

Current kernel:
Linux pc-desktop 2.6.20-15-generic #2 SMP Sun Apr 15 07:36:31 UTC 2007 i686
GNU/Linux

I'm quite sure this didn't occur when running
vmlinuz-2.6.17-10-generic/vmlinuz-2.6.17-11-generic on Edgy.
Do you suspect regression in the kernel?

[Bug 113671] NVIDIA restricted driver blocks wireless-pci NICs

2007-05-09 Thread Patrick Seher
Public bug reported:

A really strange bug, i found this bug on 2 different machine.

1.) Take a PC with an NVIDIA G-Force Card
2.) Plug in any PCI Wireless Network Card
3.) Boot Ubuntu, configure wlan(WEP), everything is ok
4.) enable the restricted NVIDIA Kernel driver.
5.) Reboot
6.) WLAN will stop working after few MBs are tranfered.
 - /etc/init.d/network reload doesnt help
 - every ping has a timeout
 - after a reboot, everything is fine for some minutes, or some transfered
MBs.
7.) With the open source NV driver, everything is allright, wlan works perfect!

Tested with this machines:
- Ubuntu 7.04, AMD X2 4200+, 1024MB, Via Chipset, G-Force 7800 GTS, Zyxel
AG-320 (ndiswrapper)

2007-05-09 Thread Keneo
I'm having the same problem
getting a 'adding char ' dialogue, with the current time in it

and only changes channel after pressing return.

at ached: command line output
(btw, I don't get sound either, that's why I'm having a lot's of audio

I have the same problem with an Epson Perfection V10. It works at 8 bit
color depth, 800 dpi, but anything higher (1200 dpi or 16 bit color
depth) will produce this message. I've seen it happening around an image
size of 350MB, while I have 2GB RAM (1.7 GB free).

[Bug 94304] Re: Dial-up modem in Network-Admin not functional in Feisty

2007-05-09 Thread Paul Helbert
Thanks GL Carpex,

I am able to keep going through Dapper (and even had Edgy working) and
will watch this in case someone comes up with a solution. If this turns
out to be a common problem, then I think its importance will rapidly
rise as the distro CD's begin to arrive in the mail to those of us who
live outside the high speed areas of the world. There will be a whole
lot of folks loading the CD and not being able to go any farther for
lack of internet connection. So this is a plug for assigning high
importance to this issue.

And I think the lack of communication once the dialup MODEM is on line
is probably a different problem from the one first reported and the
subject of this thread. Is there a discussion somewhere of this second
problem?

[Bug 113682] Upgrade Edgy-Feisty failed on samba_3.0.24-2ubuntu1_i386.deb

2007-05-09 Thread Arne Christensen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager

Kubuntu upgrade from 06.10 (Edgy) to 07.04 (Feisty) stopped while
Preparing samba (this was the status description in the main
installation window). A dialog popped up with the message:

Could not install '/var/cache/apt/archives/samba_3.0.24-2ubuntu1_i386.deb'
The upgrade aborts now. Please report this bug against the 'update-manager'
package and include the files
in /var/log/dist-upgrade/ in the bugreport.
subprocess new post-removal script returned error exit status 134

I could now click either Report bug or Close. I was reluctant to
start additional processing on a likely half-installed system and chose
Close.

Now the installation process CONTINUED! However it very quickly got
stuck (no progress for a long time). This time the status description
was Preparing to configure libadns1.

I took some screen dumps of all this before closing the window
forcefully and thus stopping the upgrade. Not surprisingly, the system
could not be stopped in the usual way, and couldn't later be started. I
had some Linux exercise while rolling in my backup on a separate
partition... This means I have the damaged system available if you need
further information.

I will attach the required files from /var/log/dist-upgrade in a second.

RE: [Bug 65802] Re: Operation not permitted:'/target/usr/share/doc/gaim-data' (on an USB drive)

2007-05-09 Thread Steve Farthing
I'm sorry, but it does not seem to fix the bug. I just tried installing it
again with ubuntu 6.06.1. Although I don't know if it uses the 'edgy'
installer. The same USB hard drive works great in Windows XP and VISTA, so
I doubt if it is the hard drive. It just seems that unbuntu won't install to
a USB drive. Also the same ubuntu install cd installs fine to a 10 year old
10 gb non-USB hard drive. So installing to a USB drive seems to be a
problem. I don't know if the installer is edgy, but I sure am! Should I
just give up on the USB install and you can just publish that ubuntu does
not support that option?

Thanks for your report. It's possible that this is due to a hard disk
problem, although it's hard to tell from these log messages:

Oct 12 19:12:23 ubuntu kernel: [17180855.336000] EXT2-fs error (device
sda3): ext2_new_block: Allocating block in system zone - block = 196610 Oct

19:14:05 ubuntu kernel: [17180957.276000] EXT2-fs error (device sda3):
ext2_new_block: Allocating block in system zone - block = 557058 Oct 12
19:15:14 ubuntu kernel: [17181026.336000] EXT2-fs error (device sda3):

19:15:49 ubuntu kernel: [17181060.54] init_special_inode: bogus i_mode
(400)

In any case, the Edgy installer (ubiquity 1.1.19 and newer) ignores this
particular error, as it really isn't important, so that fixes this bug.

[Bug 35638] Re: Hl-1050 is not detected properly

2007-05-09 Thread Stanley Sokolow
My 'uname -a' output for the 3 installations I've tried it on (Ubuntu 7.04,
Ubuntu 6.10, and OpenSUSE 10.2, respectively):
Linux Northgate-U704 2.6.20-15-generic #2 SMP Sun Apr 15 07:36:31 UTC 2007 i686
GNU/Linux
Linux Northgate-U610 2.6.17-10-generic #2 SMP Fri Oct 13 18:45:35 UTC 2006 i686
GNU/Linux
Linux Northgate-oS102 2.6.18.2-34-default #1 SMP Mon Nov 27 11:46:27 UTC 2006
i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

Here's more specific information. I tried each of the installations on
the same hardware other than swapping out the primary hard disk on which
Linux was installed as a clean installation, not an upgrade. It's a 2.2
GHz Celeron system with 512 MB of memory. Starting with the printer in
sleep mode, I ran a watch command with default 2 sec intervals on the
command 'lpinfo -v'. When I say that the printer was visible, I mean
that the appropriate line appears in the output of lpinfo showing
direct usb://Brother/HL-1440%20series. Invisible means the line
was missing.

On Ubuntu 7.04, the printer started visible and stayed visible for a
long time (15 minutes) at which time I pressed the wake-up button on the
printer. The printer went ready (its LED lit steadily) and was still
visible. 4 seconds later it went invisible, 6 seconds later visible, 19
seconds later invisible, and so on. Seemingly at random intervals,
ranging from a few seconds to 30 seconds, it changes from visible to
invisible and back to visible and so on. This was also true on Ubuntu
6.10 and OpenSUSE 10.2, with one difference: On SUSE, the sleeping
printer starts invisible, whereas on Ubuntu it starts visible. On all
three systems, unplugging, waiting about 10 seconds and replugging the
USB cable, or turning off the printer and back on again, causes the
printer to become visible but the cycling resumes at random intervals.
The cycling continues even when the printer goes back into sleep mode.

If it would help as a regression test, I can replace the Ubuntu 6.10 or
OpenSUSE 10.2 with a clean installation of earlier Linux releases and
test again. I have quite a few earlier releases from SUSE, Ubuntu,
