[Bug 164640] Re: Build Firefox 3 against a subpixel-patched cairo
There are numerous problems with system cairo 1.4.10 compared to patched mozilla cairo 1.5.2-55. 1st, system cairo has tons of fatal asserts, making firefox crash in different locations with ugly messages. Mozilla turned asserts non-fatal as they deal with errors they think important and ignore the rest. 2nd, mozilla fixed a number of issues (performance, glyphs, bad repaints, printing issues, etc), some (most?) merged into system 1.5.*. From a user perspective, system 1.4.10 will appear somewhat slower and will have more visual artifacts, not to mention that the associated bugs will not be supported by mozilla. You are requesting improvements for subpixel, yet the patch decreases overall quality for everyone. That's a 6+ months regression of mozilla improvements/bug fixes. It would be better to have that subpixel patch accepted upstream by cairo, or at least by mozilla. Or hardy could ship a patched 1.5.* (I don't know if it's even possible). -- Build Firefox 3 against a subpixel-patched cairo https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/164640 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 174425] compiz dead locks for dual monitor setup using ati driver 6.7.195
Public bug reported: When using compiz on a dual monitor setup I get a dead lock in the X server when my cursor moves past the outside of the smaller monitor. My setup is a LVDS 1920x1200 and an external LCD connected to the VGA port at 1680x1050. When I move outside of the 1680x1050 area the X server dead locks. My mistake. It should be higher priority then. 2007/12/6, dominik [EMAIL PROTECTED]: This bug is about saving what you can see on screen as .odt (not as .doc), this bug is not about parsing or reading a .docx file. [Bug 149849] Re: OpenOffice Writer can not convert some .docx files to .odt
To clarify my above comment: the behavior is I'm describing is that you may do some arbitrary amount of work (in my case, an hour or so) and then find that you can't save your document. The error message is pretty cryptic, so I had thought I was encountering a weird permissions issue and eventually gave up after trying a few different locations. I discovered too late that had I only saved it as a Microsoft Word document instead of an Open Office Document it works (say it ain't so! The MICROSOFT format works better?!). I have since set my default format to Word and have not encountered this bug again. The DocX import was flawless, by the way - I was mightily impressed. Anyway, I would humbly suggest that we indicate in the error message that one might try to save in a format OTHER than .ODT. -- OpenOffice Writer can not convert some .docx files to .odt https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/149849 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 120834] Re: intel gm965 freezes with 3d applications
Tommaso, Please note that the GM965 chipset has issues with Xv. This means that compiz-fusion is disabled by default on Ubuntu ( see: http://wiki.compiz-fusion.org/Hardware/Blacklist ) When you enable it anyhow you should be aware that this can cause some trouble. In most cases you can work around this. The most simple way is by using the 'gstreamer-properties' configuration tool (start from terminal) and select X Window System (No Xv) at the video tab - plugin selectbox. Now Totem video, rhythmbox visualisation etc. works again. I would like to note that on my system I can work with 3D apps. I have had some lockups with certain 3d screensavers but I can use my own 3D application. There are graphical glitches (I filed a bug report a couple of weeks ago here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver- xorg-video-intel/+bug/162206 ) but it is usable. Games like warsow (http://www.warsow.net) even work with this card on my notebook. I have an Acer Aspire 5315-052G12Mi and wrote a small howto for it on: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=610603 It includes some pointers to some compiz / video / webcam / wifi related issues. [Bug 174283] Re: rm does not preserve root by default
@Dr Small - I'm suggesting this change would be made in the default profile and bashrc files that ship with the standard Ubuntu release. This way: 1. novice users are protected by default 2. anyone who really wants to delete / can use --no-preserve-root attribute 3. people who prefer the default behavior can sudo and remove these lines or use .bashrc and .profile to override them Altering the binary so that it uses –preserve-root as the default choice would work fine too. Anyone wishing to delete / could still do: rm -rf --no-preserve-root / Sometimes more typing is a good thing - for example when you are about to wipe your root partition. @Luciano - note that Sun implemented this very feature in Solaris 10: http://blogs.sun.com/jbeck/date/20041001#rm_rf_protection I'm not saying we should follow Sun's example, but their choice to implement it shows that many people do think this is an issue. -- rm does not preserve root by default https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/174283 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 160642] Re: wireless doesn't work Lenovo T61 w/ Intel 4695AGN
I've installed Gutsy with all the upgrades. My wireless system does advertise its name (If I boot into WinXP on the same machine, I can see it and connect just fine). Thanks for taking this on! I'm a Linux newbie, but so far I'm having a good time :) One other (perhaps related?) issue is that when I plug a network cable directly into the ethernet port (eth0), I can connect to the net for a little while, but eventually it will fail (sometimes almost directly after I connect). I can do sudo ifdown eth0 and then sudo ifup eth0, but it fails again very soon afterwards. Again, this doesn't seem to be an issue when I boot WinXP. -Garth On Dec 5, 2007 9:24 AM, Brian Murray [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. [Bug 133666] Re: please patch linux-source-2.6.22 to fix ata_piix bug
I have an Athlon Classic 1200 with a SiS 5513 IDE driver. The 2.6.22 kernels in Gutsy and Hardy, and the 2.6.24 kernel in Hardy all show this problem by not recognizing my hard drive partitions on bootup -- causing a complete lock up early in the boot process. I have proven this is fixable in the 2.6.22 and 2.6.23 kernels by simply building the sis5513 module when recompiling the kernel. Perhaps there is some other more generally applicable code fix, but so far, none of the final release kernels for Gutsy have any such fix, and neither do the early versions of the Hardy kernels. I have been able to do a partial fix by adding 'ide-generic' and 'ide- disk' to /etc/initramfs-tools/modules and running update-initramfs. This has worked in both Gutsy and Hardy kernels -- but it has its problems. Most importantly, ide-generic completely cancels dma on all drives. So, while this will allow me to use xorg and KDE, it is not a true final solution. I have an active Gutsy partition, and now a Hardy partition (upgraded from Feisty this week). I would like to see this bug actively worked in Hardy to a point where I can actually use my hard drives *with* dma turned on. We've now chosen to leave Gutsy with a known major failure for everyone with SiS 5513 and Intel 82801 EB/ER IDE drivers. Can we please get this failure fixed in Hardy? (Hint: The sis5513 module still works -- but it has been marked as not to be compiled for the Gutsy and Hardy kernels. So, if we are mandating that the module cannot be allowed in the kernel, we need to look at what its doing in order to support these drivers.) Please keep us posted as new changes are put in place for this driver. [Bug 172776] Re: Clicking on DEL immediately send file to trash bin
1. Open gedit, have the file browser displayed in the side panel. 2. Edit any file. Let's say you want to delete a character but somewhat you decided to do it later after you check for some other files you have. 3. Click on any file in the file browser (so the keyboard focus is now on the selected file). Note that you set your Nautilus action preferences to double click, not single click, so clicking on the file simply focus the keyboard on the file, not opening it. 4. Drink come coffee. The idea is that your brain does not remember the details of what you were doing (sometimes it happens when you're my age, btw). All you have is a vague idea that you need to delete some character. 5. Go back to gedit. Your see the file you are editing, you remember that you wanted to delete the stupid character so you press the DEL button on your keyboard. 6. The file with the focus (the one in the file browser side panel which still has the keyboard focus) immediately goes to the trash bin, despite your preferences to have Nautilus ask you before you delete a file. You don't even realize that the file is gone because your eyes are on the character and you are busy wondering why is it that you pressed the DEL key and the stupid character is still there. -- Clicking on DEL immediately send file to trash bin https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/172776 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
