[Bug 129707] Re: Wish: Smooth progress bar progressing while booting
I think that I understand the point. I can reproduce that little *bug* on any computers. The first 20 seconds of the boot process, the usplash will show something like 5%, and then suddenly, it will go to 60%, and then 100% in the next 30 seconds. I was listening to my Hard drive , when running Ubuntu.I could hear the disk heads parking , but the disk itself doesn't spin down.It spins down -standby mode- when one runs 'hdparm -y /dev/sda'.It stayed in standby for quite a long time.Doesn't this seem a little odd ?I thought it was spinning down when the disk heads parked . -- High frequency of load/unload cycles on some hard disks may shorten lifetime https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/59695 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 139363] Re: [gutsy] Enter passphrase for LUKS/cryptsetup breaks usplash
This is probably due to the fact that usplash will only unlock the root partition. [Bug 59695] High frequency of load/unload cycles on some hard disks may shorten lifetime
So , the hard disk doesn't exactly go into suspend when the disk head is parked, so the kernel doesn't get to know that the disk head is parked(because standby=parking) - it interprets this as a sign that the hard disk is in Active/Idle mode.So it doesn't bother stopping data from being written to the disk - this will inevitably cause the head to unpark from the ramp. What do you guys think of this ?I think the problem is associated with the way in which the standby command is issued (by the kernel?).My disk never went to standby on laptop-mode , just a bunch of head parkings. .I used hdparm to find the mode of the HD.Hdparm doesn't wake up the disk from standby by state -in contrast to smartctl. -- High frequency of load/unload cycles on some hard disks may shorten lifetime https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/59695 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 154929] Re: Monitor Turns Off Instead Of Bootup Splash
Thanks for your bug report and for your contribution to ubuntu. The Status of the bug report was Fix Committed. That status should be used when a patch is sent to -proposed repositories. Concerning the vesafb part, the ubuntu choice to reject vesafb as a framebuffer driver was not based on nothing. vesafb can probably cause different issues that ubuntu expect to avoid to his final users and adding it will probably not fix the issue for everyone since the problem you describe can be caused by many different things. Also, AFAIK, vesafb is deprecated. I think that you may want to discuss of these matters with ubuntu developers. However, please don't use coarse words like stupid, this cannot lead to good community work, we need to respect the work of each other. Ubuntu code of conduct : http://www.ubuntu.com/community/conduct Maybe that you can help ubuntu developers to improve the actual situation if you're wiling to consider all aspects of the problem, and that is, that there is a incredibly high number of hardware part that ubuntu is expected to work with. [Bug 190129] Re: screen resolution reset at maximum resolution at login
This just started to happen to me too with the updates of 8th or 9th of february. The current wrong resolution after booting is 1900 x 1200 for both the login screen and the desktop. My monitor is a 21 CRT, for which 4:3 is the right aspect ratio. I normally use a resolution of 1400 x 1050 or 1600 x 1200, depending on what I do. The driver I use is NV. BTW, the resolution of the login screen also used to be correct in my system. At least when I used the Nvidia driver for a while ago, the resolution was the same for the login screen and the desktop. Yes, I didn't introduce them because I uploaded the respective versions of -base and -extra at the same time, and ignored the problem that it takes different time to enter testing. This is tangent to the bug at hand, but I think it doesn't really matter when those packages enters testing. My understanding is that when you uploaded those two packages at the the same time, the upgrade path in unstable is immediately broken. Although broken upgrade in unstable only is usually not a big problem. Norbert, is it possible to add proper Replaces for Debian's texlive- formats-extra package? Or is Ubuntu on its own here? If you prefer I can add a Replaces, but is it really useful now? It is only for the development version, right? No, Ubuntu 7.10 (gutsy) was released with texlive-base 2007-10. I think the problem here is that during upgrade, texlive-formats-extra is unpacked before texlive-latex-base is unpacked (this is possible because dependency is only required to be satified when configure happens, which is after unpacking). [Bug 140734] Re: Gutsy tribe 5 no splash or progress bar with LiveCD
On my i386 machine the usplash works fine, only on my 64bit it doesn't, though the ubuntu system that I put on a USB-stick works fine on the 64bit system so could there be something wrong with the 64bit build of usplash ? -- Gutsy tribe 5 no splash or progress bar with LiveCD https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/140734 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 190416] [NEW] [gutsy] liferea doesn't read feed://, doesn't work with firefox3
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: liferea Hi there, adding feeds to liferea using the firefox 3 beta 3 from gutsy-backports and the liferea-add-feed script doesn't work, apparently because firefox produces a feed:// address, whereas liferea needs an http:// one. I'm filing this bug to liferea because to me it seems logical that liferea should support feed:// addresses. To reproduce this bug: 1. Install firefox-3.0 from gutsy-backports 2. Install liferea 3. Subscribe to an rss-feed by clicking on the rss-icon in the address field 4. choose /usr/bin/liferea-add-feed as feed-reader 5. liferea gives a 404 because it stripped of the feed:// and replaced it with a file:/// Cheers, Hendrick ** Affects: liferea (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- [gutsy] liferea doesn't read feed://, doesn't work with firefox3 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/190416 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
