[Bug 200478] displayconfig-gtk is deprecated

2008-10-03 Thread Bryce Harrington
Thank you for reporting this bug and for your efforts to make
Ubuntu better. As Xorg has improved this past year, an unfortunate side
effect of these improvements is that it has rendered several design
assumptions in displayconfig-gtk obsolete. So, starting with Hardy we
are no longer putting displayconfig-gtk forth as a primary configuration
tool, and are putting our development focus into the Screen Resolution
applet. As a result, we do not plan to fix this bug and thus are closing
it.

[Bug 277406] Re: wacom pen not working by default

2008-10-03 Thread Mackenzie Morgan
Confirming since there was recent discussion about this on ubuntu-devel-
discuss.

To the reporter:
This can't be (fully) fixed with the current version of hal. There are
structural changes taking place to move things from xorg to hal. In the
meantime, it is possible to get semi-working support by modifying xorg.conf
following what was said here:
https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-devel-discuss/2008-September/005745.html

I'm going to subscribe Oliver, since he was working on fdi files for
different types of tablets and would know better what information is
needed to get semi-working support in hal.

[Bug 277338] Re: FFE: Please sync xmonad and xmonad-contrib 0.8-1 from Debian unstable

2008-10-03 Thread Pär Andersson
Oh, he seems to have uploaded it yesterday, when I had already started
putting this together. Of course we should sync xmonad-contrib 0.8-2
instead.

As -2 only makes this small change to the build options I don't think
there is any reason to believe that it will not compile/install/run in
Intrepid just as -1, but I can't verify this until I get home from work
tonight.

Thanks for the +1 :-)

[Bug 273899] Re: IBM thinkpad X200 use G45 and gma 4500 abnormal display 1280 x 800.

2008-10-03 Thread Kasper Johns
I can confirm this bug. Running Thinkpad X200 with Intel GMA X4500. For
some reason the Screen Resolution app seems to think that I have three
screens when I uncheck the mirror thingy.

As said above, when correct resolution (1280x800) is set, it draws the
right pixels and such, but the stretched area on the right-bottom side
has ugly artifacts with mostly black areas and a few colors.

Ubuntu beta 8.10 x86_64.

Re: [Bug 273633] Re: Network-Manager 0.7 is unable to use IWL3945 to connect to WPA-encrypted networks

2008-10-03 Thread Luke12
I would have thought it this way if the driver was completely
non-functional (as it was, see the other bug I was signaling). However,
the driver does function using wpa_supplicant from the command line, so
the bug is likely not in the driver or wpa_supplicant. Please refer also
to bug 209602 and the bugzilla entry
http://www.intellinuxwireless.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=1507

I am also attaching the output of lspci. I think the line you required
is this:

0b:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 3945ABG
Network Connection (rev 02)

Thanks for the attention.

Luke12, this looks like a bug in iwl3945 driver or wpasupplicant maybe.

On another front: what _wired_ chipset/driver are you using? NM spits
out 'NULL(info.linux.driver)' which usually means that the driver has a
 bug :)

Yes, quite sure. Anyway, here is a new dmesg output, lspci output and
uname output, using Ubuntu Hardy,

Thanks, hope it might be working in Intrepid...

2008/10/3 Leann Ogasawara [EMAIL PROTECTED]:
 Hi Guys,

@Joris, you mentioned you turned on the wireless switch after KDE had
finished loading. Are you sure you didn't disable wireless when you
flipped the switch as I first see in your dmesg output:

[ 57.823085] iwlagn: Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link AGN driver for Linux,

 But then see:

[ 80.889626] iwlagn: Radio disabled by HW RF Kill switch

@inflamestory, care to attach your full dmesg output? I'm also curious
if something like echo 0 /sys/class/rfkill/rfkill0/state would help
to toggle the state as a workaround for you?

 Thanks.

[Bug 277445] [NEW] Ubuntu freezes on load screen

2008-10-03 Thread danielbooy
Public bug reported:

Hello:

Tried to check around to see if this had already been reported, but I
wasn't able to find anything. My apologies if it's a repeat.

When I boot up 8.10 (now beta) via either Live CD or my installed
version, the orange progress bar will freeze after a few seconds (while
it's still in its back-and-forth stage). If left alone, it will be
stuck there forever, but I've found - oddly enough - that if I press
some keys on the keyboard, I can force it to move. When I stop
pressing keys, it stops moving, but if I hold down, say, the up arrow
for a lengthy enough period of time, the progress bar will finish its
back-and-forth motion and begin its actual progressive motion.

When it gets to this stage, it's fine; 8.10 will boot up just fine, and
I notice no other difficulties.

I've also recently noticed that I *cannot* run fsck on startup.
Normally, it will run automatically unless I tell it otherwise, but
since noticing this problem, I've also noticed that it skips the whole
check disk process automatically. Not sure if this is related or not.

Thanks!

[Bug 276945] Re: [intrepid] menu buttons don't work on main page

2008-10-03 Thread Charlie_Smotherman (porthose)
Tomas, thank you once again for your bug report.
I can confirm this bug.
This bug is due to the link not being created properly. dh_install
-Xprototype.js would also remove the directory prototype and not just the file
prototype.js. So changed dh_install to dh_install -xprototype this way the
directory and file named prototype are removed. Added to ampache.postinst code
to make the prototype directory and added the creation of the symlink to
prototype.js to ampache.postinst. Removed the prototype symlink from
debian/links. Added code to ampache.postrm to properly purge ampache. Still
not sure why 0ubuntu2 succeeded when I tested it. I have tested this fix on 3
different fresh installs of intrepid on my test computer, along with 2
ampache.org community members.

 Bug description:
In some circumstances it appears possible for the 2.6.27-rc kernels to
corrupt the NVRAM used by some Intel network parts to store data such as MAC
 addresses.
This is limited to the new e1000e driver, and reports have only appeared from
users of 82566 and 82567 based LAN parts (ich8 and ich9) (to quote Intel).
The reports seem to be isolated to laptops, but it is not clear if this is
because desktop/server parts are not vulnerable, or if use cases simply
increase the chances of laptop users being hit.

Once this corruption has occurred, recovery may be possible via a BIOS
update, but may well require replacement of the hardware. Use of Intel's
IABUTIL.EXE is strongly discouraged, as it will worsen the problem to the
point where the network part will no longer appear on the PCI bus.

(this is a new description, the original one was based on too much guesswork.
Below are the URLs originally referenced)
(the driver i blacklisted in Ubuntu for 2.6.27-rc in the latest releases, so
if your network is not working, it doesn't have to be damaged, but just
disabled in order to prevent any accidents until this bug is solved, don't
 wary!)

[Bug 277451] [NEW] Untranslated strings in 8.10 Beta installer

2008-10-03 Thread Timo Jyrinki
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

The following strings are untranslated in 8.10 Beta installer, and
unavailable for translation in Launchpad:

_Quit
Before
After
All of manual partitioning (bug #144741) - this was already fixed in 8.04.1,
but is again as broken as in 8.04
Log in automatically

Note that any import of strings to Launchpad has to probably be
discussed with Launchpad people, since the queue is so long that the
installer won't be translatable before NonLanguagePackTranslations
deadline on 16th of October without priorization.

[Bug 236663] Re: No easy way to mount pre-existing partitions after OS installed

2008-10-03 Thread saepia
I also confirm that it's annoing to have to open my data partition
before I run rhythmbox.

IMHO mount tool should have very simple interface, with steps like

1. Choose desired partition to mount (using some nice GUI, that shows
only known filesystems and maybe a bunch of data from each partition to
make it easy to recognize proper one?)

2. Choose desired mount name. (without specyfing any paths, creating
directories for mountpoints etc.!)

http://wiki.ubuntu-it.org/GruppoPromozione/ProgettoCDUbuntu.

Ciao!

Hello... Well, it comes to the Ubuntu bug list. Then, after review, it
can be submitted upstream to the actual package developers, in this
case, Mozilla. However, you will understand it is faster (and you are
more likely to be heard) if you submit your request directly to Mozilla
itself...

well i'd say it's a pretty weird bug :-)

Does this need to open a new LP bug?

I don't know how to reproduce the sync-to-vblank problem.

Wouldn't backporting all single fixes more harming than syncing with
current git? I am using the updated packages from
https://edge.launchpad.net/~tormodvolden/+archive and they appears to be
working fine.

[Bug 115011] Re: Ubuntu hangs on reboot on Dell 745

2008-10-03 Thread Philippe Seewer
This issue appears to be fixed in vanilla 2.6.26 with the following
patch

http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=commit;h=163ea310b68bdde89b1ac633fbf8c0db290d3f86

The fix sets the special reboot for all machines of Type Dell OptiPlex
745.

Roderick: Your Acer Aspire is another case and I suggest you file your
own Bug for that.
