Re: [Bug 321258] Re: segfault

On Fri, 2009-01-30 at 11:30 +, Richard Seguin wrote:

Well, yeah. There is definitely a memory leak in pidgin:

PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEMTIME+ COMMAND
31463 brian 20 0 971m 41m 20m S1 1.5 4:36.65 pidgin

My experience with valgrind however is that it dramatically slows down
applications -- to the point of unusability. Unfortunately, to that
effort, I use pidgin all day and I need it to be responsive.

I will give it a go, but I'm afraid I will not stick it out if it's
wy too slow.

Yeah. Tried it. Have been waiting literally minutes for the
application to even start but the windows have yet to even be painted
and I have a memcheck process consuming nearly 100% of a core here. I
cannot function like this all day.

Oh wait. OK. It finally came up. I let it run for a while. It was
very slow. One memcheck process ended up eating up 1GB of memory -- the
max I allow on my system here and got killed. And then unfortunately,
the command was started again, overwriting the valgrind.log.

I'm afraid this is an unworkable situation for me to try to be
productive in. Hopefully somebody else can oblige.

FWIW, my execution command line was:

$ G_SLICE=always-malloc G_DEBUG=gc-friendly  valgrind -v --tool=memcheck
--leak-check=full --num-callers=40 --log-file=valgrind.log pidgin

b.

2009-01-30 Thread Geert
Dear Michele,

I am not a Linux wizzard. I just tried out ubuntu and saw that it did not
work. I also have realized that, the essential material to gather
infromation lack, like with mozilla, where every bug gets its automatic
posting, and the program gathers info. I have not the knowledge, not the
time to gather all the info you need.

I am also reinstalling windows 2000 on my older hardware, as there are too
many things that work sometimes.

/dev/sda and /dev/sdb are made. Yet fdisk -l will list the partitions:

fdisk -l

Disk /dev/sda: 203.9 GB, 203928109056 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 24792 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Disk identifier: 0x0004f8de

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sda1 * 1 16 128488+ fd Linux raid autodetect
/dev/sda2 17 24792 199013220 fd Linux raid autodetect

Disk /dev/sdb: 203.9 GB, 203928109056 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 24792 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Disk identifier: 0x00056175

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sdb1 * 1 16 128488+ fd Linux raid autodetect
/dev/sdb2 17 24792 199013220 fd Linux raid autodetect
--snip fdisk output--

Manually creating the /dev/sdaX and /dev/sdbX with mknod does not help:

mdadm -Q /dev/sda1
mdadm: cannot open /dev/sda1: No such device or address
mdadm -Q /dev/sdb1
mdadm: cannot open /dev/sdb1: No such device or address

Interesting output from lshw where it says that both partitions are

[Bug 320798] Re: [jaunty regression] No sound with HDA intel

2009-01-30 Thread Noel J. Bergman
** Summary changed:

- [jaunty regression] No sound with HDA intel with 2.6.28-5 and later (worked
up through 2.6.28-4)
+ [jaunty regression] No sound with HDA intel

** Description changed:

Sound used to work with 8.04 and 8.10 (usually after unmuting a channel), but
I can't get jaunty alpha 3 to play any sound.
The hardware is a hp hdx9480 laptop with a Intel HDA chipset. (tIntel [HDA
Intel], device 0: STAC92xx Analog [STAC92xx Analog])

- [Also confirmed on Thinkpad T61p with Intel HDA. Rebooting with
- 2.6.28-4 or earlier restores sound. 2.6.28-5 and 2.6.28-6 are broken.]
+ [Also confirmed on Thinkpad T61p with Intel HDA. Used to work with
+ 2.6.28-3 and 2.6.28-4, even when broken in 2.6.28-5 and 2.6.28-6, but a
+ recent update have broke it there, too.]

I checked all channels with alsamixer and alsamixer -D hw:0 and I can't
  find any muted channel.

  Other information:

  s...@hape:~$ cat /proc/asound/cards
   0 [Intel ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel
HDA Intel at 0xec004000 irq 23

I tried to check whether sound works with aplay
/usr/share/sounds/alsa/Noise.wav. It reports no errors and the volume
bar in pavucontrol shows that music is playing.

[Bug 318290] Re: Thunar does not create or display font thumbnails

2009-01-30 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package thunar - 0.9.99.1-0ubuntu1

---
thunar (0.9.99.1-0ubuntu1) jaunty; urgency=low

  * Merge from Debian pkg-xfce UNRELEASED (r2643), remaining Ubuntu changes:
- debian/control:
  + use our Vcs-* fields.
  + build depends on gtk-doc-tools.
  + thunar-data: conflicts/replaces thunar-doc, libthunar-vfs-1-dev
(= 0.9.0-3ubuntu1).
- debian/patches:
+ 06_fix-menu-icons.patch: correctly displays themed icons even if there's
a dot in the middle of the filename (see Xfce #3614).
+ xubuntu-fix-desktop-files.patch: various fixes to desktop files:
. make thunar and thunar-bulk-rename appear under Accessories not System
. make destop-file-validate happy (remove 'Encoding' and 'Application;')
. add 'OnlyShowIn=XFCE;' to Thunar-folder-handler.desktop so that
GNOME defaults to Nautilus and not Thunar.
  * Bugs fixed by this new release:
- Querying Thunar /proc directory causes hang (LP: #162448)
- Thunar does not respond after second window is opened (LP: #163587)
- Thunar does not show if drive is mounted (LP: #181117)
- xfce desktop does not respect freedesktop desktop settings (LP: #220318)
- thunar swaps behavior of forward / back (next / previous) buttons
  (LP: #234217)
- Xubuntu 8.04 X64 Thunar randomly freezes - hidden files/tree view
  (LP: #293839)
- Opening multiple instances of thunar causes system freeze (LP: #317920)
  * debian/patches/02_fix-font-thumbnailer-desktop-file.patch: add missing keys
in the font thumbnailer's desktop file (LP: #318290).

[Bug 156541] Re: switching compiz viewports causes citrix ica client to be lost

2009-01-30 Thread jordo2323
I also receive this type of error in this situation. I am using the
current ICA client and latest intrepid fully updated as of 1/30/09.
Switching virtual desktops kills the ICA client visually, but processes
seem to continue to run to allow reconnection (which is quite annoying
when you think the ICA Client is dead).

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue

to reproduce this issue with Thunderbird 2.0.0.19. Specifically, the
following mailto: URIs all work as expected:

Sorry, I know this is probably awkward for you and not entirely what you
wanted. We're slightly stymied by release schedules here and the
difficulty of manually merging translations for 50+ packages. Although I
know it isn't perfect, it's really a lot more practical to let them flow
in naturally with everything else.

Re: [Bug 224105] Re: Thunderbird freezes on downloading mail

2009-01-30 Thread mschillhahn
Three separate physical servers (two accounts go to virtual servers on
the same host box). It doesn't seem to be related to a time out
issue, the error trapping seems to handle that fine.

The spell check bug isn't quite the same as reported there. I'm using
the English dictionary, it will sometimes hang when I click on the
replace button (doesn't seem to care which word is being replaced). It
will not reproduce as hard as I've tried g. It takes a forced quit to
recover.

The frequency of both problems has decreased drastically since the
original report, but still occur once in a blue moon.

Other than that, I'm a real happy camper g.

[Bug 323197] [NEW] Pidgin has resource leak

2009-01-30 Thread Reuben Firmin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pidgin

This seems to be an interaction between KDE4.X's sound system, Firefox
playing flash audio, and Pidgin. In any case it's pidgin that shows the
leak (and eventually wigs out) so I'm filing under pidgin

Over time (less than 24 hours) the number of open pipes (and open wav
sounds) will grow to 1024, leading to pidgin becoming unable to log
conversations or open URLs. At that point I restart pidgin and
everything is fine.

This isn't consistent; not every sound played results in an open file. And, it
isn't necessarily associated with flash audio; overnight it grew from 29 to 76
wavs open, without pandora playing - but, I haven't seen the leak start until
I've been playing flash audio at the same time that pidgin is open.

[Bug 322751] Re: Not mounting drives unsafely removed in windows is an annoying default

2009-01-30 Thread Szabolcs Szakacsits
Joseph: This is a long and complex story. I make it short. I've seen
many thousands related comments, suggestions, arguments in the last many
years but yours was the first one which had a good point (case 3).
Theoretically you're not right but practically you are: the damage was
already done when the user unsafely detached the drive.

The next release of the official NTFS-3G will mount all such problematic
volumes read-write by default. Thanks.

Regards,Szaka

[Bug 315684] Re: nautilus crashes while trying to mount NAS

2009-01-30 Thread dancer58
Samba and smbfs were updated yesterday (1/29/2009) from proposed and then I
could mount the storage folders
They mounted slow, sometimes had to try twice but they mounted and I could move
files
sambaVersion: 2:3.2.3-1ubuntu3.5
smbfsVersion: 2:3.2.3-1ubuntu3.5

Then comes today (1/30/2009)and Linux was updated (I mounted storage before I
did updates and they mounted)
Linux asus 2.6.27-11-generic #1 SMP Thu Jan 29 19:24:39 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux
now I get the error below (every time)

Unable to mount location
Failed to retrieve share list from server

Nothing in error log!!!

It worked for one day, there's hope

[Bug 312919] Re: Timed sleep cause full crash amd64

2009-01-30 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instuctions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be
dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch
nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on
the crash report you wish to submit.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 8357] Re: Allow to set DPI resolution

2009-01-30 Thread luke2760
I'd second that. This is a major usability concern. Especially since
I've turned up my dpi, and the monospace font size in firefox, and the
text in this box still clocks in at roughly 2 mm per line. I don't know
if maybe a more general 'provide general-purpose method to set minimum
font size based on screen size' bug might be needed. With older CRT
monitors this happens all the time.
