[Bug 352260] [NEW] Shouldn't hardcode mmcblk0

2009-03-31 Thread Loïc Minier
Public bug reported:

Hi

flash-kernel works on most platforms by looking at a static place with
all the MTD partitions: /proc/mtd; on imx51 it writes to SD card instead
of MTD, and that currently means hardcoding /dev/mmcblk0 which is a bit
crude.

flash-kernel should read a .conf to set this device; this would avoid
hardcoding in the script. This file should be written by the installer
via the udeb logic.

Bye

[Bug 347972] Re: Does not work with Shiretoko Web Browser (Firefox 3.1)

2009-03-31 Thread Micah Gersten
1. Problem is ubufox isn't compatible (Firefox plugins allow you to set a
compatability version)
2. Allow it to be installed in 3.1b3
3. 3.1b3 disables ubufox due to ubufox version number

firefox-3.1:
  Installed: 3.1~b3+build2+nobinonly-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 3.1~b3+build2+nobinonly-0ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 3.1~b3+build2+nobinonly-0ubuntu1 0

100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu jaunty (development branch)
Release:9.04
Codename:   jaunty

I'm not saying it won't work, I'm saying that it cannot be enabled without the
compatible version being raised to at least 3.1b3.

[Bug 330048] Re: /usr/bin/locale missing during upgrade

2009-03-31 Thread Martin Pitt
I just did an intrepid-jaunty upgrade, and I noticed that Can't exec
locale error in libc6's preinst as well, but the upgrade just went on,
and libc6 was correctly updated. It seems this depends on a particular
unpack order, so I need to play with this harder.

Neil, how did you do the upgrade, with update-manager or apt-get, or
aptitude? If you used update-manager, can you please attach the logs in

[Bug 123460] Re: Rhythmbox:Error while saving song information:Internal GStreamer problem

2009-03-31 Thread Per Ångström
I have found it! Look at the following lines from rb-metadata-dbus-
service.c:

#define ATTENTION_SPAN  30
...
electromagnetic_shotgun (gpointer data)
{
ServiceData *c = (ServiceData *)data;
GTime now = time(NULL);
int idle = now - c-last_active;

/* quit if we haven't done anything for a while */
if (idle  ATTENTION_SPAN) {
rb_debug (shutting down (%ds idle), idle);
g_main_loop_quit (c-loop);
}

return TRUE;
}
...
if (!svc.external)
g_timeout_add_seconds (ATTENTION_SPAN / 2, (GSourceFunc)
electromagnetic_shotgun, svc);

No wonder all lengthy operations are cut off after 15 seconds!

Another observation: It seems that metadata-change operations are
quicker and thus less error-prone when only a small collection is
loaded. This suggests that the metadata-change background operation is
hindered by Rhythmbox rescanning the collection while the operation is
in progress.

[Bug 352258] Re: Pidgin crashes often

2009-03-31 Thread Hew McLachlan
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.
If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 352269] [NEW] gnome-keyring-daemon stalls after upgrading to jaunty beta

2009-03-31 Thread Björn Röder
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-keyring

After upgrading to jaunty gnome-keyring-daemon wound not run. Trying to
save any passwords (e.g. mail-notification) it would say it could not
save any. When I followed the instructions in another forum saying one
should remove ~/.gnome2/keyrings folder and restart, it firstly went
well letting gnome-keyring-daemon come up again and save passwords.
After another update (uptodate version from ubuntu repositories) it,
however, started stalling again after I logged into my account. Now,
even the solution mentioned above does not work anymore.

Starting gnome-keyring-daemon from console shows the following error
message:

** Message: couldn't set environment variable in session: The name
org.gnome.SessionManager was not provided by any .service files
GNOME_KEYRING_SOCKET=/tmp/keyring-2cOEK8/socket
SSH_AUTH_SOCK=/tmp/keyring-2cOEK8/socket.ssh
GNOME_KEYRING_PID=5785

I started this bug report using apport ('ubuntu-bug gnome-keyring').
Hopefully, the report is attached to this entry.

[Bug 192009] Re: gnome panel has no way to specify on which screen it should appear

2009-03-31 Thread James Westby
Hi,

There is a patch in the upstream bug now that prefers LVDS outputs,
which should give a better experience for laptop users as their panel
will tend to stay on the laptop panel.

It's partly just a stopgap until you can select the primary output in the
capplet though.

Would that patch be suitable for Jaunty?

Thanks,

James

[Bug 295536] Re: cups-pdf fails bad status reported and no pdf created

2009-03-31 Thread Bruno MACADRE
Hi !

Like Eric says, it's a problem in the AppArmor configuration. His
workaround works well but it remove the protection over cups-pdf. Like
we see in the dmesg posted by marcobra it looks like a capabilities
problem for /usr/lib/cups/backend/cups-pdf :

---
[89144.961555] type=1503 audit(1226146931.033:19): operation=capable
name=dac_read_search pid=13513 profile=/usr/lib/cups/backend/cups-pdf
[89168.118889] type=1503 audit(1226146954.189:20): operation=capable
name=dac_override pid=13725 profile=/usr/lib/cups/backend/cups-pdf
---

If you don't want disable protection of cups-pdf in AppArmor, don't use
the flags=(complain).

Go to the /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.cupsd and in the
/usr/lib/cups/backend/cups-pdf section search for this lines :

  capability chown,
  capability fowner,
  capability fsetid,
  capability setgid,
  capability setuid,

after this lines you just need to add this two new lines :

  capability dac_override,
  capability dac_read_search,

It would be suficient. You juste need a /etc/init.d/apparmor reload and
cups-pdf would works well !!

Hope this helps, Bruno

PS : Sorry for my english ;-)

[Bug 323909] Re: xfce4-xfapplet-plugin uses nearly 100% of CPU

2009-03-31 Thread Achilleas.k
Exact same thing happened to me today. I had three instances of xfce4
-xfapplet-plugin visible in system monitor. Killing the two who used the
most CPU time did not affect any of the applets. CPU usage was near 100%
when they were running but dropped to normal after I killed the
processes.

I am using Ubuntu 8.10 (installed xubuntu desktop lately and running
xfce now) 64bit.

$ dpkg -l xfce4-panel

[Bug 345534] Re: Please add support for the imx51 ARM subarchitecture.

this is the snippet used in the initial builder script for the live

rework this bit into a proper patch.

[Bug 292159] Re: MASTER update-initramfs is disabled since running on a live CD but it is running from a flash drive.

2009-03-31 Thread Colin Watson
Thinking about it, a workaround would make much more sense in casper,
since that's still installed on the live filesystem, and fixing it there
rather than in initramfs-tools means that we don't risk breaking
normal installed systems.

2009-03-31 Thread Jean-Paul
Where, do you mean the -k argument to the modprobe command in the

Also, this is an interesting bit: While, at the moment, I still get a
FAIL from lirc at boottime, once I've logged in to a Gnome session, I
can now use my remote without restarting the lirc daemon (as opposed to
the situation I got at boottime).

sudo dpkg -i /path/to/the/downloaded/package

Find the UUID of your target device now

sudo blkid device path of the target device you noted down before

You are correct that running the updater fixed this problem, but I
actually read the release notes and did not think this bug had been
reported. The release notes say During the live session I wasn't
running a live session; I had installed and rebooted and was still
getting the problem. I think the release notes should be a bit clearer
on this one, and should probably include the defect number for those who
want more details.

[Bug 333783] Re: Inkscape doesn't export transparent elements correctly to eps or pdf

2009-03-31 Thread Tim Holy
This is still a problem in the Kubuntu Jaunty beta even on i386. Note
this used to work in one of the earlier releases (Hardy? it was a
version that _didn't_ use Cairo for PDF export, no version using Cairo
has worked properly), and I routinely SSH my files to a machine running
an older Kubuntu release when I generate PDFs in inkscape.

EPS doesn't support transparency, so you don't expect it to work there.
But PDF 1.4 does, and so this should work.

Furthermore, the expected failure mode would be to make the object
opaque, but instead the object is simply missing from the PDF. Another
example (rendered from Jaunty) is attached, including the SVG file.

For me this is easily the #1 problem with Inkscape in Kubuntu. From some
googling around I did a while ago, it seems to work properly for users
of other distributions, however.

[Bug 352288] [NEW] New logout-restart-shutdown dialogs aren't modal windows

2009-03-31 Thread Ricardo Pérez López
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: fast-user-switch-applet

The new logout-restart-shutdown dialogs in Jaunty aren't modal windows.
IMHO, this is a lack of consistent, because all the previous dialogs
from previous Ubuntu releases were modal dialogs.

Another lack of consistence is about the window decorators. The actual
dialogs has decorators (title bar, etc.) unlike the dialogs in the
previous Ubuntu releases.

I propose to convert the dialogs into modal ones and remove the window
decorators.
