[Bug 554718] Re: [MASTER] package policykit-1 0.96-1 failed to install/upgrade: start-stop-daemon: nothing in /proc - not mounted? when system is run from external card
I experienced what I believe to be this same problem on my desktop machine. My desktop machine is not running on an external card, but it is running on a RAID controller which Ubuntu seems to think is 'removable.' In any event, I have been able to replicate this problem by installing 9.10 on a USB flash drive and then upgrading it to 10.04. After a significant amount of troubleshooting, I have found that things appear to go wrong during the postinstall of the 'udisks' package. Running this line ('udevadm trigger --subsystem-match=block --action=change') in udisks.postinst results in empty /proc and /sys filesystems. Thus, the failure of policykit-1 to install is just a symptom of /proc being empty. I'm still not sure whether this is a bug in udisks or possibly udev, but I guess I'll reassign it to udisks for now. ** Package changed: policykit-1 (Ubuntu) = udisks (Ubuntu) -- [MASTER] package policykit-1 0.96-1 failed to install/upgrade: start-stop-daemon: nothing in /proc - not mounted? when system is run from external card https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/554718 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 549801] Re: USB WiFi adapter with rt2870 chipset won't connect
I was actually surprised when the wireless usb adapter began to work. I was running 9.1, and after a first (fatal) install of 10.04 I am running ubuntu again. The currently trouble with the wireless devices seems to be purely related to WPA and WPA2. I was already broadcasting AES only, and am still receiving the authentication prompt instead of being logged onto the network. I am able to post, because I am also able to authenticate to a network which uses WEP. My wireless info: lsusb | grep rt Bus 002 Device 002: ID 13b1:0020 Linksys WUSB54GC 802.11g Adapter [ralink rt73] Which suggests that the bug is not only related to the rt2870 chipset. I would like to find a workaround, and see the issue solved soon, since so far the rest of the release is pretty cool. -- USB WiFi adapter with rt2870 chipset won't connect https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/549801 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 532374] Re: Lenovo Thinkpads with Core i5 and i7 suspend/resume (with kernel oops) once then fail horribly on next suspend
i have a t410 and of course suffer from this bug like everyone else. i appear to have BIOS version 1.09: $ sudo dmidecode -s bios-version 6IET49WW (1.09 ) i would like to update to the newest bios but i'm a little terrified to do so -- can anyone out there give or point me to a reliable and complete set of instructions as to what I ought to do to make this work? Thank you so much, also: will i have to update to 2.6.34, as suggested in some postings, or will that workaround no longer be necessary after the bios update? [Bug 596596] [NEW] Battery meter is erratic
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager I'm using 10.4 LTS Netbook Edition on a Gateway LT2104U netbook. Occasionally, and seemingly without reason, the battery meter suddenly reads 1.0 percent left and the message appears that the system is going to hibernate right now (and quickly does so). This happens regardless of how full the battery actually is (it's happened with a fully charged battery, and with a half-charged battery). It appears to happen only on battery power and not when plugged in to AC power. When this happens, I can immediately turn the system back on and use it normally. Since this seems to happen completely at random, I cannot provide specific steps to reproduce it. ** Affects: gnome-power-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Battery meter is erratic https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/596596 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures At a minimum, we need: 1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem, 2. the behavior you expected, and 3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). [Bug 591001] Re: CVE-2010-1297: Security Advisory for Flash Player, Adobe Reader and Acrobat
I was getting Firefox crashes with the Hardy update version, 9.0.277.0, so I'd say there is still a problem with the CVE fix on Hardy that needs to be addressed. I don't know how to gather data to diagnose the crash or if anyone is willing to work on it. To try 10.1, I didn't have the partner repository mentioned previously, despite the claim the Hardy Release Notes that it should have been added during an upgrade: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardyReleaseNotes#Commercial/partner%20repository I have upgraded this system automatically, all the way from Breezy. I added the partner repository using Synaptic: Settings - Repositories - Third-Party Software - Add. Enter the APT line from the above web page, click on Add Source, then click Close. If a warning dialog pops up, click Close. Click the Reload button. Search for adobe and install the adobe-flashplugin package. This currently gets you adobe-flashplayer version 10.1.53.64-1, which is the same as you would find at: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ It hasn't crashed, so far, and it supports those sites that require Flash 10+. -- CVE-2010-1297: Security Advisory for Flash Player, Adobe Reader and Acrobat https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/591001 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I've never tried to put one into my computer (well, at least not for years). Does the audio CD need to be mounted? (I really don't know, but I remember Felicia saying somewhere in these discussions that the media player plays fine without having the disk mounted) Is there actually a difference for you regarding automounting depending on whether you use audio or data CDs?
