[Bug 537472] Re: upgrade from hardy to lucid fails

2010-06-20 Thread TJ
This is a bug in the preinst script of the Lucid package. It
specifically calls /usr/bin/db4.7_upgrade but the DB environment is 4.8.

You can work-around the problem for the upgrade by temporarily
redirecting /usr/bin/db4.7_upgrade to db4.8_upgrade:

sudo -i
cd /usr/bin
mv db4.7_upgrade db4.7_upgrade.real
ln -s db4.8_upgrade db4.7_upgrade

apt-get install postgrey

mv db4.7_upgrade.real db4.7_upgrade

[Bug 554718] Re: [MASTER] package policykit-1 0.96-1 failed to install/upgrade: start-stop-daemon: nothing in /proc - not mounted? when system is run from external card

2010-06-20 Thread Scott Talbert
I experienced what I believe to be this same problem on my desktop
machine. My desktop machine is not running on an external card, but it
is running on a RAID controller which Ubuntu seems to think is
'removable.'

In any event, I have been able to replicate this problem by installing
9.10 on a USB flash drive and then upgrading it to 10.04. After a
significant amount of troubleshooting, I have found that things appear
to go wrong during the postinstall of the 'udisks' package. Running
this line ('udevadm trigger --subsystem-match=block --action=change') in
udisks.postinst results in empty /proc and /sys filesystems. Thus, the
failure of policykit-1 to install is just a symptom of /proc being
empty.

I'm still not sure whether this is a bug in udisks or possibly udev, but
I guess I'll reassign it to udisks for now.

[Bug 250206] Re: k3b after burning a DVD the drive fails to respond

2010-06-20 Thread Rohan Garg
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all
reported bugs in a timely manner.
There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and
your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a
lot if you could test the current Ubuntu development version (10.10). If you
can test it, and it is still an issue, we would appreciate if you could upload
updated logs by running apport-collect bug #, and any other logs that are
relevant for this particular issue.

[Bug 596589] [NEW] Please backport to Ubuntu 10.04 amd64

2010-06-20 Thread Christian Wolf
Public bug reported:

Very useful program for planing your home. It does, however, not run
from Ubuntu 10.04 in the web start edition as it seems to be
incompatible with the IcedTea/OpenJDK Java version that comes with
Ubuntu standard repositories.

A package is needed, and it the works (thank you!), as I see, but
currently only for i386 and only for Maverick. As Lucid is a LTS, it
would be great to have it backported, too.

Thanks a lot.

[Bug 549801] Re: USB WiFi adapter with rt2870 chipset won't connect

2010-06-20 Thread johnmay
I was actually surprised when the wireless usb adapter began to work. I
was running 9.1, and after a first (fatal) install of 10.04 I am running
ubuntu again. The currently trouble with the wireless devices seems to
be purely related to WPA and WPA2. I was already broadcasting AES only,
and am still receiving the authentication prompt instead of being logged
onto the network.

I am able to post, because I am also able to authenticate to a network which
uses WEP.
My wireless info: lsusb | grep rt
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 13b1:0020 Linksys WUSB54GC 802.11g Adapter [ralink rt73]

Which suggests that the bug is not only related to the rt2870 chipset.

I would like to find a workaround, and see the issue solved soon, since
so far the rest of the release is pretty cool.

[Bug 432857] Re: [KARMIC] USB storage not auto mounting on Acer Aspire One

2010-06-20 Thread Dragoneyes
I have the same problem with an Acer Extensa 5220, on Ubuntu 10.04
Plugging-in an external stick :
~$ dmesg

[ 248.916064] usb 2-1: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 2
[ 249.051384] usb 2-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice

So, the external drive is recognized, but nothing were mounted.

Sometimes work the following commands (but not always):
sudo stop udev
sudo start udev
and reinstalling udev does not solve the problem.

As suggested by Jeremy Foshee, I'm going to mark as new this bug.

[Bug 596591] [NEW] Merge maxima 5.21.1-1 (universe) from Debian testing (main)

2010-06-20 Thread Stefano Rivera
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: maxima

Please merge maxima 5.21.1-1 (universe) from Debian testing (main)

Dropped patch:
* Use .shtml instead of .html to fix lintian errors.
I see no such lintian errors. doc-base files seem correct.
(Most shtml files are renamed to html during build)

Everything else seems sane (although I don't know emacs at all and can't
verify). Forwarding to Debian.

New changelog entries:

maxima (5.21.1-1ubuntu1) maverick; urgency=low

  * Merge from Debian testing (LP: #FIXME), remaining changes:
- debian/maxima-emacs.emacsen-install:
+ Install symlinks for source files rather than copying them. This
makes find-function work.
+ Install symlink for *.lisp so that we don't need to add
/usr/share/emacs/site-lisp/maxima to load-path.
- debian/maxima-emacs.emacsen-startup:
+ Remove use of /usr/share/emacs/site-lisp/maxima, since this
causes load-path shadows and is not needed anymore.
- Comment out backward-delete-char-untabify in maxima.el.

[Bug 596594] [NEW] package nvidia-current 195.36.24-0ubuntu1~10.04 failed to install/upgrade: nvidia-current kernel module failed to build

2010-06-20 Thread Tasche
Public bug reported:

Fresh Install. Everything is clean.
All new hardware, everything is clean.

10.04 = problem - X server will not shut down among other issues I
believe.

9.04 = No problems like this.

I cannot even manually install the drivers in 10.04 (or any distro based
upon Ubuntu 10.04) because I cannot manually shut down X server - the
commands apparently changed going into 10.04 with no luck finding what
they changed to via Google. - among other hurdles.

[Bug 532374] Re: Lenovo Thinkpads with Core i5 and i7 suspend/resume (with kernel oops) once then fail horribly on next suspend

2010-06-20 Thread Matt Price
i have a t410 and of course suffer from this bug like everyone else. i appear
to have BIOS version 1.09:
$ sudo dmidecode -s bios-version
6IET49WW (1.09 )

i would like to update to the newest bios but i'm a little terrified to
do so -- can anyone out there give or point me to a reliable and
complete set of instructions as to what I ought to do to make this work?
Thank you so much,

also: will i have to update to 2.6.34, as suggested in some postings, or will
that workaround no longer be necessary after the bios update? Thanks,
matt

[Bug 596596] [NEW] Battery meter is erratic

2010-06-20 Thread Rich Barfoot
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

I'm using 10.4 LTS Netbook Edition on a Gateway LT2104U netbook.
Occasionally, and seemingly without reason, the battery meter suddenly
reads 1.0 percent left and the message appears that the system is going
to hibernate right now (and quickly does so). This happens regardless of
how full the battery actually is (it's happened with a fully charged
battery, and with a half-charged battery). It appears to happen only on
battery power and not when plugged in to AC power. When this happens, I
can immediately turn the system back on and use it normally. Since this
seems to happen completely at random, I cannot provide specific steps to
reproduce it.

[Bug 596553] Re: MUSIC

2010-06-20 Thread Ben Bromley
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Thanks!

[Bug 591001] Re: CVE-2010-1297: Security Advisory for Flash Player, Adobe Reader and Acrobat

2010-06-20 Thread Hans Ridder
I was getting Firefox crashes with the Hardy update version, 9.0.277.0,
so I'd say there is still a problem with the CVE fix on Hardy that needs
to be addressed. I don't know how to gather data to diagnose the crash
or if anyone is willing to work on it.

To try 10.1, I didn't have the partner repository mentioned previously,
despite the claim the Hardy Release Notes that it should have been added
during an upgrade:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardyReleaseNotes#Commercial/partner%20repository

I have upgraded this system automatically, all the way from Breezy.

I added the partner repository using Synaptic: Settings - Repositories
- Third-Party Software - Add. Enter the APT line from the above web
page, click on Add Source, then click Close. If a warning dialog pops
up, click Close. Click the Reload button. Search for adobe and install
the adobe-flashplugin package.

This currently gets you adobe-flashplayer version 10.1.53.64-1, which is
the same as you would find at:

http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

It hasn't crashed, so far, and it supports those sites that require
Flash 10+.

[Bug 584052] Re: Internal ATAPI CD/DVD drives will not automount in Lucid PowerPC

2010-06-20 Thread Uwe Geuder
 ... dvdisaster ...
. This is pretty unwieldy and while it might work on an emergency basis,

Absolutely. This was just intended to be a work-around so you can access
your data because you wrote...

I think this is now worse. Now I can't even mount the drive from the
command line:

... and I understood you are now in trouble to access your data.

it reads data CDs but not audio CDs

Ah, audio CDs. I've never tried to put one into my computer (well, at least not
for years).
Does the audio CD need to be mounted? (I really don't know, but I remember
Felicia saying
somewhere in these discussions that the media player plays fine without having
the disk mounted)

Is there actually a difference for you regarding automounting depending
on whether you use audio or data CDs?

(I can also try i i386, but at this moment I don't have a CD-drive
handy.)
