[Bug 628087] Re: Maverick ubiquity lacks option to change computer name

2010-09-07 Thread Evan Dandrea
I'll let Michael or someone from the design team speak on why this
should not be exposed in the user interface. That said, with guidance
from the design team, we've taken great pains to remove dialogs,
especially the advanced dialog, from the installer. If we are to at
some point add the hostname input box back, I'd prefer it stay on the
user setup page.

So everyone is clear on the current behavior, instead of asking for a
hostname, the installer automatically generates one. It does this by
taking the username, removing any non-alphanumeric character from it,
and appending -laptop or -desktop, depending on the output of
laptop-detect.

Advanced users can still set their own hostname by putting
netcfg/get_hostname=ubuntupad on the live CD's kernel command line. To
do this, press a key when you see the keyboard = accessibility options
image, then select a language, press F6, followed by escape.

I submitted new bug report as Bug #632238.

Anyway, I can confirm this bug was fixed with ./autogen make which is

[Bug 556293] Re: sudo does not keep http_proxy environment variable

2010-09-07 Thread Wolverine
This is very annoying. I have modified cntlm proxy to work with basic
auth. And everything was working fine till this bug appeared. I do no su
ever. So exporting my variables with sudo worked okay. And when I tried
to do an apt-get it just failed to resolve the host names. I started
debugging my local proxy when I realized that apt-get does not send any
requests to it at all.

Why in the name of )==() does this pass through unnoticed? If the
solution is as simple as Geraldo comments, I suggest it is released in a
patch pretty soon. Atleast all the proxy environment variables should be
saved.

My work around for the solution was to explicitly add a proxy line in
apt.conf. But now I need to remove it everytime I get out from behind
the proxy and start using direct connections.

Hope this gets fixed soon.

[Bug 463858] Re: No ath5k support on PowerPC in karmic

2010-09-07 Thread Adam Conrad
I would appreciate it if triagers would read the bug report before
asking for logs and testing upstream kernels and marking things
incomplete.

The subject really did define the entire bug, as it also did for the
person who reported the same bug in lucid (which was closed as
incomplete).

Submitting logs and testing upstream kernels doesn't magically turn on
building the ath5k driver in the Ubuntu PowerPC kernel config, which was
all this bug was asking for.

2010-09-07 Thread Tebibyte
Login into Ubuntu netbook remix 10.04 with compiz --replace , emerald

1) CPU overload ... most possible from gcond2
2) hard drive constantly buzy/ in use even when machine is innactive
3) performance issues (slow)

killall metacity does not work for me,

Thinking it is metacity related I installed _xfce4_

Booting into an xfce4 session with compiz --replace , emerald --replace and

specifically
1)gconfd2 does not appear when i run top

[Bug 631548] Re: bluetooth-properties crashed with signal 5 in g_object_newv()

2010-09-07 Thread auxbuss
After leaving the machine switched off over night, I can now, at least,
load bluetooth-properties.

However, the panel icon is still missing. I've tried restarting the
gnome panel a few times, but that doesn't improve things. Each time I
restart the panel I get the following msg in ~/.xsession-errors:

  ** (bluetooth-properties:4197): WARNING **: Could not open RFKILL
control device, please verify your installation

I can successfully pair with a device.

[Bug 632251] [NEW] Okular does not display properly images with ProPhoto RGB color space

2010-09-07 Thread Eric Fournie
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: okular

Images using the ProPhoto RGB color space (or Kodak ProPhoto RGB) are not
displayed properly in okular. Noticeable effects are blue surfaces displayed
purple and other color shifts.
For an exemple, see the test picture attached. In okular, the sky is purple.
Using geeqie or firefox to view the image, the sky is blue and the colors are
more saturated.
I don't know if this issue is a problem with okular or with a library used by
okular.

[Bug 516023] Re: Critcally low shown on unplug at 100% full

2010-09-07 Thread Karel Zengdurf
If g-p-m would just perform even a slight filter for extreme outliers in
its data, this would be solved. I have a Medion Akoya (MSI Wind
rebrand), and yes whenever I unplug (even after fully charging),
apparently the battery reports an extreme power surge (not even sure if
it's real, it could also just be a glitch).

Not only does this trigger notifications that the battery is almost
empty when it's clearly not, it also throws off the scale of the graphs
in the power-statistics window, and the discharge profile has a bunch of
erroneous peaks in it.

Filtering them out would be fairly trivial. My normal power consumption
seems to hover between 10W and 14W, while the typical peak values
generated on unplugging the cable always is in the range of 710-720W. I
don't think there are any normal circumstances under which a battery
should/would report such a huge leap in power usage, not even when it's
near the end of its lifetime and almost immediately dies.

BTW in a related question, does anyone know where g-p-m stores its
charge profile and discharge profile data? I looked for it in
several places, without luck. I want to see and try if I can manually
remove the huge peak values that are in the discharge profile, because
right now it looks like a flat line with two or three peaks towering out
of it (because of the scaling of the peaks).

[Bug 501923] Re: ENE CIR Receiver chip don't work

2010-09-07 Thread Maxim Levitsky
This is attempt to give (copy me) instructions on how to install the
driver.

First remove the existing lirc drivers:
$ rm
/lib/modules/2.6.32-24-generic/kernel/ubuntu/lirc/lirc_ene0100/lirc_ene0100.ko
$ rm /lib/modules/2.6.32-24-generic/kernel/ubuntu/lirc/lirc_ene0100/lirc_dev.ko

Now update the driver cache:
$ sudo depmod -a

now verify that lirc drivers don't exist:

$ modinfo lirc_ene0100
ERROR: modinfo: could not find module lirc_ene0100
$ modinfo lirc_dev
ERROR: modinfo: could not find module lirc_dev

Now you download it:
$ git clone git://gitorious.org/ene-cir/ene-cir.git

You didn't noticed that, but that creates a folder with name ene-cir
Therefore you need to enter it:
$ cd ene-cir/

Now compile it
$ make

Install:

$ sudo make install

Load the driver:
$ ./misc/ene_test
ENE driver reloaded

Now your remote should work. no need to start lirc.

If you want to use lirc yet, copy the
./misc/70-disable-ir-decoding.rules to /etc/udev/rules.d/

$ sudo cp ./misc/70-disable-ir-decoding.rules /etc/udev/rules.d/

Then exectute the ene_test again, and verify that only lirc installed.
In other words this:

$ ./misc/ene_test
ENE driver reloaded

$ cat /sys/class/rc/rc0/protocols
rc-5 nec rc-6 jvc sony [lirc]

[Bug 631619] Re: Authentication dialog doesn't make sense when purchasing

2010-09-07 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
That wording would be a *little* better for this situation, because it
refers to installing at all -- but new sources would still be a bit of
a non-sequitur. And I think it would be worse for the case where you are
making changes in Software Sources, because it would suggest that you're
about to accidentally install new stuff when you aren't.

I wish this could be fixed with just a wording change, but I don't think
it can be.

[Bug 626723] Re: Pressing enter at GDM screen crashes X

2010-09-07 Thread Bilal Akhtar
Nope, my PPA hack didn't work. This was using the same process that
fixed the problem in Lucid, that is, prevent plymouth from setting the
terminal to unbuffered input. Since the lucid fix had done most of it, I
disabled the remaining calls, but it didn't fix it. I suppose the
problem is different this time.

[Bug 553646] Re: Waking from hibernate unexpectedly prompts for password

2010-09-07 Thread Stuart Gillies
Not only do I not use a password to log on, I also have the screensaver
set to not require a password when interrupted. So it is odd that power
management requires one when resuming. To me it seems that the
screensaver setting and the logon setting should be one and the same and
should match the PM resume behaviour as well. Either you need a
password to use the machine (non-su), or you don't! Then there is the
keyring password to consider ...

[Bug 605577] Re: Help contents title bar shows cubes with numbers instead of a proper title

2010-09-07 Thread David Planella
Here's what happens:

In an English system, the English language pack installs the following
translation catalogs for yelp:

/usr/share/locale-langpack/en/LC_MESSAGES/yelp.mo
/usr/share/locale-langpack/e...@shaw/LC_MESSAGES/yelp.mo
/usr/share/locale-langpack/en_AU/LC_MESSAGES/yelp.mo
/usr/share/locale-langpack/en_CA/LC_MESSAGES/yelp.mo
/usr/share/locale-langpack/en_GB/LC_MESSAGES/yelp.mo

They correspond to each one of the variants for which there are
translations. However, /usr/share/locale-langpack/en/LC_MESSAGES/yelp.mo
should not exist, since that corresponds to the POSIX (C, or US English)
locale, in which all applications are written - and therefore no
translations are needed.

The 'en' translation is being created from the 'e...@shaw' one, and that's
because the translation tarball exported from Launchpad to create the
latest full language pack on 2010-08-17 [1] contains the yelp e...@shaw
translation in the en/LC_MESSAGES folder. I'm not sure why, but perhaps
because of the recent changes with @ locales in Launchpad?

I'm adding a task for Launchpad Translations.

Thanks Dennis for pointing to the cause of the problem.

[Bug 629622] Re: MIR+FFE: Inclusion of Ubuntu Font Family ~0.7 in Maverick (10.10)

2010-09-07 Thread Alan Bell
Mandarin chinese takes *ages* to install the font (I thought it had
crashed) however it did eventually install and here it is, again no
issue caused directly by the new font as default. As an aside note, I
was a bit disappointed in the extent of the translations of the desktop,
I thought it would be a real challenge testing this, but it would be
barely inconvenient for me to use any of those languages full time there
is so much English on the screen!

[Bug 614895] Re: audex crashes when setting up new encoding profile

2010-09-07 Thread Andreas Arning
Had the same problem: crash when trying to create a new profile or when
searching for codes (Kubuntu 10.04.1).
Deleting ~/.kde/share/config/audexrc helps. Suddenly I have a lot of predefined
profiles available, that weren't there before.
