[Bug 628087] Re: Maverick ubiquity lacks option to change computer name
I'll let Michael or someone from the design team speak on why this should not be exposed in the user interface. That said, with guidance from the design team, we've taken great pains to remove dialogs, especially the advanced dialog, from the installer. If we are to at some point add the hostname input box back, I'd prefer it stay on the user setup page. So everyone is clear on the current behavior, instead of asking for a hostname, the installer automatically generates one. It does this by taking the username, removing any non-alphanumeric character from it, and appending -laptop or -desktop, depending on the output of laptop-detect. Advanced users can still set their own hostname by putting netcfg/get_hostname=ubuntupad on the live CD's kernel command line. To do this, press a key when you see the keyboard = accessibility options image, then select a language, press F6, followed by escape. -- Maverick ubiquity lacks option to change computer name https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/628087 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 556293] Re: sudo does not keep http_proxy environment variable
This is very annoying. I have modified cntlm proxy to work with basic auth. And everything was working fine till this bug appeared. I do no su ever. So exporting my variables with sudo worked okay. And when I tried to do an apt-get it just failed to resolve the host names. I started debugging my local proxy when I realized that apt-get does not send any requests to it at all. Why in the name of )==() does this pass through unnoticed? If the solution is as simple as Geraldo comments, I suggest it is released in a patch pretty soon. Atleast all the proxy environment variables should be saved. My work around for the solution was to explicitly add a proxy line in apt.conf. But now I need to remove it everytime I get out from behind the proxy and start using direct connections. [Bug 463858] Re: No ath5k support on PowerPC in karmic
I would appreciate it if triagers would read the bug report before asking for logs and testing upstream kernels and marking things incomplete. The subject really did define the entire bug, as it also did for the person who reported the same bug in lucid (which was closed as incomplete). [Bug 516023] Re: Critcally low shown on unplug at 100% full
If g-p-m would just perform even a slight filter for extreme outliers in its data, this would be solved. I have a Medion Akoya (MSI Wind rebrand), and yes whenever I unplug (even after fully charging), apparently the battery reports an extreme power surge (not even sure if it's real, it could also just be a glitch). Not only does this trigger notifications that the battery is almost empty when it's clearly not, it also throws off the scale of the graphs in the power-statistics window, and the discharge profile has a bunch of erroneous peaks in it. Filtering them out would be fairly trivial. My normal power consumption seems to hover between 10W and 14W, while the typical peak values generated on unplugging the cable always is in the range of 710-720W. I don't think there are any normal circumstances under which a battery should/would report such a huge leap in power usage, not even when it's near the end of its lifetime and almost immediately dies. BTW in a related question, does anyone know where g-p-m stores its charge profile and discharge profile data? I looked for it in several places, without luck. I want to see and try if I can manually remove the huge peak values that are in the discharge profile, because right now it looks like a flat line with two or three peaks towering out of it (because of the scaling of the peaks). -- Critcally low shown on unplug at 100% full https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/516023 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

That wording would be a *little* better for this situation, because it refers to installing at all -- but new sources would still be a bit of a non-sequitur. [Bug 553646] Re: Waking from hibernate unexpectedly prompts for password
Not only do I not use a password to log on, I also have the screensaver set to not require a password when interrupted. So it is odd that power management requires one when resuming. To me it seems that the screensaver setting and the logon setting should be one and the same and should match the PM resume behaviour as well. Either you need a password to use the machine (non-su), or you don't! [Bug 605577] Re: Help contents title bar shows cubes with numbers instead of a proper title
Here's what happens: In an English system, the English language pack installs the following translation catalogs for yelp: /usr/share/locale-langpack/en/LC_MESSAGES/yelp.mo /usr/share/locale-langpack/e...@shaw/LC_MESSAGES/yelp.mo /usr/share/locale-langpack/en_AU/LC_MESSAGES/yelp.mo /usr/share/locale-langpack/en_CA/LC_MESSAGES/yelp.mo /usr/share/locale-langpack/en_GB/LC_MESSAGES/yelp.mo They correspond to each one of the variants for which there are translations. However, /usr/share/locale-langpack/en/LC_MESSAGES/yelp.mo should not exist, since that corresponds to the POSIX (C, or US English) locale, in which all applications are written - and therefore no translations are needed. The 'en' translation is being created from the 'e...@shaw' one, and that's because the translation tarball exported from Launchpad to create the latest full language pack on 2010-08-17 [1] contains the yelp e...@shaw translation in the en/LC_MESSAGES folder. I'm not sure why, but perhaps because of the recent changes with @ locales in Launchpad? I'm adding a task for Launchpad Translations. Thanks Dennis for pointing to the cause of the problem. [Bug 629622] Re: MIR+FFE: Inclusion of Ubuntu Font Family ~0.7 in Maverick (10.10)
Mandarin chinese takes *ages* to install the font (I thought it had crashed) however it did eventually install and here it is, again no issue caused directly by the new font as default.
