[Bug 828623] Re: gnome control centre does not allow you to disable the laptop screen while leaving an external connected screen working

2011-08-22 Thread Dave Russell
A workaround is to run the following commands:

xrandr --size 1920x1200 --output LVDS1 --off --output HDMI1 --mode 1920x1200
compiz --replace

Still, it really should work via the gui...

[Bug 828027] Re: plymouth dependency dejavu font missing

2011-08-22 Thread Dennis Knorr
In our setup we use FAI for distributing our Linux. The packages (plymouth,
too) are fully installed on the local system (and harddisk) with the nfsroot
(which is mounted remotely). After that, the initramfs of the local system is
updated. and then the local hooks are executed. And there, the font-copy fails.
The font-copy will even fail after installation, as long as the font is not
installed by any package.
hth :)

ps: what would be the different fixes?

[Bug 820306] Re: debconf item apt-setup/security_path not fully honoured

2011-08-22 Thread javierpb
Please apologize for misreading the comment.
Once enabled the proposed component boot parameter, with the old the security
updates were searched on the right place.
I need to manually select a kernel package, but I guess that is unrelated to
this bug, which I consider closed (at least for lucid release which I reported
and verified now).
In case could be useful, I attach the installer syslog.

[Bug 824099] Re: [~30 systems] Plugging in external monitor to VGA port makes both displays corrupted with thick slanted lines

2011-08-22 Thread Ara Pulido
** Description changed:

+ [ATI] https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/830953
+
Oneiric Alpha 3 installed on this system. Under testing, one test is to
plug in an external monitor and ensure that external video functions
properly. On this EeePC, it does not. (See photo attached to this
  bug).

Once the external montior is plugged in, both the primary display and
the external display are horribly garbled. The only thing that exists
on the screen that's remotely readable is the panel at the top. The
rest of the desktop area is just a mess.

[Bug 830901] Re: [FFE] Switch default UI from gtk2 to gtk3

2011-08-22 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
I have been testing the GTK3 version heavily. This list is mostly
GTK3-specific bugs reported by me and others, though it includes some
that affect GTK2 as well: http://ur1.ca/4y6zr Many of them have been
fixed already. Michael could judge this better than me, but at this
point I think the number of new bugs in the GTK3 UI is comparable to the
number of GTK2-specific bugs it will resolve.

As far as I know, the GTK3 UI does have feature parity, except that the
OneConf plug-in has not been adapted for it, and apturl's minver
syntax is not implemented (bug 828281). I believe the improvement in
learnability outweighs that temporary loss.

The banners are obviously placeholders. Otto Greenslade will be working
on initial proper banners. The slow switching between banners is
intentional, equivalent to the slow switching between Featured items
on the home screen in 4.x.

The navigation bar looking bad in Radiance is bug 828092.

[Bug 830961] Re: package nanny 2.31.1-0ubuntu4 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed pre-removal script returned error exit status 1

2011-08-22 Thread Ken Speakman
After a reboot, I managed to uninstall with apt-get purge followed by an
autoremove to remove the dependencies. There may well be problems with
nanny, which is why I don't think I'll try again, but the synaptic
problem that triggered this bug report seems to have been resolved
satisfactorily.

[Bug 829186] Re: Mixes static and GI library bindings

2011-08-22 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package jockey - 0.9.4-0ubuntu1

---
jockey (0.9.4-0ubuntu1) oneiric; urgency=low

  * New upstream bug fix release:
- oslib.py: Do not encourage to report package installation failure as
SystemError, it will appear as a backend crash
- jockey-gtk: Fix message_type argument to Gtk.MessageBox constructor
- jockey/ui.py: For invalid combinations of LC_MESSAGES and LC_CTYPE, force
  stdout/stderr encoding to UTF-8 instead of C. (LP: #760883)
- Fix GLib and GObject imports to be compatible with the future pygobject
  3.0. (LP: #829186)
- jockey/detection.py, _driverid_to_handler(): In the case that there are
multiple matching custom handlers for a DriverID, also check that their
  package attribute matches.
- tests/run: Also support specifying individual test method names
  * Add debian/testpkgs/: Scripts and equivs control files for dummy
driver packages which are convenient for testing.
  * debian/rules: Call debian/testpkgs/clean to ensure that we don't ship
build stuff there.
  * data/handlers/{fglrx,nvidia}.py: Prevent crash if
get_alternative_by_name() returns nothing.
  * jockey/oslib.py, {install,remove}_package(): Capture apt's stdout/err into
the log file, to get proper error messages when packages fail to install.
(LP: #552300).
  * jockey/oslib.py, install_package(): Avoid raising a SystemError when a
package fails to install in apt, as this will appear as a crash in Jockey.
Just point out the error in the log file instead. (LP: #804709)
  * tests/oslib.py: Update test cases for above change.
  * tests/oslib.py: Fix apt initialization to work with current apt versions.
  * data/handlers/{fglrx,nvidia}.py: Also show the -updates variants of the
drivers, which will be updated to newer upstream versions after the
Ubuntu release. (UbuntuSpec:desktop-o-xorg-stakeholders-request)

2011-08-22 Thread Bryan Wu
Marc,

Could you please check whether there is an multicard reader controller
on USB bus? from your lsusb output, we don't see any card reader
hardware was enabled. And maybe try the method from Manoj.

Re: [Bug 829334] Re: Xorg doesn't start after the update

2011-08-22 Thread Alex
First of all, Thank you. But i have some questions

1. What do you mean unofficial? I downloaded it from the vendor's site.

2. And how can this be if the previous update were always working fine?
3. What is that module and how can it be built? Should i reinstall the driver?
force an nvidia update?

Subject: [Bug 829334] Re: Xorg doesn't start after the update

You've got an unofficial nvidia installation, so you need to build the
kernel module for the updated kernel by hand..

Well, not sure if Xorg or not, but after i did an update (using security

[Bug 720647] Re: gvfsd-ftp crashed with SIGSEGV in start_thread()

2011-08-22 Thread Roman Yagodin
Same problem appears when I try to duplicate file(s) on a ftp share via
gvfs-ftp. Problem persists since upgrade from Maverick to Natty.

I consider importance of the bug must be set to High, cause it makes
ftp in nautilus almost completely broken. Switching to another ftp
client like FileZilla doesn't add usability to Ubuntu Desktop,
especially when it goes to work with files in different locations at
same time (copy from nautilus smb share to ftp, e.g.)
