[Bug 832864] Re: pyside version 1.0.4-1 failed to build in oneiric

2011-08-31 Thread Barry Warsaw
@ScottK: given where we are in the release cycle, doesn't it make more
sense to try to fix the immediate problem rather than sync a bunch of
new packages? debhelper is the most worrying one.

The problem appears to be that phonon.so doesn't get built so there's
nothing to install, and the d/python-pyside.phonon.install names a non-
existent file. I'll look at the PPA to see if that's an easy fix. I
actually see nothing in the build log that even references phonon.so
until the install failure.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug. This is strange: it seems to
me that the problem is caused by the Ubuntu Desktop PPA being enabled, could
you please try disabling the PPA and using the gobject-introspection files from

[Bug 523796] Re: Startup list does not save changes randomly

2011-08-31 Thread Jukka Niiranen
I can confirm this!

I am running a clean install of Ubuntu 11.04 64bit classic desktop, with
all updates (31.8.2011). After adding a program to the Startup
Applications everything looks good. After the first restart the set
program starts up automatically as expected. But after that the
~/config/autostart folder is empty and on the second restart the set
program does not start up anymore.

In my case ~/.config/autostart folder was already owned by the
username:username and the permissions were: drwx--. I changed the
permissions to Drwxrwxrwx, but no effect.

As a background, I am building a information Kiosk, so the Ubuntu is set
to login automatically and the program I am trying to automatically
launch at the startup is Chromium Browser. The command I'm using in
Startup Applications is: /usr/bin/chromium-browser --kiosk
http://www.amusa.fi/ruutu/etela-karjala;

WORKAROUND

To stop the Startup Application setting from disappearing I used the following
procedure. This is not a fix, but I am able to live with this workaround:
1. Set the Startup Application normally [in my case chromium-browser]
2. Set the permissions of ~/.config/autostart folder to: dr-xr-xr-x (chmod 555
autostart)
3. Set the permissions of ~/.config/autostart/chromium-browser.desktop to :
-r--r--r-- (chmod 444 filename) [chromium-browser.desktop is the startup
settings file the application I want to startup]

This workaround seems to work for me. Naturally I'm now unable to add
more Startup Applications...

[Bug 822356] Re: Linux Mint 11 install repaint issue

2011-08-31 Thread Sérgio Faria
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We need some more information from you before we can
start working on this bug.

Please run the following command which will attach necessary
information:

apport-collect 822356
if you are using Karmic Koala (9.10) or newer, or

apport-collect -p linux-image-`uname -r` BUGNUMBER
if you are using Hardy Heron (8.04)

Bear in mind that you may need to install the python-launchpadlib
package from the universe repository with 'sudo apt-get install python-
launchpadlib'. Additionally, when prompted to give apport-collect
permissions for Launchpad you will need to give it at least the ability
to Change Non-Private data as it will be adding information to your
bug report.

If you are using an older release or cannot use apport please at least add the
following information (pay attention to lspci's additional options):
First run the following commands:
1) uname -a uname-a.log
2) dmesg dmesg.log
3) sudo lspci -vvnn lspci-vvnn.log
4) cat /proc/version_signature version.log
then attach the files separately to the bug report (not pasted into comments or
tar/zip-ed).

For your reference, the full description of procedures for kernel-
related bug reports is available at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/KernelTeamBugPolicies. Thanks in
advance!

[Bug 838091] [NEW] should link fsck.ntfs - ntfsfix/ntfsck

2011-08-31 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Public bug reported:

I've got a dualboot laptop, and the installer has created fstab entries
for the NTFS partitions. But now oneiric is complaining that it can't
mount them, and prompts me on boot what to do about it. Skipping or
ignoring the error makes the boot complete, and boot.log reveals that it
fails due to fsck.ntfs being missing.

So, ntfs-3g should symlink fsck.ntfs to ntfsfix or ntfsck, though the
latter fails to check my partitions, so maybe ntfsfix would be better.

[Bug 836529] Re: Unity on netbooks is unusable

2011-08-31 Thread gerard
Hello guys

I found out a fall-back solution for the netbook which is acceptable for me, so
far.
In order to see the « lens » at the bottom part of the sceen and the « type
panel » on the right end, I did the following :
- click on the minimize icon (« - ») on the topleft title bar, then it appears.
- click on the full screen icon (« square ») on the topleft title bar.
Now I'm in the same configuration on the 10'' screen as on the 23'', no
difference.

Question : why does the netbook start full screen, as it is not the case
on a bigger screen ?? !!

[Bug 576648] Re: package nvidia-* failed to install/upgrade: nvidia-* kernel module failed to build (Unable to determine the target kernel version.)

2011-08-31 Thread JimmyTheGeek
My duplicate Bug #837381 is on the Ubuntu Ultimate Oz Onyx64 build.
There is a Post-Install Information folder in your /home/username folder
that explains how to configure your files for restart. Once that was
done, I had to sudo apt-get-install nvidia-settings, and reboot twice.

Once that was done, everything worked fine and I was able to configure
my dual-monitor setup. Hope this helps!

[Bug 822605] Re: [dash] View photos in the dash launches default image viewer instead of shotwell

2011-08-31 Thread Alberto Mardegan
I gave it some of my deepest thoughts ;-), and the more I think of this,
the more I dislike the hardcoding - and not only because I'm a happy
user of f-spot myself. :-)

There is a way to specify preferred applications: go to the system
settings - system information (I'm translating from Italian, I'm not
sure if the labels are like this in English) - preferred applications

There I can set shotwell as my preferred photo viewer and everything works
consequently. So I believe there is no bug here.
It's undeniable that the preferred apps it's very hard to find, but that's an
issue which should be addressed by the system settings application, IMO.

Florian, I'm closing this bug as invalid for unity-2d and to mark it as
affecting the system settings (opinion).

[Bug 838106] [NEW] Oneiric lxdm won't boot ubuntu

2011-08-31 Thread Erick Brunzell
Public bug reported:

Having recently learned that Lubuntu will use lxdm in Oneiric, which is
fine, I just wanted to double check and see if it would also boot
Ubuntu. It won't!

There is no need to fix lxdm. I just think it wise to include a brief
release note regarding this so users will choose to use lightdm if
planning to run both ubuntu-desktop and lubuntu-desktop.

Okay, so clearly the manpage is wrong. ;)

Your original report says that you were trying to play a movie with mplayer
when you got this crash. Can you describe exactly what you were doing to get
this error?

Also, can you try this:

$ sudo apt-get install --reinstall python3 python3.2

and let us know what happens?

[Bug 836480] Re: CPU fan runs very very fast ubuntu 11.10 dell xpsl702x

2011-08-31 Thread Leann Ogasawara
Hi Amit,

It'll be helpful if you could help us narrow down between which two
kernels this regression was introduced. You commented, Natty was ok.
Which specific Natty kernel version were you using (look at the output
of `uname -a` from a Terminal)? I'd then suggest trying some kernels in
between the Natty kernel you were using and the current 3.0.0-9.14
Oneiric kernel. I've pasted some links below for reference to some of
the earlier Oneiric kernels for you to try. If the issue exists in the
earliest 3.0-1.0 Oneiric kernel, you won't need to test any further as
that indicates it's a regression between the latest Natty Kernel and the
earliest Oneiric kernel and we'll have to bisect with the mainline
builds. But try testing out the following and let us know your results:

[Bug 773524] Re: [Toshiba Tecra R850] SD card reader doesn't work

2011-08-31 Thread Herton R. Krzesinski
This bug is awaiting verification that the kernel in -proposed solves
the problem. Please test the kernel and update this bug with the
results. If the problem is solved, change the tag 'verification-needed-
natty' to 'verification-done-natty'.

If verification is not done by one week from today, this fix will be
dropped from the source code, and this bug will be closed.

See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how
to enable and use -proposed. Thank you!

[Bug 601942] Re: Thunar doesn't clear 'metadata' when emtying trash

2011-08-31 Thread Lionel Le Folgoc
 That isn’t a Kubuntu Bug it’s a thunar bug

I'm always happy to see such counterproductive behavior. It'd be nice if
you could elaborate a bit, otherwise we're going to continue playing
ping-pong with this bug report, ad nauseam. Thanks.

This metadata directory doesn't seem to be contained on the trash-
directory specification (http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Specifications
/trash-spec), so unless you prove me wrong, I think thunar works as
expected.
