[ubuntu-uk] Libre Office Gedit?
An amusing fault on my system today. Clicking on the Libre Office Calc icon that is pinned to the launcher by default now loads Gedit. Locating a spreadsheet file and double clicking loads Calc. This is on 12.10. Am I alone in this issue and can anyone shed any light? Thanks -- ubuntu-uk@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-uk https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UKTeam/

Re: [ubuntu-uk] Libre Office Gedit?
That's odd. I have had an issue with VLC on two completely separate installs of 12.04 and 12.10 which appeared and rectified itself of it's own accord. The really strange thing is that being on payg 3g I can't do updates very often and all these problems are arriving and solving themselves without any changes to the system. Re: [ubuntu-uk] NFSv4 on new 12.04 server? Now USB issues...
Simon/Matt, You are indeed correct, the speed of the USB drive appears to be the issue rather than the speed of the NFS share. Copying a 250MB file takes nearly 8 minutes... very poor... I've had a quick google which seems to suggest this issue has been around since 8.04. The suggested remedies do not seem to work however (adding grub options of pci=routeirq or pci=apci, yes I did update grub). Watching 'top' on another SSH session during the copy shows that the CPU use is around 5%, but the one minute load average is nearly 3, which I really don't understand... And this new server was going so well :( Lee On 24/11/12 19:41, Simon Greenwood wrote: My immediate response would be to check the speed of the USB drive against a share on the internal disk (assuming you still have the USB drive attached). Re: [ubuntu-uk] NFSv4 on new 12.04 server? Now USB issues...
Matt, It's a Lacie "Phil Starck" USB2.0 black box, with a 2TB Samsung F3 in it. From the speed, less than 1MB/sec, I'd agree, dmesg is also saying "full-speed" against everything USB. Am I right in thinking it should say "high-speed" ? And the $64K question, how do I fix it? I presume from some googling ehci-hcd should be loaded, but isn't??? By extension, any paper cuts that can be traced through Unity and back into Compiz will also be valid targets. The risk here is that many of the bugs here may not be papercuts, but we're going to spend a cycle just seeing when we can fix. Regular meetings of the paper cuts team, as well as constant communication with Unity and Desktop developers will stop us going too far down a bad path. William Hua (attente on Freenode) will help us out with GTK issues we hack on, and help us get our patches into upstream. In summary, greater attention will be paid to the UI foundation technologies shipped in Ubuntu over individual apps. === Scripts and app for the Papercutters PPA === Progress reporter script A small python script that will display the current status of the project for the current cycle. Currently very simply but hoping it will evolve into something more. 'One click' setup script for Compiz/Unity If we're going to be targetting Compiz, for paper cut manifesting in Unity, then it's important for contributors to be able to test their patches easily, and for that thay have to be able to build both Compiz and Unity with the minimal of headaches, something neither of these packages really allows for at the moment. A script should be written, and regularly maintained, that will allow the user to branch and build both Compiz and Unity from source, and immediately have it up and running. There are many unanounced chaned to the build dependencies to Unity so in order to keep the script upto date, the help of the Unity devs should be enlisted here. In order to make sure it was always working, it needs to be tested regularly, preferably daily. The best way to do this would be to use Ubuntu's [[https://jenkins.qa.ubuntu.com/|Jenkins]] server for automated daily build testing. === Responsiveness of design team to requests for input === A lot of bugs that require design input often don't get a response when input is requested, even if it's just to aprove an existing design. Matthew Paul Thomas as previously suggested that if we assign the bug to Nick Tait (jnick_tait on Launchpad), a project manager on the design team, then he'd get it delegated to another designer, hopefully leading to more members of the design team working with the community. === Future of #ubuntu-papercuts on Freenode === A couple of months ago the papercuts team had it's own IRC channel. This channel has seen almost no traffic since day one, and it has been suggested that the paper cuts team hang about in #ubuntu-desktop instead since that would give our work greater exposure, and we are effectively a subteam of Ubuntu Desktop anyway, so it makes sense to stay close to them. #ubuntu-papercuts will be closed down in a couple of days. Meaning that if you have a fix in unity, you don't surely won't need to build the latest nux or compiz because it will be in ubuntu :) Also, it means that once a papercut is reviewed and landed to trunk, the day after, it will be in ubuntu, quite motivating, isn't it? :) So fixing something will only ask for (for instance, in unity): - sudo apt-get build-dep unity - bzr branch lp:unity - hack your fix - bzr bd - install the packages, tests So, I guess this script is really not needed (nor the machinery to have it running everyday). If alacarte shouldn't do what it should do try the following. I got rid of many issues by deleting ~/.cache. On Xubuntu mailing list somebody mentioned I found a bug for this. It is specific to Xubuntu. alacarte writes the menu file to the wrong name on Xubuntu. I just copied my ~/.config/menus/applications.menu file to xfce-applications.menu file and it now works fine. I didn't test that until now, I'll test FreeBSD and look out for Linux solutions without X. Nowadays it takes 3 seconds for startup, but 30 seconds to open an email. Desktop environments for both Ubuntu Studio and Ubuntu 12.10 are a PITA on my machine, following other mailing lists, this is for Debian and Arch Linux also an issue. If the reader should be used to read PDF files only, then I also recommend to use an open source application, but perhaps the proprietary thingy is able to do something else. Re: cannot run Adobe Reader
Booklet printing is where you can print a document of several pages long, but each page is reduced to fit on half the sheet, and all in the correct order so that when printed the whole lot can be stapled and folded to form a booklet, albeit smaller than the original document. Currently I now have to go into Windows, via Virtualbox to do this. I realise Ubuntu developers cannot fix Adobe Reader, but it seems to rely on libxml2, which is part of Linux, and the error message suggests that's where the problem lies, as it used to work previously before one of the updates I did in Ubuntu Studio. I would contact adobe for support of the adobe products. I would be glad to help track down booklet printing if you'd elaborate as to what that is. Also, in the interest of casting a wider support query, you might seek help in the main ubuntu avenues as this issue is not ubuntustudio specific. Cheers.
[Ubuntu-BR] [OFF-TOPIC] Multifuncionais HP no Ubuntu - Parte II

[Bug 1082838] Re: regression in wlan with 3.2.0-33 works with 3.2.0-29
After adding precise-proposed to my repository list, the problem went away. Did not do any intersection test. Assume some udev or similar package upgrade having fixed this. So use you're favorite package manager to add proposed updates to your repo list or simply: replace at.archive.ubuntu.com by your favorite repository server as root: cat /etc/apt/sources.list deb http://at.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise-proposed restricted main multiverse universe deb-src http://extras.ubuntu.com/ubuntu precise main ^D apt-get update apt-get upgrade reboot If this is a duplicate, sorry for bothering, Klaus -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1082838 Title: regression in wlan with 3.2.0-33 works with 3.2.0-29 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1082838/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I downgraded to confirm the old version was working (it was). Upgraded again and this time the Fn keys weren't working, but the brightness slider was present. [Bug 1082840] Re: ubunt cannot halt correctly without power
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1082840/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. [Bug 992928] Re: Alt-Backtick Keyboard Shortcut is Hardcoded
Misbehaviour still present in quantal I'm using gnome-fallback session. Seems that keybooard settings are under gsettings now. The magic to get this annoyance fixed is now: gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings switch-group ['disabled'] (dconf-editor to the same spot works as well) (the default setting for this is ['AltAbove_Tab']. [Bug 1082853] [NEW] Network Manager not disabled when managed=false
Public bug reported: Network Manager can't seem to deal with having two ethernet ports, with eth0 not managed by it and eth1 managed as pppoe. So I tried to disable Network Manager by via the conf file shown below. But it constantly shows Wired Network Disconnected messages to me, and ifconfig -a sometimes shows two attempts at ppp sessions. ppp0 I set up on eth1, and ppp1 Network Manager is trying to set up. It fails, repeatedly. I want it to go away--I spent forever trying to get it to manage my networks correctly and it just won't, so now I'll be happy to do it myself if I can just get Network Manager to go away. However this bug is still present on an up-to-date precise. + --- + AlsaVersion: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.24. + ApportVersion: 2.0.1-0ubuntu15 + Architecture: amd64 + ArecordDevices: + List of CAPTURE Hardware Devices + card 1: SB [HDA ATI SB], device 0: ALC269VB Analog [ALC269VB Analog] +Subdevices: 1/1 +Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 + AudioDevicesInUse: + USERPID ACCESS COMMAND + /dev/snd/controlC1: gerhard2217 F pulseaudio + /dev/snd/controlC0: gerhard2217 F pulseaudio + Card0.Amixer.info: + Card hw:0 'Generic'/'HD-Audio Generic at 0xfeb44000 irq 42' +Mixer name : 'ATI R6xx HDMI' +Components : 'HDA:1002aa01,00aa0100,00100200' +Controls : 6 +Simple ctrls : 1 + Card0.Amixer.values: + Simple mixer control 'IEC958',0 +Capabilities: pswitch pswitch-joined penum +Playback channels: Mono +Mono: Playback [on] + Card1.Amixer.info: + Card hw:1 'SB'/'HDA ATI SB at 0xfeb4 irq 16' +Mixer name : 'Realtek ALC269VB' +Components : 'HDA:10ec0269,144dc600,00100100' +Controls : 19 +Simple ctrls : 11 + DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04 + HibernationDevice: RESUME=UUID=a61a19a0-e46b-4166-ba49-6a56ed9a4673 + InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Precise Pangolin - Release amd64 (20120425) + MachineType: SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO., LTD. 305U1A + MarkForUpload: True + NonfreeKernelModules: fglrx + Package: linux (not installed) + ProcEnviron: + TERM=xterm + PATH=(custom, no user) + LANG=en_US.UTF-8 + SHELL=/bin/bash + ProcFB: 0 VESA VGA + ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-3.2.0-33-generic root=UUID=efa624b8-abed-4c31-a30e-08852678e504 ro + ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.2.0-33.52-generic 3.2.31 + RelatedPackageVersions: + linux-restricted-modules-3.2.0-33-generic N/A + linux-backports-modules-3.2.0-33-generic N/A + linux-firmware1.79.1 + Tags: precise running-unity + Uname: Linux 3.2.0-33-generic x86_64 + UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) + UserGroups: adm cdrom dip disk lpadmin plugdev sambashare sudo vboxusers + dmi.bios.date: 07/29/2011 + dmi.bios.vendor: American Megatrends Inc. + dmi.bios.version: 01PS.M002.20110729.LEO + dmi.board.asset.tag: To be filled by O.E.M. + dmi.board.name: 305U1A/305U1A + dmi.board.vendor: SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO., LTD. + dmi.board.version: 01PS + dmi.chassis.asset.tag: No Asset Tag + dmi.chassis.type: 9 + dmi.chassis.vendor: SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO., LTD. + dmi.chassis.version: N/A + dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnAmericanMegatrendsInc.:bvr01PS.M002.20110729.LEO:bd07/29/2011:svnSAMSUNGELECTRONICSCO.,LTD.:pn305U1A:pvr01PS:rvnSAMSUNGELECTRONICSCO.,LTD.:rn305U1A/305U1A:rvr01PS:cvnSAMSUNGELECTRONICSCO.,LTD.:ct9:cvrN/A: + dmi.product.name: 305U1A + dmi.product.version: 01PS + dmi.sys.vendor: SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO., LTD. ** Attachment added: AcpiTables.txt https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1082851/+attachment/3443311/+files/AcpiTables.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1082851 Title: Screen stays black after suspend with AMD Fusion APUs and fglrx driver To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1082851/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
