[Bug 1023069] Re: Packages was corrupt

marking Precise as fixed released since the correction is in precise-

For lucid, a backport of 1.0.39 will be required. Please be aware that
this will not fix a situation where the .iso file is used as an archive

[Bug 923876] Re: FR: Limit and clean-up kernel images and headers automatically in LTS

2013-02-13 Thread Daniel Hartwig
* debian/apt.conf.autoremove: don't include linux-image*,
linux-restricted-modules*, and linux-ubuntu-modules* packages in the
list to never be autoremoved.

Aptitude in Precise and later (and earlier) carries a patch that
potentially nullifies this change. Previously the patch was redundant
(see bug #1053776), now it will prevent this fix from being effective
for users of aptitude.

The file 05aptitude configures an aptitude option that has similar
effect to apt's never autoremove setting.

[Bug 1123126] Re: 12.04 plasma init script order wrong

2013-02-13 Thread Colin Watson
Hello lordievader, or anyone else affected,

Accepted kde-workspace into precise-proposed. The package will build now
and be available at http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kde-
workspace/4:4.8.5-0ubuntu0.3 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 1124186] [NEW] better integrate with plymouth

2013-02-13 Thread Dmitrijs Ledkovs
Public bug reported:

Options for ask-for-password command:
--command=string Command to send password to via standard input
--prompt=string Message to display when asking for password
--number-of-tries=integerNumber of times to ask before giving up
(requires --command)
--dont-pause-progress Don't pause boot progress bar while asking

Currently cryptroot handles number-of-tries by itself, maybe it's better
to use plymouth api with --command.

Currently there is a noticeable delay between typing a passphrase wrong
being offered to type it again. But maybe it's just cryptsetup taking
it's time.

3. adds acl for user
4. writes the result.

Any existing group acl is kept.

What this test case shows, is that in step 1 udev will get what looks
like a group acl (for zero perms) - even though that was not an acl, it
was just the group perms on the inode. Then in step 4, that acl gets
written as an explicit acl.

To test, compile the program, touch a file, look at the perms, run this
program specifying the file as argument, and re-check the perms:

1. gcc -o acltest acltest.c -lacl
2. echo ab ab
3. chmod 700 ab
3. ls -l ab; getfacl ab
4. ./acltest ab
5. ls -l ab; getfacl ab

An acl has been added to ab (indicated by '+' in ls output), which was
not there before

[Bug 1124214] [NEW] X does not start on alternate after installing in virtualbox

2013-02-13 Thread Paul Larson
Public bug reported:

After installing the 20120213.1 alternate image for precise, I should
see X come up on the first boot, but instead it's leaving me at a
console login.

In the Xorg.0.log, it seems to be having trouble loading the vboxvideo module
and fails to ever give me a graphical desktop.
I tried installing virtualbox-ose-guest-dkms to see if it would help and got a
build error on the module:
http://paste.ubuntu.com/1641967/ but shouldn't the failover mode work in vbox
too?

[Bug 1124230] [NEW] Language selector comes up after 12.04.2 rc candidate installation in english

2013-02-13 Thread Paul Larson
Public bug reported:

After installing the 20120213.1 alternate image in english, I log in and
see the language selector come up telling me I have incomplete language
support. I installed in english, with the system connected to the
internet during the install. From the dialog that comes up, it seems to
indicate that English (United States) and English are present, just
not the ones for UK, Australia, or Canada, which is what I would expect
so I'm not sure what it thinks is missing.

[Bug 1119248] Re: [SRU] nova does not set container_format when snapshotting instance with ref image deleted

2013-02-13 Thread Jamie Strandboge
Thanks for your work on this! debian/changelog has a version of
2012.1.4+stable-20121217-9f277e38-0ubuntu2 against precise-proposed, but
this version is not in the archive. Your patch should be against
2012.1.3+stable-20120827-4d2a4afe-0ubuntu1.1 (what is currently in
precise-security/precise-updates).

Otherwise the patch looks fine. Can you adjust this and mention your
testing results after patching 2012.1.3+stable-20120827-4d2a4afe-
0ubuntu1.1?

[Bug 1124074] Re: [MIR] libcdr

2013-02-13 Thread Michael Terry
-Simple, modern packaging
-No delta
-No test suite
-No symbols file, but it's C++, so that's understandable
-debian/copyright file is a little malformed (missing license stanza), but
that's an issue for NEW, not for MIR. Plus, this is from Debian so not worth a
delta.
-Would be nice to see a bug subscriber
-This would normally need a security review, since it's a file parser, but
since it's been in main, I'll skip that step. Splitting it out actually makes
it easier to handle security issues.

*However*, it does have the lintian warning hardening-no-fortify-
functions. Can you just check if that warning is a false or true
positive? Otherwise, approved.

[Bug 1111689] Re: Due to possibly bricking the system, the samsung-laptop driver should not be allowed to run if booting from EFI

2013-02-13 Thread Brad Figg
I don't actually have a Samsung laptop to try this on however, the
patches were clean cherry-picks of the upstream commits which have been
Linus' tree for a little while so should have gotten some testing. I
recommend that we accept these changes and I'm going go to ahead and
mark this as verified.

[Bug 1073062] Re: modprobe: Assertion `kmod_module_get_initstate(m) == KMOD_MODULE_BUILTIN' failed

2013-02-13 Thread Andy Whitcroft
This seems to be a 'limitation' of kmod. Previously modprobe was able
to understand aliases which pointed to 'off' as meaning it should
silently do nothing. These seem to throw and error now. I will have a
look to see if we can make kmod understand these in the interim while
they are repaired.

[Bug 1124092] Re: [MIR] libvisio

2013-02-13 Thread Michael Terry
Identical comments as from libcdr MIR bug 1124074 (same Debian packager
and upstream authors, so makes sense I guess):

[Bug 606238] Re: synaptic touchpad not recognized on dell latitude e6510 and others

2013-02-13 Thread Marcelo Fernandez
 Hi Vince,

Ok, I've tried setting two-finger scrolling in the System Config, and
executed synclient FingerLow=5 FingerHigh=6, but despite I get *a very
little bit* of scrolling (in some rare cases), this is not useful at
all; most of the times I fail to scroll.

Hi, you either have to :
 - enable two-finger-scrolling (and then two-finger scrolling should work
 correctly without further settings)
 - enable edge scrolling with synclient FingerLow=5 FingerHigh=6

You can try to lower the values of FingerLow/GingerHigh. I got the values
straight from the kernel driver (I added some debug
messages while trying to debug my touchpad's driver) bug there are probably
many other ways to get them.

Hi Vince,

I'm answering from the bug report so everybody can see my results in a
Vostro 3360.

You're right about two-finger scrolling, it seems to work by default
(synclient -l gets configured with FingerLow=12/FingerHigh=15). I
figured out that it doesn't work _perfectly_ (I'm still getting frequent
pointer movements instead of scrolling up/down) if I use the middle
finger + ring finger. It works much better if I use the index finger +
middle finger nail instead (YMMV, of course).

On the other hand, the edge scrolling, even setting FingerLow=5
FingerHigh=6 does not work, or does it in very seldom cases.

Thank you!

[Bug 1124250] [NEW] Partially incorrect uid mapping with nfs4/idmapd/ldap-auth

2013-02-13 Thread Norbert Muda
Public bug reported:

I'm running a nfs4 server exporting a directory /home (ext4,usrquota). This
server is running Ubuntu 12.04 amd64(up-to-date). This directory is handling
662 homedirs for ldap authenticated users.
/etc/exports is :
/exports 192.168.0.0/24(rw,fsid=0,no_subtree_check)

Important lines in /etc/idmapd.conf :

In /etc/default/nfs-common :

In /etc/default/nfs-kernel-server :

2 Clients (rhel6 x86 Ubuntu 12.04.2 i686) are mounting this nfs4 exported
directory with no problems :
When doing ls -l /home on this clients, I have :

All Clients running Ubuntu 12.10 i686 or Ubuntu 12.10 amd64 are experiencing

for 571 homedirs (this number varies at each reboot)/662, the owner is the
value 4294967294. For the 91 remaining homedirs,
the owner is correct. The gidnumber is correctly mapped for all (only 5
differents values used for gidNumber).

In /var/log/syslog, I can see :

For example : user110 is mapped as 4294967294.
but the command id user110 returns :
uid=31124(user110) gid=666(oldusers) groupes=666(oldusers)

user110 logs in (auth ldap) from tty1. He runs ls -l /home/user110/ :

drwxr-xr-x 8 4294967294 oldusers 4096 janv. 19 2012 Bureau

drwxr-xr-x 2 4294967294 oldusers 4096 déc. 2 2011 Images

Then, he runs touch /home/user110/test :

drwxr-xr-x 8 4294967294 oldusers 4096 janv. 19 2012 Bureau
drwxr-xr-x 3 4294967294 oldusers 4096 déc. 2 2011 Documents

drwxr-xr-x 2 4294967294 oldusers0 févr. 13 16:01 test

On the nfs server, If i do a ls -l in the same directory :

drwxr-xr-x 8 user110 oldusers 4096 janv. 19 2012 Bureau
drwxr-xr-x 3 user110 oldusers 4096 déc. 2 2011 Documents
drwxr-xr-x 2 user110 oldusers 4096 déc. 2 2011 Images
drwxr-xr-x 2 user110 oldusers0 févr. 13 16:01 test

I can see that the test file is owned by the correct user.

I've tried without with nscd, same results.
I've tried using sssd, libnss-sss pam_sss for ldap auth and having exactly
the same results :

In /var/log/syslog, I have :
...

[Bug 1124082] Re: [MIR] libmspub

2013-02-13 Thread Michael Terry
Ugh. Again, identical packaging and concerns from MIR bug 1124074 and
bug 1124092. I feel like I'm stuck. :)

-Forgot to mention this in other reviews, but no important bugs in Debian or
Ubuntu for this package (and the others). Of course, this package is rather
new.

Two problems though. This will need a security review, since it's a
file parser. And unlike the other MIRs above, this doesn't seem to have
been in main before via libreoffice. So passing to the security team
for a quick audit.

Also, it does have the lintian warning hardening-no-fortify-functions,
like the other MIRs above. Björn, can you just check if that warning is
a false or true positive?

[Bug 1121503] Re: Alienware AM17xR4 can't enter installer on 12.10

2013-02-13 Thread Xcad Lex
I googled a while back and the noun x.org came up. Maybe there's a
package I could attempt to upgrade to that's in Ubuntu 12.10 or 13 that
isn't in 12.04, then after the upgrade of that single package (and
thereafter other candidates until the culprit is found)? Once
everything goes foobar, we'd know which package to blame.

Thanks for your patch. It is missing the LP bug reference, but other

everything still runs fine. I've adjusted debian/changelog for the bug
reference and am uploading now. ACK

[Bug 1116835] Re: Boot issues after running kernel 3.8.x

2013-02-13 Thread Joseph Salisbury
I built a test kernel with commit

The test kernel can be downloaded from:

Can you test that kernel and report back if it has the bug or not.

Thanks in advance!

[Bug 1124260] Re: Severe crash

2013-02-13 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v3.8 kernel[0] (Not a kernel in the daily directory) and install both
the linux-image and linux-image-extra .deb packages.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot,
please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
Confirmed.

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1122094] Re: [patch] fix improper merge with overlayfs.

2013-02-13 Thread Andy Whitcroft
@reddot -- I have gone back to the merge and it does seem wrong indeed.
I have independantly merged it in light of your report and I believe my
patch matches yours. I have applied this to the quantal kernel source
and produced test kernels as below:

http://people.canonical.com/~apw/lp1122094-quantal/

Could you test those in your stress environment and confirm if this
kernel also works for you. If you could report any testing back here
that would be great. If this passes testing for you, we can talk about
pushing it to the main kernel repo.

[Bug 1119256] Re: rails: CVE-2013-0333: Vulnerability in JSON Parser

2013-02-13 Thread Jamie Strandboge
Stefan, thanks for attending to this bug. Your debdiff is incomplete
however because it patches debian/changelog. As for the binary package,
we don't submit those in Launchpad but instead submit patches to source
packages in the form of debdiffs. These are then reviewed and applied to
source packages, then uploaded to be built, tested and eventually
published to Ubuntu users.

Since this is an important update and in the interest of time, I am
going to incorporate the initial patch you submitted (the one from
Debian) to 11.10 - 12.10 (this is already fixed in 13.04).

If you are interested in contributing to Ubuntu in this manner in the
future, I suggest you read
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SecurityTeam/UpdatePreparation#Packaging. Thanks
again :)

[Bug 1115460] Re: Ubuntu One notes sync is going away

2013-02-13 Thread Rodney Dawes
** Changed in: tomboy (Ubuntu Precise)

** Description changed:

  [Impact]
The notes synchronization feature on Ubuntu One is going away, as announced
on http://voices.canonical.com/ubuntuone/2013/02/04/notification-about-notes/ .

As there are a few patches related to this feature in the Tomboy package
in Ubuntu, we'll need to pull them out, and push an update that doesn't
  default to using the service.

  [Testcase]
- After the update, the synchronization feature won't work with u1 anymore.
+ After the update, the synchronization feature won't default to Ubuntu One
anymore.
+ (Synchronization should still work if user configured it prior to update, but
will stop working once the server side is actually turned off.)

  [Regression]
No more synchronization to the u1 servers, as planned.

[Bug 1124299] [NEW] Wrong vertical refresh with Nouveau

2013-02-13 Thread josealb77
Public bug reported:

Hello,
I'm using Linux Mint 14 MATE, 3.5.0-23 x64 with a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 video
card and a ViewSonic VG1921wm monitor.
Using the NVIDIA privative driver I can set the monitor resolution to 1440x900
@ 75Hz in Menu Preferences Monitors. Then with the monitor buttons I look
in Information and it says that vertical frecuency is 74.8Hz, and when I set it
to 1440x900 @ 60Hz, the monitor says that vertical frecuency is 59.9Hz, namely:
all works well.

But when I'm using Nouveau it has no effect, wathever I set in Menu
Preferences Monitors (as user or as root, is the same) the information
of my monitor always shows a vertical frecuency of 59.9Hz.

My graphical system is crashing with some applications at fullscreen
using Nouveau finally showing a your x-system is bad configured (or
something like that) message, nevertheless I haven't configured anything
else than the refresh rate in Menu Preferences Monitors since I
installed Linux Mint, I don't know if it may be related.

I've already reported this problem in the Linux Mint forum and they've
linked me here. The thread is
http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=59t=125253 if your want to
take a look.

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System -
About Ubuntu

*** Linux Mint 14 Nadia

 2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy
pkgname' or by checking in Software Center

*** I don't know if it's a concrete package bug or the nouveau driver is
releated to the kernel... I'm not sure which package is failing.

 3) What you expected to happen

*** Vertical frecuency showed by my monitor should me the same is selected in
Menu Preferences Monitors

4) What happened instead

*** My monitor always shows 60 Hz as vertical refresh although I select
75 Hz in Linux Mint

What can I do in order to get the real 1440x900@75Hz resolution with
Nouveau?

[Bug 1124297] [NEW] Mouse and touch input devices can't be configured seperately

2013-02-13 Thread Johannes Gowin
Public bug reported:

1) Ubuntu 12.10

2) gnome-control-center 3.6.3-0ubuntu11~ubuntu12.10.1

3) I want all build in/connected cursor moving devices (touchpad, mouse,
external touchpads etc.) to be configured seperately like it's possible with
gpointing-device-settings. The before mentioned package does't work propperly
with Ubuntu anymore (changes aren't persistent #489830) and isn't updated
anymore so it would be nice to have these features directly in the control
center.
Please add an option to configure all input mouses/touchpads/etc. seperately.
I'm not sure about design guidelines but this could be sorted by tabs for every
device that's connected. Also settings for every device should be saved
somewhere so when you connect an external device the next time the settings
should be restored.

4) On my Lenovo laptop I have a Lenovo trackpad and a touchpad, and I
often use an external mouse or an Apple Magic Trackpad. At the moment in
Ubuntu it's not possible to configure them all seperately considering
the different natures of the mentioned input devices.
