Voici l'extrait d'un article: ...Kessem notes that aren’t significant exploit packs targeting Linux. Even those selling the malware admitted as much and told RSA researchers posing as potential buyers that email and social engineering was the best way available to trick open source fans into installing the malware... Re: speeding up package builds
Hi Matthias, On Thu, Aug 08, 2013 at 08:09:57PM +0200, Matthias Klose wrote: I had to look at many core packages, which are needed for a normal and a buildd chroot, and and which are needed to build these packages for the chroots. Given that the core packages are almost all maintained in Debian with minimal if any changes, perhaps it would be useful to discuss this on debian-devel [as well|instead]? Parallel builds Unfortunately not enabled very often. The buildds set DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS=parallel=N, and if the build supports parallel builds, it can speed up the build substantially. Common mistakes: - debhelper based packages don't call with --parallel So for dh(1) rules, this just means calling 'dh $@ --parallel'. Easy to implement once you know it, but not very widely advertised. Perhaps we should get this into the default debhelper rules.tiny example, so that maintainers are encouraged to do the sensible thing by default and only disable parallel builds when there are problems? - debhelper based packages overwrite dh_auto_build and don't call --parallel If you are overriding dh_auto_build to call dh_auto_build with additional options, this isn't needed. dh --parallel will set the following variable in the environment: DH_INTERNAL_OPTIONS=-O--parallel This will be picked up by dh_auto_build. So there's only an issue if you are skipping dh_auto_build in favor of your own invocation, in which case --parallel probably doesn't do what you want anyway? Documentation builds Many packages always build the documentation, even when only building the architecture dependent packages (that is, on our slowest buildds). The easy solution where the upstream docs are not built by default is to build these in an extra target. However I didn't find any good recipes how to write a modern debhelper or semi-modern cdbs rules file how to correctly configure a package to disable the docs build for an arch-only build, and enable the docs for an arch-indep build. Pointers welcome. In the past, the problem here was that the build-arch target was optional, so dpkg-buildpackage always called the 'build' target instead which meant documentation was included. But although the build-arch target will now be used by dpkg-buildpackage, this isn't a very good interface for controlling dh(1) behavior, since overriding these targets would bypass more than just dh_auto_build. I would suggest something like the following: override_dh_auto_build: ifneq (,$(findstring foo-doc, $(shell dh_listpackages))) dh_auto_build -- all docs else dh_auto_build endif Tweaked of course for whatever the right targets are for building docs vs. building programs in your case. If you need to change options to both dh_auto_build and dh_auto_configure to disable the docs build, it's probably easier to override the build{,-indep,-arch} targets directly. (Interestingly, it seems that dh assumes that when called for binary-indep, it doesn't need to call dh_auto_configure... strange...) Hi all, to create and finalize a DVD-video disk with UBS you have many tools to work. The ones which are the best for beginners are - openshot video editor for video editing and help you create *.mpg video files compliant with DVD standard - Audacity for audio editing to create sound and music for your movie - DVDstyler for authoring DVD, help you create the virtual DVD structure compliant to DVD standard. Also help you to burn the disk, or you can use the excellent K3B. - Inkscape and Gimp to create the case. Hope it helps, more infos on www.lprod.org, but mainly available in french. Exciting to see they're getting their first corporate backing from Bloomberg. I'm hoping it gives the campaign the necessary boost to get more support. If you're still sitting on the fence and not usre if this project deserves your backing, have a look at the site again. There are new perks since their launch, and it might just be something for you. Bloomberg, the financial information, analytics and news leader, pledged $80,000 towards the campaign in exchange for the Enterprise 100 perk, which includes a batch of 100 Ubuntu Edge devices and access to a range of Canonical workshops and technical support bringing Ubuntu for Android into the workplace. Bloomberg supports open innovation and initiatives, such as Ubuntu Edge, that align with our software development and business priorities, said Shawn Edwards, Chief Technology Officer at Bloomberg LP. With this investment, Bloomberg developers will contribute to an open technology initiative that could benefit our clients and have a powerful impact on the future of mobile computing. Bloomberg's developers are already designing and building software for advanced devices because our clients demand a seamless experience from the desktop to the mobile platform, said Justin Erenkrantz, Head of Web Architecture, a division of Bloomberg LP's CTO Office. Ubuntu's goal to offer a single-device solution for enterprise convergence and mobility is an exciting prospect and one that complements our vision for open development on the mobile platform. The Ubuntu Edge campaign has already exceeded crowdfunding records -- it raised $2 million in the first eight hours -- and support from such a high-profile company is a boost for us and other backers looking to get their hands on the world’s first truly converged computing device. The Ubuntu Edge will enter production for delivery in May 2014, if $32 million is raised before 11:59pm PT on August 21. It’s available exclusively via Indiegogo, and won’t be available to buy at retail. http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/ubuntu-edgehttp://email.indiegogo.com/wf/click?upn=Ya-2FHTIBcULGv1cJzCEG3iSm8Cy11Z5-2FyqqTQa5dUu7qfqlGCqVDbn7jDrY2pS8XJaSKyVAWwxlpU1YFywsv2-2FQ-3D-3D_sRDhwvtwtzlRaf7unszwdgu-2BL9PsNivO7amckiha5jIRl0zH0LKfZyYKhN6RvZMZiss234jZ9fa-2FajIEM6ZwuYFllyV7KVlVf414O4AxFmRcC8wCP2GIZc05XgorpdCJN9-2Bp8ORjLgJzpw4go0GfjSBf179ZiWhFvGTiWHw1vWLoV5GqPRO5Adq0GbKVBDY0s5sEcdfWE0aSgb6X1tGQiQ-3D-3D -- Visit the ‘Ubuntu Edgehttp://email.indiegogo.com/wf/click?upn=Ya-2FHTIBcULGv1cJzCEG3iSm8Cy11Z5-2FyqqTQa5dUu7qfqlGCqVDbn7jDrY2pS8XJaSKyVAWwxlpU1YFywsv2-2FQ-3D-3D_sRDhwvtwtzlRaf7unszwdgu-2BL9PsNivO7amckiha5jIRl0zH0LKfZyYKhN6RvZMZY1kn5CH9rK-2FfD2fIbx-2FlevjE0mLsc1FRM1D7fkwk0txChU3YXpAgHe0m1I-2BEQGhGUxR0faLqKOwS-2Bs6uWkBg8ZIAVjPP52SWkdPy2xqiIj6EClvCZh-2Bcz-2FADol4EoV0-2BZiJANcZ7KvOmvvWEETEsyA-3D-3D’ campaign. Re: [Ubuntu-be] Fwd: Updates from ‘Ubuntu Edge’
I would really like to see this happen... but to be honest... I think this is basically a big marketing stunt. Setting 32 million USD as starting requirement and having such a steep deadline is almost guaranteed to not happen. This is a too big target to reach with crowdfunding. If you want to gather this kind of money, crowdsourcing is not the way to go/start. You need to find corporate investors first (at least for 50% of the goal), and then go advertise it. So yeah, they collected over 8,000,000 - that's a record. But it's nothing if it's not gonna happen (unless they have some hidden million dollar sponsors out there waiting for the last minute, just to hype it). Grtz, Jurgen. On the contrary: I think the idea behind this approach (starting with crowdfunding) is to figure out how much interest/demand there is for it. Especially since the product they want to throw on the market is essentially already there, just not in this form. (a concept I really like btw) If it turns out a lot of people are willing to invest in the technology, it is an indicator to corporate investors if it will be worth their money and effort to support it. (also, if the goal isn' t reached, I'm pretty sure Canonical will surplus the necessary funds anyway) Anyway, as Jan already pointed out, apparently there is already enough crowdfunding for Bloomberg to see its potential, and with their boost (both money and their reputation), I'm guessing (or hoping) it will convince the big spenders (errr, investors). Let's wait and see. Kr, Nic On 08-08-13 10:52, Jurgen Gaeremyn wrote: I would really like to see this happen... but to be honest... I think this is basically a big marketing stunt. Re: [Ubuntu-be] Fwd: Updates from =?utf-8?Q?=E2=80=98?=Ubuntu Edge ’
How many people actually use Ubuntu? How many people use another distro? If for each distro there is a call for money... A Linux device is nice but ICT-people have already other devices to monitor in the 'BYOD-era' too. I wish not to limit the number of OS perhaps a generic device with a distro to a personal like is more appealing. Seems to be real.. but there isn't a single bit of info about how it's deployed and how it functions.. It's fairly impossible to say how big the risk is.. On the other hand: installing untrusted stuff of which you don't know what it does is always stupid.. The bot won't get installed by anything else than the end user. Upstream there will be tests and people looking at the code. What the end user does is out of their control. my 2 cents Wouter 2013/8/8 Alain Baudrez a.baud...@gmail.com Is this FUD or a real danger for Linux users? From now until the end of the campaign, *we’re fixing the price of the Ubuntu Edge at $695!* No limited quantities, no more price changes. You wanted a more affordable Edge, and now you’ve got it. How are we able to do this? Mainly thanks to all of you. The huge support the Ubuntu Edge has been receiving from all corners of the world has really sent a message to the mobile industry -- and that message has been received loud and clear. Yesterday we announced that Bloomberg LP has snapped up the first of the $80,000 Enterprise bundles, and we expect more businesses to follow suit. To make it even more appealing, we’ve raised the number of phones included in the bundle from 100 to 115. Even better, since the campaign started breaking records on day one, we’ve been negotiating with several major component suppliers who are keen to see the Edge reach its goal and drive the adoption of new mobile technologies. This is one of the key benefits of keeping some of the core specifications open: as a result of these negotiations, we can now produce the same state-of-the-art device for less than we originally estimated. *Edge for less* So of course we’re passing those savings on to you. There’s now a single unlimited $695 Ubuntu Edge perk, which comes with a year’s subscription to LastPass Premium and a place on the Founders page. At the end of the campaign, anyone who’s already pledged more than $695 for the phone will be offered a refund of the difference. There will be no further price reductions, and we must reiterate that the Ubuntu Edge is exclusive to Indiegogo. It will not be available to buy anywhere outside of this campaign, even at launch. The target is still $32 million, so we will need to ship a few more phones at $695 than we would at a higher price, but we believe we can do it. We have two weeks, and we have the best community out there, so let’s get to work: share this news, get the word out, and let’s get the Ubuntu Edge made! [Ubuntu-be] Linux User Group in Antwerp
Hello everyone I have been thinking for a log time to start some kind of Linux User Group in Antwerp. A couple of days ago a friend brought the idea up again, so I though it was time to do something with it. My idea is just to have a beer, talk about linux and help each other out with their problems. Maybe some workshops / The frequency of the meetups and things like that can all be discussed on a first meeting. I've got a location we can use, hackerspace VoidWarranties in Deurne (Herrystraat 22). The location is free, drinks are sold at a very reasonable price, there is an internet connection, a beamer, Is anyone in to this idea? Please forward this mail if you know other interested people! [Bug 1210270] [NEW] nmbd needs restarted on server reboot
Public bug reported: Ubuntu version = 12.04 samba version = 2:3.6.3-2ubuntu2.6 0 I set up a samba server as a Domain Member Server with AD authentication. It works fine except that when you restart the server samba services do not work and sudo commands hang for ~5min. A little debugging revealed that nmbd needed to be restarted before samba would work and to stop sudo commands from hanging: kfrank@tserver007:~$ time sudo su - root@tserver007:~# smbclient tserver007\\base -U kfrank Enter kfrank's password: session setup failed: NT_STATUS_MORE_PROCESSING_REQUIRED did you forget to run kinit? root@tserver007:~# exit logout real5m29.158s user0m0.220s sys 0m0.292s kfrank@tserver007:~$ I'm not even sure why it is asking me to run a kerberos command. I don't use kerberos in my build. Attached are my smb.conf and level 10 smbd and nmbd log files. I did a little more debugging and if I comment out the wins server line in smb.conf sudo commands don't hang anymore. Unfortunately I need that config to connect to the AD server. This issue kind of relates with https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/596064 which points out that there is a race condition between smbd and nmbd at startup. More specifically that the creation of /var/run/samba wasn't being created before nmbd starts. There's a lot of suggestions and fixes that worked for other people so I spent the better part of today messing around with /etc/init/nmbd.conf in hopes that nmbd would wait for smbd to finish starting up before starting. I've tried changing the start on parameter to start on (started smbd) which didn't result in anything different after a reboot. Also tried adding a mkdir -p /var/run/samba at the very beginning of the pre-start script. This worked in testing and even had it on the production server for a couple of days but after a while the same problem occurred on reboot. Tried it without the -p flag and got the same results. The only thing that has gotten consistent results so far is to add a sleep 1 before the pre-start script begins. Now samba works on reboot and sudo commands don't hang! Only problem is that the sleep command prevents the pid file for nmbd to not be generated. So if I feel like doing anything with the nmbd service I'm SOL. root@tserver007:/etc/init.d# service nmbd stop stop: Unknown job: nmbd root@tserver007:/etc/init.d# service nmbd status status: Unknown job: nmbd root@tserver007:/etc/init.d# service nmbd start start: Unknown job: nmbd root@tserver007:/etc/init.d# service nmbd restart stop: Unknown job: nmbd start: Unknown job: nmbd root@tserver007:/etc/init.d# So I decided to get rid of the sleep command. Currently I just have nmbd restart in rc.local which I know is a bad solution. Please advise on a better one. ** Affects: samba (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: smb.conf.rtf https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1210270/+attachment/3765316/+files/smb.conf.rtf -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to samba in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1210270 Title: nmbd needs restarted on server reboot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/1210270/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1210297] [NEW] nova client hangs for aprox 25 seconds before completing
Public bug reported: Looks like this forum is not well used, but not sure where else to ask this. When I run the nova client I see that it hangs for 25 seconds or so before returning. This is as a specific non-root user. With root (or sudo) this delay/hang is not there and it's not happening for other users either. This is without any options (e.g. nova help). [Bug 1210308] [NEW] Upstart scripts to use /etc/default for options.
Public bug reported: Upstart scripts currently specify command line options for nova programs: $ tail -n 1 /etc/init/nova-compute.conf exec start-stop-daemon --start --chuid nova --exec /usr/bin/nova-compute -- --config-file=/etc/nova/nova.conf --config-file=/etc/nova/nova-compute.conf Specifying --config-file to these programs asserts that Openstack's config package Oslo should not perform directory searching for configs. The expected behavior would be to put these lines into an /etc/default /nova-XXX file. That way, other options could also be passed to the commands without having to directly edit the file in /etc/init. Alternatively, just removing the --config-path options would be OK because Oslo can find config files all over. Oslo lets you provide per-program configs instead of one gigantic nova.conf which can be very helpful (think of the way ubuntu packages apache configs). # lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS Release:12.04 Software versions: nova-api-ec2: 1:2013.1.2-0ubuntu1~cloud0 nova-api-metadata: 1:2013.1.2-0ubuntu1~cloud0 nova-api-os-compute: 1:2013.1.2-0ubuntu1~cloud0 nova-cert: 1:2013.1.2-0ubuntu1~cloud0 nova-compute: 1:2013.1.2-0ubuntu1~cloud0 nova-conductor: 1:2013.1.2-0ubuntu1~cloud0 nova-consoleauth: 1:2013.1.2-0ubuntu1~cloud0 nova-network: 1:2013.1.2-0ubuntu1~cloud0 nova-novncproxy: 1:2013.1.2-0ubuntu1~cloud0 nova-scheduler: 1:2013.1.2-0ubuntu1~cloud0 ** Affects: nova (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: openstack upstart ** Description changed: Upstart scripts currently specify command line options for nova programs: $ tail -n 1 /etc/init/nova-compute.conf exec start-stop-daemon --start --chuid nova --exec /usr/bin/nova-compute -- --config-file=/etc/nova/nova.conf --config-file=/etc/nova/nova-compute.conf Specifying --config-file to these programs asserts that Openstack's config package Oslo should not perform directory searching for configs. Hello Sorry, but I won't be able to install the latest test ISO 1) I'm using LTS 12.04.1, will use this till this version is officially supported and then will replace my old laptop along with the newer version of available ISO then. 2) I have spent too much time and effort on this version to make it run perfectly with minimum resources and up to my liking, formatting this and installing new ISO will waste everything. 3) I can live with Kernel 3.7.10, I just wanted to help the community by pointing to a possible bug in Blue-Tooth which was introduced with Kernel version 3.8.0 when a massive Blue-Tooth update was merged with kernel 3.8.0. Now if others don't want the kernel to be perfect, I can't do anything. Anyways I give up now. [Bug 1209511] [NEW] wpa_supplicant: AP mode support not included in the build
Public bug reported: Since Network Manager now supports internet sharing over a Wi-Fi connection using Access Point (infrastructure) rather than Hotspot (Ad- Hoc) mode, AP support is required in wpa_supplicant. This is absolutely necessary in order to share internet with most new mobile phones. To use this, you need to edit the file for your shared internet connection, located in /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/ and under [802-11-wireless] set mode=ap. If you created a new file and it's not getting picked up, make it root:root, and only rwx to root. Start the connection with nmcli con up id your-connection-name. To see if this is successful, check the syslog. To see if your interface supports AP mode, run iw list. If you have multiple interfaces, it might be necessary to select the right one by adding a mac line. Just set the mac in the nm-applet interface on some other connection, and you'll see how it's set. I tested with a TP-Link TL-WN722N as the interface for AP mode and Samsung Galaxy S4 as client. ** Affects: wpasupplicant (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: access-point accesspoint ap ics sharing -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1209511 Title: wpa_supplicant: AP mode support not included in the build To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/wpasupplicant/+bug/1209511/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1210018] [NEW] Hauppauge NOVA-T500 card does not with Ubuntu on VIA EPIA12000EG motherboard
Public bug reported: I have VIA EPIA12000EG motherboard and Hauppauge NOVA-T500 dual DVB-T tuner PCI card. Internally the NOVA-T500 card has two USB tuners connected to an internal USB hub. For some reason Ubuntu kernel identifies the USB hub as USB1.1 hub when it is USB2.0 hub. The DVB-T cards refuse to work with USB1.1 hub and become inoperable. I have Debian on another disk on the same machine, and Debian kernel (and also Fedora kernel) correctly identifies the USB hub and the tuner cards work. I have also installed Debian kernel package to the Ubuntu system, and if I boot to debian kernel in my Ubuntu system, then the cards work.
