[Bug 968759] Re: adobe-flashplugin 11.2.202.228-0lucid1freezes firefox display - crashes some webkit programs (depends on cpu)
Hopefully, Marius. This despotic attitude of Adobe people is simply disgusting, as it's showing here. BTW, why "Fix Released" in Debian? Trying to crack a good joke?? NO FIX WAS EVER RELEASED. Period. Bart was right that the Debian people cannot do anything about it, as "upstream ain't giving a damn" as pointed out so verbosely (and correctly) above by Rafal. As Flash is closed source, it would have to be done by Adobe themselves...OR...by some genius who knows about reverse engineering (disassemble everything and kickout all SSE2 shit). But knowing how big these files are, this may become a 1-year job... *** WARNING *** UNOFFICIAL *** Back in 2012, I decided to put up a Debian package back in 2013, and I stll get an insanely lot of download requests each week for it (even though I have never pestered any distro teams directly that they should include it) http://www65.zippyshare.com/v/78802631/file.html Install it, and it will work OOTB on any non-SSE2 machine. [Bug 658960] Re: add "sudo" before apt-get autoremove in warning
>Use 'apt-get autoremove' to remove them. >while it should give the warning as >Use 'sudo apt-get autoremove' to remove them It NOT that simple. There should be made a case decision: - Are we really sudo'ing? - Are we working directly under root, i. e. the shell with the hash prompt? In the latter case, a 'sudo' would be total nonsense. [Bug 1543919] [NEW] (Wishlist) Remove EISA support from main kernel image and make it M (modular)?
Public bug reported: (This is a sort of RfC. ) I have a PC that still has the good old PCI ports, but I am 100% sure that the active use of EISA dates back yet more 10 years. In other words, boards that _only_ support EISA date back 25 years now, while those that provide *one* EISA slot date back roughly 15 years (one of the Elitegroup K7 series comes to mind, from about 2001/02). So the EISA support *should* be provided, as we should even support ancient hardware (Linux principle :)) However, why the EISA support is *compiled in* is beyond me. For instance, it creates lots of totally unnecessary noise in dmesg: [0.08] EISA bus registered [1.598316] platform eisa.0: Probing EISA bus 0 [1.598345] platform eisa.0: Cannot allocate resource for EISA slot 1 (repeated 10 times, i=i+1) [1.598368] platform eisa.0: EISA: Detected 0 cards For a 1997 mainboard, this would make perfect sense. But it is very probable that said mainboard would require linux-image-extra nonetheless to support some days-of-yore chipset. So why not leave it as a *module*, while removing its support from main kernel image once and for all? Your turn. ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1543919 Title: (Wishlist) Remove EISA support from main kernel image and make it M (modular)? Nothing to do ?? I beg to differ! kernel.org #111901 is a kind of RfC whether CRS usage with old hardware should be levitated or whether users are---even in future---entitled to boot their < 4.4.0 kernels with pci=nocrs. Besides, about your "fixed upstream": I think it was entirely accidental. Something got modified in PCI handling, and abracadabra, it made old hardware work again. [Bug 1540715] [NEW] scrot not working via hotkey if drop-down menu of source window is activated
Public bug reported: I've just discovered this bug when I was (desperately) trying to document an issue in gedit which showed here a certain drop-down menu as blank, no menu items. scrot ALWAYS goes on strike when you have hotkey set to PrtSc (for example) and you want to document a bug in a window. So in that source window, you would show the dropped-down menu, and THEN hit the hotkey for scrot. Result: Nothing. You can almost bet your life on it that once you retract the drop-down menu (i. e. so that it doesn't show), scrot via hotkey will work fine again. Proved easily by polling my $HOME for new files. [Bug 1537895] [NEW] Please include poppler-glib-demo tool in standard package
Public bug reported: I'm having an occasional issue with evince, and since the issue is clearly related to the PDF engine underneath which it uses (*this), I got a tip to run a PDF directly with 'poppler-glib-demo' in the 'poppler-demos' package. However, this tip was NOT suitable for Ubuntu, as there is nothing like a 'poppler-demos' package, but the whole package structure is different. So this is one more for the wishlist. poppler-glib-demo is not just a demo for developers, but will also show errors that evince may be blamed for (for no reason at all). evince simply uses lots of things under the hood, and one of them is poppler for PDF rendering. ISTR that our Fedora colleagues do have this tool compiled in binary form and included in the package. As I think it might be pretty useful for bug-hunting, I'd ask you kindly to no longer do without it when building the Ubuntu poppler package. Thanks for considering. ** Affects: poppler (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Description changed: I'm having an occasional issue with evince, and since the issue is clearly related to the PDF engine underneath which it uses (*this), I got a tip to run a PDF directly with 'poppler-glib-demo' in the 'poppler-demos' package. [Bug 1510364] Re: LXpanel might auto-restart when RMB is pressed and mouse cursor is below or at task pane
"Ubuntu is essentially Debian Unstable, so you'd want to complain to their packagers." HAHA, I love that phrase, especially the first half! :) YMMD Seriously though, no problem. 1. "Upstream" would have been an idea, but I haven't found anything lxde/lxpanel related on GNOME Bugzilla. Pretty sure I was at the wrong place... 2. The version I compiled is this here: http://git.lxde.org/gitweb/?p=lxde/lxpanel.git;a=summary And again, I can't but agree with you that you MAY have to ask for it because of being unable to find it on your own. Everything is so abysmally documented... I had to google quite a bit until I found that repo I *actually* wanted. The Github repo (https://github.com/lxde) will lead you totally up the garden path, because there will be no lxpanel for you, just lots of lxQt stuff. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1510364 Title: LXpanel might auto-restart when RMB is pressed and mouse cursor is below or at task pane To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lxpanel/+bug/1510364/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1510364] [NEW] LXpanel might auto-restart when RMB is pressed and mouse cursor is below task pane
Public bug reported: This is not easy to explain, but it can be reproduced. Running Lubuntu Wily FINAL with lxpanel 0.8.1-1ubuntu2 . Reproduction of the bug: - Have Task Bar at bottom. If you haven't, set it to screen bottom at first. - Make sure you have a few task items, i. e. programs running. Task bar must not be empty! - Place mouse pointer over one of the task tabs and press RIGHT mouse button. (expected) * You ought to get the small Raise, Restore, Maximise, Minimise ... popup menu (actual, sometimes) * Instead of displaying the menu, LXpanel might... ** do nothing at all ** or, auto-reset. That is, lxpanel is SILENTLY restarted. It will disapear from desktop, and then reappear, re-initializing itself. In 'top', I can see that task is gracefully (!) ended and restarted. No crash reporter is triggered. /var/crash is empty. If you cannot reproduce the bug, try to click BELOW the task pane, on the very bottom margin of the task tabs. It's strange: sometimes you can reproduce the bug by right-clicking directly on the tab; another time it will only trigger if you click around on the very bottom on the task pane. (Either I am wanting some perception, or this has really never happened in v0.7.2. (comment 7) I can't believe it! [Bug 1431414] [NEW] For creating launchers, PcManFM relies on xfce4-panel, while LXDE uses lxpanel
Public bug reported: First of all, I do not really know whether ths is a PCManFM issue at all...maybe it's distro-specific enough to blame the individual packagers... Minor issue, no big deal. Reproduction: - Preferably use LXDE/Openbox (which is the default on Lubuntu here) - Launch PCManFM - Type menu:// into the address bar in PCManFm (You will end up in menu://applications/ .) - Visit a folder, e. g. Internet. - Click RIGHT mouse button, and say Open With - Create Launcher on the panel. Result: It does not work. It complains about no running instance of xfce4-panel found. Well, what we use is lxpanel, not xfce4-panel. These are two entirely different pairs of socks, or more exactly: they're even mutually exclusive. AFAIK you cannot (nor should) run them simultaneously. ** Affects: pcmanfm (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: desktop link lxde lxpanel xfce4-panel ** Description changed: First of all, I do not really know whether ths is a PCManFM issue at all...maybe it's distro-specific enough to blame the individual packagers... [Bug 1300215] Re: Failed to open VDPAU backend libvdpau_i965.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

[Bug 1393067] Re: totem 3.14
I hope you will soon. Current totem is horrid, feels like a software for total illiterates. Everything feels so crippled: no more split screen w/playlist, only most basic preferences and - worse - no menu bar at all. And 3.15.x doesn't even start here on Vivid, but just segfaults. [Bug 1376051] Re: gpartedbin crashed with SIGABRT in g_assertion_message()
Bingo, because I can confirm FOR SURE that 0.19.0-1-ubuntu1 does NOT include the fix for this _critical_ bug here at all! Left to say, I'm sick and tired of finding the 0.19.0somethingbuildsomething crap everywhere. *It* *is* *simply* *unuseable*. Full stop. I had to move my butt to ubuntuupdates.org to get the 0.19.1 release, which works great, but is virtually unavailable elsewhere. The same I can also recommend to you desperate users, for the waiting is really a little bit too long now. How long are we still supposed to wait? Spring 2015 ?? This has nothing to do with impatience; the bug described in #1376051 is *SO* critical that I have to revert to 0.18.x otherwise. PPA sometimes feels like a home for the elderly recently, needing dozens of nudges to get things going there... Plus, a lot of those PPAs you'd find there are already available in the *standard* distros. However, people would usually move over to PPA to find packages *NOT YET* in distros. When one finds greatly the very same stuff in there again, there is no point of having a PPA to your disposal. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1376051 Title: gpartedbin crashed with SIGABRT in g_assertion_message() To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gparted/+bug/1376051/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1376051] Re: gpartedbin crashed with SIGABRT in g_assertion_message()
OK...I take it back... The actual reason was that IDIOTIC and illogical naming. I will never understand why a _fully published_ version of gparted in Utopic is called 0.19.0-1___build___1 and your still somewhat unofficial PPA-only version is called 0.19.0-1-___ubuntu___1. Normally, the x.yy.z-p-ubuntuQ naming ought to be used for releases that are in the *standard* distribution, and not the PPA. It is always way better to indicate certain builds of packages coming from a PPA by using an appropriate filename (at least not the above one, that's for sure). So JFTR, at the moment, 0.19.0-1build1 is the (non-working, crap) version shipped with Utopic, whilst 0.19.0-1ubuntu1 is the (working) PPA version. Just to get this clear for further readers running into this extremely time-consuming problem. BTW sorry for the rude tone, but I've really wasted way too much pointless time with this stuff now, and that---may I quote the description---so-called minor regression. I'd burst out laughing, if it wasn't so pathetic...? That oh-so minor regression will be enough for me for months again... Mind you all of you, essential tools with little bugs and essential tools that do not run at all is not quite the same thing... Lastly: YES 0.19.0-1ubuntu1 is the first version that works again since 0.18.x. Good Lord...don't get me started about the QA here therefore...

[Bug 1364630] Re: init: Error while reading from descriptor: Broken pipe
Wish I knew *WHERE* this error while reading message comes from! init can mean quite a lot. On Ubuntu flavors, /sbin/init is actually init from upstart package. But just FWIW, I've grep'd recursively (-ir) for both broken pipe and error while reading messages. None there. So this init: Error while... must come from the kernel itself. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1364630 Title: init: Error while reading from descriptor: Broken pipe To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-304/+bug/1364630/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1364630] Re: init: Error while reading from descriptor: Broken pipe
Wait... Found a match on this error message in 'io.c' which is part of libnih, which on its part is needed by /sbin/init. So if anyone wants to debug the reason of this, he should start debugging libnih (even adding a printf will do to see what's going on) and check what (illegal?) parameter is fed into it.
