Re: [Bug 1771880] Re: Seahorse unable to import pkcs12 certificates

2022-02-01 Thread Angelo Giacomini Ribas
I reported this bug 4 years ago.
I'm a lawyer, and I depend on digital certificates and signatures to do my
job. From 2012 to 2017 I had no problem doing that using Ubuntu/Seahorse.
However, since upgraded to Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, found no linux distribution
able to import pcks12 certificates anymore. Since then, had been forced to
use Windows (dual boot) just to sign digital files.

I simply cannot understand how Seahorse developers have been ignoring such
critical and serious issue for such a long time. No one can blame the world
to stick with MS Windows and proprietary software.

I still using linux (currently Fedora) but have to spend a huge stake of my
SSD with a Windows 10 instalation because Linux distributions are unable
to deal with pcks12 certificates since 2018.

Sad, very sad. I gave up my hope of seeing this bug fixed. Waiting for 4
years now.

Red Hat corporate customers doesn't need to import pcks12 certificates? It
seems that they don't, unfortunately.

[Bug 1946911] [NEW] gdm3 cannot login to plasma wayland on nvidia 470.63.01

2021-10-12 Thread Luiz Angelo Daros de Luca
Public bug reported:

Hello,

My KDE wayland session does work if I launch it from CLI using
startplasma-wayland.
However, when I login from gdm3, I got some form of session crashes and I am
back to gdm3 screen a couple of seconds after I inform my password.

The X11 session is working as expected. The weirdest thing is that
"plasma wayland from gdm3" will work after I log, at least once in that
system uptime, to a plasma-x11 session. Something like this:

system boot
log to plasma (wayland) from gdm3
after some screen blinks, I'm back to gdm3
log to plasma (wayland) from gdm3
after some screen blinks, I'm back to gdm3
log to plasma (wayland) from gdm3
after some screen blinks, I'm back to gdm3
log to plasma (x11) from gdm3
session is good
logout
log to plasma (wayland) from gdm3
session is good

It looks like "plasma x11" left something configured/running that allows
a following wayland session to run.

[Bug 1873167] [NEW] konsole restored at login does not accept accent input

2020-04-16 Thread Luiz Angelo Daros de Luca
Public bug reported:

Hello,

I have "Restore previous session" set to reopen the same programs from
the previous session on login. When this process open a konsole, I
cannot type accent lettters (áãó...) but I can type any other ky
specific to my layout (including 'ç' and any 'alt gr' variations). If I
close this konsole and open it again, it simply works as expected.

It might not be konsole specific but it might happen with it because it
can open shortly after login is done (and maybe before something needed
is started).

[Bug 1857099] [NEW] strerror_r used as non-portable format

2019-12-19 Thread Luiz Angelo Daros de Luca
Public bug reported:

I got a elfutils-0.178

glibc provides two different signatures for strerror_r. One is GNU-specific and
it is not portable.
The other is

   int strerror_r(int errnum, char *buf, size_t buflen);
   /* XSI-compliant */

   char *strerror_r(int errnum, char *buf, size_t buflen);
   /* GNU-specific */

man strerror(3) says:

The XSI-compliant strerror_r() is preferred for portable
applications. It returns the error string in the user-supplied buffer
buf of length buflen.

musl implements strerror_r as XSI-compliant version while elfutils uses
GNU-specific variant.

The solution should not simply ignore strerror_r return value as it
would break build when -Werror=unused-result is set.

An alternative is to do something like:
https://github.com/luizluca/openwrt/blob/a79698fefdd9dacb84865c870bf75aee978c005d/package/libs/elfutils/patches/100

[Bug 1837244] [NEW] grub installation at sda1 crashed after about 80% installation process

2019-07-19 Thread Angelo Morsiquillo
Public bug reported:

Grub could have probably crashed because I'm using a Solid State Drive
formatted using GPT. When I was asked by the Installer to provide
another partition for efi, I modified the 1st partition to provide 500
MB and another about 4GB, then I formatted the 500 MB with ext4 assigned
to be the efi partition, accordingly GRUB failed so I have to go back to
partitioning, and I formatted the 500 MB partition to fat32 and again
GRUB failed to install at it, what about if I try not to format it at
all. This seemed to be not a problem when I installed Ubuntu in my
laptop using BIOS, not efi, and MBR instead of GPT, and SATA instead of
SSD.

[Bug 1771880] Re: Seahorse unable to import pkcs12 certificates

2019-07-10 Thread Angelo Giacomini Ribas
Well, after filling the report on GitLab, as suggested in comment #15, I
receive the following statement from there:

 Andre Klapper  @aklapper · 14 hours ago
Developer

You are using a version that is too old and not supported anymore by
GNOME developers. GNOME developers are no longer working on that
version, so unfortunately there will not be any bug fixes by GNOME
developers for the version that you use.

By upgrading to a newer version of GNOME you could receive bug fixes and
new functionality. You may need to upgrade your Linux distribution to
obtain a newer version of GNOME.

Please feel free to reopen this bug report if the problem still occurs
with a recent version of GNOME (3.32), or feel free to report this bug
in the bug tracking system of your Linux distribution if your
distribution still supports the version that you are using.

---

I may well be wrong (I'm a lawyer, not a developer) but I understand
that this issue is an "Ubuntu bug" not a "GNOME bug", as it apparently
just happens in Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, which is supposed to be supported for
5 years until April 2023. Nevertheless, the solution was marked herea
mere "wishlist".

I assume no one will spend time trying to fix it, despite de lifespan support
of Ubuntu 18.04
LTS is supposed to last 4 years more. That's sad!

[Bug 1771880] Re: Seahorse unable to import pkcs12 certificates

2019-07-09 Thread Angelo Giacomini Ribas
As suggested in post #15, I just filled a bug report on GitLab:
, however, as I have
my doubts if it is really an upstream bug, as it didn't occur on Ubuntu
16.04, just on Ubuntu 18.04, and some users reported that in Debian it
works.

Hope anyone will be able (and willing) to fix it.

[Bug 1771880] Re: Seahorse unable to import pkcs12 certificates

2019-04-11 Thread Angelo Giacomini Ribas
As I've explained in the Bug Description, before filling this bug, I'd
tested the same process in my wife's laptop then with 'Ubuntu 16.04 LTS'
and it imported the certificates ('.cer' and '.p12') without issues. But
in my laptop with 'Ubuntu 18.04 LTS' the problem exist (greyed button).

Therefore, there are two possibilities: 1) I'm mad or a liar; or 2) the
statement on comment #15 is wrong.

I may well be mad, but not a liar! But the experiences described on
comments #21 and #24 corroborate to the second possibility, i.e., that
the statement on comment #15 is wrong.

thanks for confirmation.

It is a pity that ROOT has been removed (consider that CERNLIB, whose
development was stopped in the 2003, is still there...).

Thanks and Happy New Year,
 Angelo.

ROOT packages not found on bionic

2018-12-31 Thread Angelo Graziosi
It seems that upgrading from Mint 18 (xenial) to 19 (bionic) one loses ROOT
packages (root-system). Does that mean than from bionic onwards one has to
build ROOT directly from CERN sources?

May you confirm? WHY this occurred? Just out of curiosity...

Angelo,
  Thanks.

[Bug 1686837] Re: ubuntu fails to boot with btrfs root (unable to mount root)

2018-07-02 Thread Luiz Angelo Daros de Luca
Shelby,

It is something related to timing or something that is not correctly
initialized.
I have not seen the problem for sometime now. I'm using 18.04. Did you test it?

I don't know if it is fixed or not in recent releases. Maybe it's just
that something changed that misaligned the planets needed to this bug to
happen.

Did you try to unplug/swap USB devices?

[Bug 1770176] Re: Ubuntu 18.04 - NetworkManager menu items in top right menu behaves very strange.

2018-05-29 Thread Luiz Angelo Daros de Luca
Some follow-up.

My wifi is disabled by default.

Even being able to connect to an OpenVPN, the menu is not able to
disconnect an OpenVPN connection (as it does not know it was up).

As the reporter, I can only see the correct status using gnome setting.
There I can enable/disable wifi, list wifi hotspots, connect to them,
enable/disable OpenVPN, etc. And there, it also shows the correct visual
feedback. The problem is only with the menu.

[Bug 1770176] Re: Ubuntu 18.04 - NetworkManager menu items in top right menu behaves very strange.

2018-05-29 Thread Luiz Angelo Daros de Luca
Same here. I'm using lang pt_BR. I upgraded from 17.10.

There is no text in the gnome top menu item which open the wired
connections. Translation issues?

The menu does not list any wireless settings/connection as if I had no
wireless adapter. I do and it list and works when I use nmcli.

OpenVPN items list correctly. When I click on any connection, it does
connect correctly. However, the switch button in gnome menu is never on
and there is no visual clue that something happened. Again, nmcli is
simply correct.

Maybe it is related to OpenVPN presence?

PROBLEM
After login the desktop was empty (no more menus).

GUESS
I thought that package was the problem but google doesn't think so.

SOLUTION
I had to CTRL+ALT+F1, do some magic I don't understand and fixed it
accidentally.
* DISPLAY=:0 sudo startx //idk what this does but it's good stuff
* CTRL+ALT+F7
* create a temp folder on the desktop
* CTRL+ALT+F1
* stop the "startx"
* rm .Xauthority //this kills the login loop problem
* exit
* CTRL+ALT+F7
* login, finally

QUESTION
Can you please enlighten me on what PROBLEM happened ?

[Bug 1727662] Re: [Lenovo ThinkPad T450s] Issues after docking and locking: [drm:intel_cpu_fifo_underrun_irq_handler [i915]] *ERROR* CPU pipe A FIFO underrun

2018-01-23 Thread Angelo Lisco
Hi Alexander. Thanks for your bug report and all your effort to troubleshoot
and fix this weird issue.
I'm not using any docking station but I'm experiencing the same behaviour
(screen flickering and unable to lock my screen) here on a Lenovo T450s with a
Intel HD Graphics 5500 (Broadwell GT2) GPU.
It happens both with Ubuntu 17.10 and Fedora (26 and 27) so i'm so I suppose
that's a weird bug in the intel driver.
Did you find any workaround or fix?

[Bug 1550779] Re: [i915]] *ERROR* CPU pipe A FIFO underrun - Xorg glitches

2018-01-23 Thread Angelo Lisco
Same issue here on a Lenovo T450s with a Intel HD Graphics 5500 (Broadwell GT2)
GPU. It happens both with Ubuntu 16.04 and Fedora (26 and 27) so I suppose
that's a weird bug in the intel driver.
It also happens sometimes without any external monitor when I leave my notebook
powered up during the night: in the moring my gdm lock screen flickers and I'm
unable to login into my session.
Has someone found a workaround or a fix?

[Bug 1702961] Re: Intel wifi instability with 4.10 and Intel Device 24fd

2017-11-15 Thread Angelo Corsaro
I installed, as test, the latest version of the kernel from

kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.14/linux-
image-4.14.0-041400-generic_4.14.0-041400.201711122031_amd64.deb

just to figure out if the issue is related to the kernel or to the
firmware of the card and I got the same error:

The workaround

 does not work for all.
For me the VPN PPTP stopped work since Ubuntu 16.04 please fix this issue. The
settings I received from my organization are:

Typ VPN : Point to Point tunneling protocol (PPTP)
VPN server: example.server.net
TCP port: 1723

[Bug 1710484] [NEW] Bluetooth mouse after suspend

2017-08-13 Thread Angelo Stanco
Public bug reported:

I have my computer set to when I close my lid it suspends the system.
When opening the lid after a suspend, my bluetooth mouse does not work.
I need to cycle through the Connection, by turning it to off and then
back to on. This refreshes the mouse and it then works.

Is there a way for this cycle to happen after a suspend automatically so
that users with bluetooth mice dont have to manually cycle through the
connection.

2017-07-17 Thread Luiz Angelo Daros de Luca
I found out that it wasn't the fact that I changed root=UUID=... that
workaround the bug but the fact that I edited grub. It does not matter
if I change or not settings. Just open the built-in editor and let it
boot.

[Bug 1686837] Re: ubuntu fails to boot with btrfs root (unable to mount root)

2017-05-22 Thread Luiz Angelo Daros de Luca
I got again the same bug problem even still on 4.11.0-041100rc8-generic.
It keeps failing even after a reboot. Again, I just changed root=UUID=...
to root=/dev/sda6 and the system booted nicely.

I'll attach a photo of the screen.

It looks like two dumpstacks (interrupt during panic?)

The error msg is:

VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0)

I guess the main stack is:

dump_stack
panic
mount_block_root
? set_debug_rodata
prepare_namespace
kernel_init_fresable
? rest_init
kernel_init
ret_from_fork

[Bug 1686837] Re: ubuntu fails to boot with btrfs root (unable to mount root)

2017-05-04 Thread Luiz Angelo Daros de Luca
I'm running now with 4.11.0-041100rc8-generic and until now, I was not
able to reproduce the problem. Before using the upstream kernel, it was
very frequent for me, happening after every reboot (and requiring me to
boot rescue before a normal boot). It's very probable that upstream
kernel is not affected.

I updated the status and added the tag as requested. If I hit this
problem again in the future, I'll make sure to update it back here.

I can also test fixes if needed.

[Bug 1686837] [NEW] ubuntu fails to boot with btrfs root (unable to mount root)

2017-04-27 Thread Luiz Angelo Daros de Luca
Public bug reported:

Hello,

Failing to mount / as btrfs has been haunting btrfs users on ubuntu for
some time. Coming and going with kernel updates.

After I upgraded to 17.04, it seems that the problem is back.

It seems that a non-clean umount reboot always leads to a non-bootable system.
If I boot into rescue (selecting in grub, not a livecd), kernel can find the
root partition. I can also boot normally if root=... kernel parameter is set
with the device name (/dev/sda6) instead of UUID=.
So, there might be a bug in kernel that does not allow linux to identify the
boot partition using UUID in some circumstances (probably after a dirt reboot).

Maybe other distros do some magic at initrd that cleans the btrfs
problem because some, like opensuse, do uses btrfs as default root fs.
Anyway, even ubuntu own rescue can boot normally.

This is a tricky bug to debug as I get no logs written and no emergency
shell. Just an ugly kernel error and a backstack.

[Bug 1609700] Re: username is not saved in openconnect connection dialog

2017-02-15 Thread Tomas Angelo
On Ubuntu 16.04 LTS I solved this by installing the latest package from
zesty

http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywords=network-
manager=names=all=all

http://packages.ubuntu.com/zesty/amd64/network-manager/download

sudo synaptic
Settings -> Repositories

Tab Other Software
Click on Add
deb http://sk.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu zesty main

Now refresh packages and type network-manager to search, select (only)
that package and press CTRL+E (for choosing version of package) and
select latest from zesty.

NOTICE: After upgrading network-manager package I recommend to disable
this repository, because probably you do not want to mixture your system
with various different packages that can affect stability of your
system.

[Bug 1451265] Re: dirty reboot always results in unbootable system if root is btrfs

2016-09-28 Thread Luiz Angelo Daros de Luca
The bug came back today with 16.04 (fully updated just yesterday).
Kernel always failed with the "unable to mount root" BT on multiple
could boot attempts.

Again, I needed to boot with a livecd in order to be able to boot my
machine again. I only runned btrfs check with no "--repair" and not
error was shown. I mounted it, unmounted and rebooted. After that,
system booted normally. It seems that btrfs "recovery itself" on boot,
with the simple "btrfs check" or with the mount.

It seems that btrfs is able to recover but maybe the kernel could not
find the FS. My system defines root in kernel cmdline as
root=UUID=9051c9b6-070c-443a-8f8f-f7c23c1b01c6. Maybe a dirty btrfs can
mess with kernel procedure to list FS by UUID?

[Bug 1599360] [NEW] wireless device is detected as wired on boot

2016-07-05 Thread Luiz Angelo Daros de Luca
Public bug reported:

Hello,

On every boot since install, my wireless card is listed on network
manager as a wired one. If I switch it on and off, it is correctly
detected.

It is a vintage asus eeepc 701 with a atheros wireless.

This is an example of rfkill after switch wireless off and on using
keyboard shortcut:

luizluca@brinquedinho:~$ rfkill list

luizluca@brinquedinho:~$ rfkill list

[Bug 736743] Re: environment block not implemented on btrfs

2016-06-09 Thread Luiz Angelo Daros de Luca
Not really. The issue is still present on trusty.

If your /boot is a btrfs, grub2 does not know how to save its env.

In order to reproduce:

While on grub menu, press c
Type: save_env xxx

Disabling GRUB_SAVEDEFAULT just disables the feature that needs
save_env. It is not a fix.

[Bug 1490555] Re: davfs2 downloads same file over and over

2016-03-23 Thread Angelo Machils
I've tried on an Arch based system, which has version davfs2 1.5.2-1 and
the issue is still there. After a while the WebDAV mount slows
everything down that has anything to do with opening files and/or
directories, so Nautilus, but also opening files within applications.
I've looked around a little and it seems that this problem has been
around for years now.

I think this is somewhat a bug, but included ubuntu-users ml address this time

You can find a screenshot attached. Pressing "Ctrl+Esc" does nothing.
If I set the shortcut to "Ctrl+Alt+M" it works.

Cannot set "Ctrl+Esc" as shortcut for gnome-system-monitor

2016-02-23 Thread Angelo Compagnucci
Dear All,

I cannot set "Ctrl+Esc" as shortcut for gnome-system-monitor, or at
least I can set that shortcut, but it doesn't work in practice.

There is an easy way to have a sensible shortcut for
gnome-system-monitor like other operating systems are doing?

Please don't say me that I have to use alt+f2, or use a shortcut like
Ctrl+Alt+M, it's insane!

Sincerely, Angelo

[Bug 1242300] Re: Clang cannot locate standard header files

2015-12-27 Thread Tomas Angelo
In Ubuntu 14.04 LTS I installed Clang 3.7 after adding new official
repository from http://llvm.org/apt/

Then based on this thread:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/428198/getting-installing-gcc-g-4-9-on-ubuntu/456849#456849
I tried backport the latest packages

I add ppa repository:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-toolchain-r/test

Refreshed my repositories:
sudo apt-get update

And finally installed (ideally) latest toolchain:
sudo apt-get install g++-5

Everything works fine when compiling as follows:
clang++-3.7 -std=c++14 main.cpp

What I left unresolved is using choose of default compiler. But more
information can be found in thread: http://askubuntu.com/questions/26498
/choose-gcc-and-g-version

[Bug 736743] Re: environment block not implemented on btrfs

2015-12-12 Thread Luiz Angelo Daros de Luca
* grub does not write to btrfs because of its checksum/cow stuff.
* btrfs is aware but doesn't seems to care as it says on its FAQ: "grub needs
btrfs to support a reserved area" (and not "btrfs needs to implement reserved
area")
* ubuntu is hit by this problem for years but it is something for either grub
or btrfs to solve.

I love this "Somebody else's problem" way to deal with complicated
problems...

Both grub and btrfs devs seems to not want to fix this problem by
themselves as it is not a problem that hit them directly. Only distros
that glue them together that face this problem. So, a distro or a
"volunteer expert devel user" (that's not me) might be the one that
proposes the fix.

SLES and OpenSuSE already uses btrfs rootfs for some time. Does it mean
that grub-once simply does not work with them (and they are fine with
it)?

I'm no Btrfs nor grub specialist but it is difficult to understand why
is to difficult to write 1k from grub in today's multi TB disks...

Thinking about btrfs:

Btrfs already support nodatacow for a single file (chattr +C). Probably
this is not enough but a little more might be.

If nodatacow files does not use checksum, one more problem is solved. If
not, maybe it is the case to implement a "chattr +K" for "disable
checksum for file". Some metadata like ctime/mtime would be out-of-sync
but this is a minor issue.

For snapshots, it deals with nodatacow file doing a one-time cow (it
increases the reference count). Again, a new "chattr +n" for "duplicate
file blocks on snapshot" would keep the file block dedicated for that
"copy" (duplicating data). An alternative would be grub checking the
"reference count" of grubenv and avoid a write if >1. In a "best
effort", ubuntu should duplicate the grubenv file whenever its
"reference count" is >1 on shutdown.

Maybe all too complicated...

Thinking about grub:

In old disk format, where the first partition starts at sector 63, I
guess it is already difficult to have btrfs support in grub. The last
time I tried, it failed to write all needed modules. So, writing to
btrfs is the last problem to deal as there is no space even for reading
btrfs. For new partitions, grub has plenty of space as the first
partition starts at sector 2048. In this case, grub do have a spare 1k
in 1M of space. So, load_env could accept an alternative storage
location based on blocks or just after the last module. This might be
easier than write to any FS out there. The only problem is that grub-
editenv would need to write directly to the block device. This solution
is ideal as it might solve all FS write problems related to load_env
(and not only for btrfs).

And, for the record, include me in the "me too"s list of affected
people.

[Bug 1390767] Re: trying to overwrite shared '/usr/share/man/man1/freetype-config.1.gz', which is different from other instances of package libfreetype6-dev:i386

2015-09-01 Thread Angelo
Here's a workaround, but I'm pretty sure this breaks the manpages in one
way or another:

$ sudo mv /usr/share/man/man1/freetype-config.1.gz /usr/share/man/man1
/freetype-config.1.amd64.gz

Bug description:
  [Impact]
An update to the lts-vivid backported kernel (3.19.0-26) in Trusty and
to the default kernel in Vivid, pulled in a commit that made
pci_ignore_hotplug() GPL only. As a result, the DKMS module fails.

  [Test Case]
Install the new packages and check that DKMS doesn't fail.

  [Regression Potential]
Low, the patches are already included wily.
