[Bug 528720] Re: Keyboard stuck with irqbalance

2010-06-03 Thread Bert Claes
Thanks, I had the same problem, this worked for me. I removed
irqbalance.

I didn't had the problem with Ubuntu 9.10 too, just with Ubuntu 10.4.
I have an Asus P4S800 motherboard.

[Bug 522091] Re: keyboard freezes with kernel 2.6.32-13

2010-05-05 Thread Bert Claes
@ktp
Yes, I've got the same behaviour.
I've got a PS/2 mouse and PS/2 keyboard standard connected to my desktop
computer. When the computer freezes at the login screen, a newly connected USB
keyboard did work, for just a few more letters of my password, but did freeze
too.
(a newly connected USB mouse worked too, after a PS/2 mouse-freeze)
I do not use this ppa, I just have a fresh installation of Ubuntu 10.4

[Bug 522091] Re: keyboard freezes with kernel 2.6.32-13

2010-05-04 Thread Bert Claes
@ktp
Thanks for the info. but since I downloaded the nvidea proprietary driver, I
don't even have time to log in the normal way. I just have 2 seconds before
the computer freezes (typing, moving the mouse or doing nothing). If I log in
to the console, and use the command I get the message xmodmap: unable to open
display ' ' .

I don't thing it has anything to do with X or with the keyboard.
If I use the recovery mode and then..
a) normal boot, login in console, no X: I get the problems after a minute
b) root console, no X: everythings ok (can start gdm, gnome, everything).

[Bug 364530] Re: keyboard and mouse freeze after login

2010-05-01 Thread Bert Claes
I just installed Ubuntu 10.04 (32 bit) to a clean harddisk and have the same
problem.
I didn't have the problem with Ubuntu 9.10.

When I start linux, the login screen starts..
sometimes..
- if I wait a few minutes (without typing or moving the mouse) the computer
freezes
- if I type my password, it looks like a key is constantly being pressed, and
the computer freezes
- if I log in fast enough, and wait a while, gnome freezes with just the
desktop loaded or with a key constantly being pressed.
.. but always one of the three.

* I used a PS/2 keybmouse, and an USB keybmouse, and had the same problem.
* Without keyboard, I still have the same problem with the mouse.
* I disabled the wireless network drivers.
* chose in the installation for an encrypted, and later an unencrypted
homefolder, still had the same problem

But..
When I use, in GRUB, the recovery mode, and use the root shell, I don't have
any problems.
I can use the startx command to start gnome. Firefox works, Nautilus works.

[Bug 454234] Re: eel_preferences_get_boolean: assertion `preferences_is_initialized ()' failed

2010-02-16 Thread Bert Claes
I have the same error:

I downloaded the opera browser to test (I rather prefer an open source
browser) from the opera-website in Firefox.

I chose open with GDebi Package installer for the
opera_10.10.4742.gcc4.qt3_i386.deb file, and not save file..
after a while, the package installer said, file not found anymore or
something like that
After that I got the nautilus problems.

First I got the
(nautilus:2632): Eel-CRITICAL **: eel_preferences_get_boolean: assertion
`preferences_is_initialized ()' failed
error

After the Erez Volk's PPA (didn't work for me):

Not for personal use, we can only order them as a LoCoTeam (or a LUG or

I think ordering them together is much better cheaper anyway (both for
us and for the German LoCoTeam people doing the work).

[Ubuntu-be] Obtaining install cd's

2008-01-21 Thread Bert Claes
hi everyone,

I've registered myself as an Ubunut support-point, where one can also obtain
installation-cd's. It seems I am located in an area where there wasn't
anyone yet (centre of sint-niklaas), because I've gotten about seven
requests already for install-cd's or some explanation.

What I was wondering:

Is there any way I can get more official install-cds or should I just (as I
am doing now) keep on giving out CD-Rs of DVD-Rs with the downloaded ISOs?
It seems so fake :)

Is there a guideline on how to promote Ubuntu for a casual end-user? I am
just wondering...

Much regards

Bert Claes

[Ubuntu-be] Cd-roms Ubuntu 7.10

2007-11-15 Thread Bert Claes

 hey allen,

Re: [Ubuntu-be] Bad news for Belgian People

2007-10-29 Thread Bert Claes
During investigating concerning bundled purchases, I have contacted Service
public Fédéral Economie, PME, Classes Moyennes et Energie - Protection des
droits des consommateurs, the consumer watchdogs and I asked them about
PC-sales coupled with MS windows,

I copied the generic part of their response:

1. Article 55 of the law on commercial practices [...] authorises a conjoint
offer at a global price of goods that form an ensemble. The notion of an
ensemble is difficult to define, because it refers to commercial usages.
The parlementary works have precised that this notion has to be interpreted
on a rather large way. The only question is whether or not the services are
relevant concerning the same bussiness activity.
The uses of the IT sector are such that is is a habit of selling a pc with
different programs or OS'es on it. The fact that you can buy a PC without an
OS or an OS without a pc, is not relevant.

2. The seller is free to establish his own commercial politics an to choose
the type of products he offers to sell. It is up to the consumer to accept
or not.

3. If
the seller accepts to remove the program to sell a pc without
programmes, he can charge for this intervention.

cEd

So, the Belgium government can't force anything.
The best thing you can do is to buy from small bussiness and not the big
ones (not until they start offering Linux on their pc's in belgium, anyway.)

In fact, if you make a phonecall to Dell, you can ask for a Latitude
without Windows. They give a discount of 50 € then. For Inspiron, this
is not possible as far as I know.

Two years ago, as computer responsible of a student organisation, VTK, I
sold computers without OS (or with FreeDOS) to students directly from
 Dell. No problem for Latitude.

 Good luck!
