[Bug 910966] [NEW] Btrfs filesystem is extremly slow
Public bug reported: Maverick 11.10 i386 on thinkpad X41 This is the first trial of btrfs on such machine, it is equipped with a fast ssd. All setup and dpkg actions took around 5 times slower that a setup with xfs, ext2/3/4. Every boot and application start took around 3 times slower than on the other filesystems. I have already placed ssd speedup options for the scheduler and noatime, but this results to nothing. In certain speedtests in the net, btrfs seems to be at the same speed like ext4, but i cannot see this here. The bug is back in town, in battery mode the backlight power is a random setting away from standard. Every reboot the brightness is different than before. If you are flashed by the idle, you have to reboot again and again till the idle level is normal. On i386 i downloaded a pdf with firefox. Then i have clicked the pdf what opens the evince window, now the system swapped to death and need a hard shutdown. With today 10/05 packages the i386 is infected by this problem to. Login'd to the system, have opened facebook, turn to youtube. Now the video stops, sound are stuttering, the pointer is not movable. The ssd is swapping and swapping. Top on a vt shows that all ram and all swap are in use, xorg and firefox share the cpu ressources 47:47%. Before the today updated this bug did not exist on my i386 system!
