[Bug 344416] Re: Cannot install version libbrasero-media0_2.26.0 because of nautilus-cd-burner already installed !

2009-03-18 Thread FredBezies
To answer to your questions.

1) I used sudo aptitude update and then sudo aptitude safe-upgrade.
Brasero and libbrasero were not upgraded.

2) I expected an upgrade.

3) I encountered a conflict with nautilus-cd-burner. I removed it, and
then installed using dpkg brasero and libbrasero.

[Bug 343354] Re: cpufreq applet selects wrong governor

2009-03-17 Thread FredBezies
From what I understand, it looks like an ubuntu bug :

cpufreq-applet doesn't set anything on startup, it only changes freq/governor
on user's request. If the governor is set to performance on startup is because
the kernel has been compiled with the performance governor as the default one,
or because another script is changing it, but not the cpufreq-applet.

2009-03-17 Thread FredBezies
Indeed. On intrepid and hardy, governor was set by default on on
demand which is more CPU friendly.

And it seems I'm not the only one which disagree perfomance setting to
be on by default (see comment #0 of this bug).

[Bug 344416] [NEW] Cannot install version libbrasero-media0_2.26.0 because of nautilus-cd-burner already installed !

2009-03-17 Thread FredBezies
Public bug reported:

Brasero wasn't installed. I downloaded both
brasero_2.26.0-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb and  libbrasero-
media0_2.26.0-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb.

When I tried to install it by hand, I got a conflict error message
related to nautilus-cd-burner. I had to remove nautilus-cd-burner and
installation works.

By the way, there is a bug : a new menu entry is added, related to
nautilus-cd-burner :/

I think I'll open / search for a bug.

[Bug 312674] Re: Please upgrade to gnu tar 1.21

2009-01-02 Thread FredBezies
Closed by a brainstorm moderator because it is not an idea.

So, we will have to wait until 9.10 because debian unstable don't have
it ?

It is version 1.20 as of today, 2 january 2009.

[Bug 312674] [NEW] Please upgrade to gnu tar 1.21

2008-12-31 Thread FredBezies
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: tar

A few days ago, gnu tar was upgraded to version 1.21. It could be great
to have it for jaunty, because it adds support for both compressing and
decompressing lzma archives.

http://www.gnu.org/software/tar/#TOCreleases

* New short option -J, an alias for --lzma
* New option --lzop
* New option --no-auto-compress,

  Cancels the effect of previous --auto-compress (-a) option
* New option --no-null

  Cancels the effect of previous --null option.
* Compressed format recognition

  If tar is unable to determine archive compression format, it falls back
to using archive suffix to determine it.
* VCS support

  Using --exclude-vcs handles also files used internally by Bazaar,
Mercurial and Darcs.
* Transformation scope flags

  Name transformation expressions understand additional flags that
control type of archive members affected by them. The flags are:

  r
  Apply transformation to regular archive members.
  s
  Apply transformation to symbolic link targets.
  h
  Apply transformation to hard link targets.

  The corresponding upper-case letters negate the meaning, so that H
means do not apply transformation to hard link targets.

  The scope flags are listed in the third part of a s expression,
e.g.:

  $ tar --transform 's|^|/usr/local/|S'

  The default is rsh, which means that transformations are applied
to both regular archive members and to the targets of symbolic and hard
links.

  If several transform expressions are used, the default flags can
be changed using flags= statement placed before the expressions, e.g.:

  $ tar --transform 'flags=S;s|^|/usr/local/|'

* Bugfixes:
 1. The --null option disabled handling of tar options in list files.
This is fixed.
 2. Fixed record size autodetection. If detected record size differs
from the expected value (either default, or set on the command line), tar
prints a warning if verbosity level is set to 1 or greater, i.e. if either -t
or -v option is given.

[Bug 309920] Re: nVidia Version 96 not working unable to use compiz after restart (Ubuntu 8.10)

2008-12-20 Thread FredBezies
Not a bug. As seen in release notes :

http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/releasenotes/810#nVidia%20%22legacy%22%20video%20support

nVidia legacy video support

The 71 and 96 series of proprietary nVidia drivers, as provided by the
nvidia-glx-legacy and nvidia-glx packages in Ubuntu 8.04 LTS, are not
compatible with the X.Org included in Ubuntu 8.10. Users with the nVidia
TNT, TNT2, TNT Ultra, GeForce, GeForce2, GeForce3, and GeForce4 chipsets
are affected and will be transitioned on upgrade to the free nv driver
instead. This driver does not support 3D acceleration.

Users of other nVidia chipsets that are supported by the 173 or 177
driver series will be transitioned to the nvidia-glx-173 or nvidia-
glx-177 package instead. However, unlike drivers 96 and 71, drivers 173
and 177 are only compatible with CPUs that support SSE (e.g. Intel
Pentium III, AMD Athlon XP or higher). Systems with older CPUs will also
be transitioned to the nv driver on upgrade.

p5ne-sli. the audio is using nvidia mcp55 hda.
each time when shutdown computer, it hangs there at ALSA. My workaround
currently is to remove the pulseaudio package, then it's ok.

As bug was opened end of september, if PA is guilty, it could be related
to some changes introduced in 0.9.10-2ubuntu4 or even in 0.9.10-2ubuntu3
version.

What about :

pulseaudio (0.9.10-2ubuntu3) intrepid; urgency=low

  * Remove stop links from rc0 and rc6 (LP: #254254):
- debian/rules: change DEB_UPDATE_RCD_PARAMS to
  start 25 2 3 4 5 . stop 15 1 .

Just guessing, because using ifconfig tweak, I still have to press a key
for a complete powerdown.

[Bug 289742] Re: No sun java implementation on Intrepid 64

2008-10-27 Thread FredBezies
You have to use icedtea plugin.

See IcedTea Plugin package.

web browser plugin based on OpenJDK and IcedTea to execute Java applets
IcedTeaPlugin is a web browser plugin to execute Java applets, supporting
LiveConnect/Javascript. It is targeted for xulrunner-1.9 and compatible
browsers that support the NPAPI.

Icedtea is a temporary fork of OpenJDK

So, it is not a bug, am I wrong ?

And in my about:plugins list :

2008-10-27 Thread FredBezies
Go to system / administration / hardware manager (or something like
this, translating my french based ubuntu).

You'll see all 3rd party hardware driver. Maybe you could find ipw2200
line and activate it ?

Just guessing, of course !
