[Bug 655427] Re: language-selector installs unwanted translations breaking the interface
Same here ... I wanted to change date/time and some other specific settings to my locale nl_BE.utf8 but keep my ubuntu in English. when selecting this language in the language selector I also got translations inside firefox, thunderbird etc ... even though I set in the language selector that languages should stay in English! Even worse; tried to override the translation behavior by setting in: /etc/environment LANGUAGE=en LANG=en_US.utf8 and in: /etc/default/locale LANGUAGE=en LANG=en_US.utf8 and STILL it does not fix it, when I run 'locale' (ofcourse after a reboot each time) it still shows everything nl_BE.utf8 So where or how or why is it overriding these config files??? In the end I reverted back to english US for everything :-( -- language-selector installs unwanted translations breaking the interface https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/655427 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 222597] Re: [Hardy] skipping sound in vlc
Ok after some more testing: I still got problems with pulseaudio, my fix in the end: -put anything to alsa (everything in your audio settings and also some software like vlc, amarok and probably others needs to be set to alsa -sudo apt-get remove pulseaudio -gone are my sound skip problems in vlc and everything still works (just tried vlc, amarok, totem, flash in firefox ... [Bug 222597] Re: [Hardy] skipping sound in vlc
I put everything in the sound panel to alsa, that makes most stuff work (flash was still a bit strange from time to time) I installed vlc-plugin-alsa (i think without it it still uses) and also put vlc to alsa output (preferences - select the advanced box - go to audio - filters and select also output) Then I was able to kill pulseaudio (sudo pkill pulseaudio), when I started vlc then it does not start pulseaudio anymore and it does not skip ... Googling a bit furter: some people suggest (see: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=766860highlight=sound+skips ) If the above worked (the killing pulseaudio improves things), then this next part will allow you to use PulseAudio without annoying skips: Make a backup and then edit /etc/pulse/daemon.conf, and replace the lines at the end of your config with the following in red: Code: ; default-sample-format = s16le default-sample-rate = 48000 ; default-sample-channels = 2 default-fragments = 8 default-fragment-size-msec = 10 I just added this to the config but did not test it yet, just letting anyone know about my progress so far ... -- [Hardy] skipping sound in vlc https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/222597 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: While transferring large amounts of files from an old fileserver (debian sid) to a new fileserver (running ubuntu 7.10 - 64bit server) i got a kernel oops (happened already 2 times, updated kernel to the latest security version of today in between) The new server storage is a 5 disk software raid 5 with XFS as filesystem.
