[Bug 1417552] Re: iwlwifi 7260 loses connection, performance degrades
Tested now with 3.19 final, and 7260-12 firmware (25.15.12.0), still the same: associates, but throughput is in the order of bytes per second. When I remove the iwlwifi and iwlmvm modules, remove the newer firmware versions, and make the driver load the -9 firmware, it works quite well. I don't see how this could be a BIOS issue. If no action happens here, I will report upstream. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1417552 Title: iwlwifi 7260 loses connection, performance degrades To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1417552/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1417552] Re: iwlwifi 7260 loses connection, performance degrades
Really? This is a very small laptop with no CD drive, it also has a small SSD, so it does not have windows. I tried making a windows rescue USB drive, but it doesn't do anything because there is no windows on the drive, and on top it wiped the GRUB bootblock. The only way for me to upgrade the BIOS would be to install windows, update the BIOS, then re- install ubuntu. Do you really want me to do all this, while the benefit is quite questionable for this problem? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1417552 Title: iwlwifi 7260 loses connection, performance degrades To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1417552/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1417552] Re: iwlwifi 7260 loses connection, performance degrades
As stated in description, I already tested with 3.19-rc6+iwlwifi fixes and now 3.19-rc7 also. It does not fix the issue. Kernel version does not seem to matter much, it looks more like a firmware problem.
[Bug 1417552] [NEW] iwlwifi 7260 loses connection, performance degrades
Public bug reported: Hi, I have a Sony Vaio Pro 11 which has a intel 7260 wifi chip. I've had nothing but trouble with it (and from reading forums, I'm not alone). I file this bug to help fix issues. My findings with recent kernels: laptop has Ubuntu Vivid installed, which comes with the 3.18 kernel and 23.11.10 firmware. With the -10 firmware, often the wifi doesn't even associate with the access point, while all other devices in the house can. When it does connect, the speed is fast for about 1 second (around 10 MB/s), en then drops to 20-60 kbps, or loses connection altogether. With self-compiled 3.19-rc6 (with latest iwlwifi-fixes merged) it's the same. I tried the 23.12.10 firmware, but it is the same. When I switch to the 25.228.9 firmware, it is much better, however, speed still drops every now and then, but much less than with the -10 firmware. Kernel version doesn't seem to matter much, firmware version seems to drive all variability. This problem is for both bands 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. I can provide all debugging info you request. I will provide the minimum logging tonight when I get home. ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1417552 Title: iwlwifi 7260 loses connection, performance degrades To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1417552/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 219396] Re: [hardy] sometimes fails to suspend, lots of kernel messages in logs
Ok, I retried with latest updates, and the behaviour has changed. I freshly booted, and then did the 4 command as described, and attached above. Then I tried to suspend 3 times, every time it took *very* long to go to sleep, more than one minute. Eventually it flashes some text on the screen about CIFS, and then goes to sleep. Before it would flash said text, and then come back up in X. In the dmesg I could find the text, it is: [ 27.635409] CIFS VFS: Error connecting to IPv4 socket. Aborting operation [ 27.635476] CIFS VFS: cifs_mount failed w/return code = -101 This message is repeated every time I try to suspend the machine. Laptop was running on battery power, and no CIFS shares are mounted. The SMB daemon is running however, but I have not defined any shares. After the second suspend, the machine would power on again, and go into X, and the password dialog came up, but I could not type anything, move the mouse or switch VT. I suspended the machine again, and the next time it came up fine. [Bug 219396] [NEW] [hardy] sometimes fails to suspend, lots of kernel messages in logs
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.24 In gutsy, my laptop (dell latitude D820, nvidia) could suspend/resume without problems. It also worked fine in hardy some time earlier. But lately, often the machine refuses to suspend, it sits on a console for some time, and then switches back to X. When I check the logs, there are many entries that look like kernel stacktraces (see attachment). [Bug 95089] Re: ubuntu kernel removes CAP_SETPCAP
I don't understand this explanation. With CAP_SETPCAP, I can give a process only priviliges to e.g. bind a low port, instead of full root privileges. [Bug 95089] Re: ubuntu kernel removes CAP_SETPCAP
Cool! This allows more granular permissions for users.
