[Bug 972993] Re: Could not initialize the package information
I was able to get around this bug by trying different source servers - this leads me to think that the bug is actually a problem with some of the inidividual servers (in my case the NZ one) and not necessarily with the update manager itself. Release of Ubuntu: 11.10 apt-cache policy pkgname gives: E: Problem parsing dependency Suggests E: Error occurred while processing libreoffice-l10n-pa-in (NewVersion2) E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/nz.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_oneiric-updates_main_binary-i386_Packages E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened. I was just expecting updates to run as per usual, but package manager won't run at all now.
