2017-03-22 Thread LocutusOfBorg
** Description changed:

  [SRU Template]
  * the virtualbox kernel module needs some tweaks for the new hwe kernel up to
4.11.

  same as lp: #1674819
+
+ changelog:
+
+ VirtualBox 5.0.36 (released 2017-03-15)
+
+ This is a maintenance release. The following items were fixed and/or
+ added:
+
+ Shared Folders: fixed case insensitive filename access (5.0.34
regression; Windows guests only; bug #16549)
+ Shared Folders: fixed access to long pathes (5.0.34 regression; Windows
guests only; bug #14651)
+ VBoxBugReport: fixed VM log collection issue
+ Linux hosts: fixed autostart service script (bug #14955)
+
+ VirtualBox 5.0.34 (released 2017-03-08)
+
+ This is a maintenance release. The following items were fixed and/or
+ added:
+
+ VMM: don't access the MSR_IA32_SMM_MONITOR_CTL MSR if dual-monitor
treatment is not available (KVM workaround, bug #14965)
+ NAT network: fixed two potential crashes in the DHCP server
+ Storage: LsiLogic fix for Windows 10
+ USB: fixed not being able to attach certain USB devices having invalid
characters in the device strings (5.0.18 regression; bug #15956)
+ Host-only Network: fixed host-only adapter creation issue preventing
VirtualBox installation on Windows hosts (bug #16379)
+ Linux hosts / guests: Linux 4.11 compile fixes (bug #16506)
+ Linux Additions: fix for the shared folders kernel module to compile on
Linux 4.10
+ Linux Additions: fix the graphics driver build with Linux 4.10 and later
(bug #16298)
+
+ excluding the kernel fixes, other stuff fixes:
+ - a regression on some shared folders path/special chars
+ - the bug report script
+ - the autostart service script (guest-additions-iso fix)
+ - some crashes
+ some USB attach fixes for invalid chars-devices
+
+ I'm confident that this update is safe, debdiff is really minimal
+ compared to the last two previous updates to stable

  [Regression potential]
This is an upstream release which includes changes beyond compatibility with
the new kernel. This is reported to be a bugfix-only release. More
documentation should be provided of this.

  [Test case]
Verify that virtualbox from proposed works on both the linux kernel and the
linux-hwe kernel.

I installed the latest updates (including kernel) in xenial-proposed and
  got this crash report.

[Bug 1666059] Re: Main virtualbox window resizes itself 3 or 4 times - then no desktop start

2017-03-08 Thread LocutusOfBorg
that vboxvideo has been dropped upstream, I also tried an rm on my zesty
vm of that file but it didn't change the boot issue.

I don't understand your modeset sentence, because actually I don't understand
what vboxvideo does (kernel module)
what the driver is supposed to do, and what/how that vbox*GL* libs can replace
the vboxvideo_drv

I mostly do what upstream does here:
https://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/pkg-virtualbox/virtualbox.git/tree/src/VBox/Additions/linux/installer/vboxadd.sh#n223

but there is one difference, installing the guest additions works, the
my approach worked in Debian and works in Debian, and worked in Ubuntu
before zesty.

Zesty changed something I can't understand (and breaks only my build,
not the upstream install script)

+    Please apt-get install a JVM to run ImageJ or
+    set JAVA_HOME if it's not a JVM from a Debian Package.

even though multiple JVM's are installed here.

The problem is that the /usr/bin/imagej script detects JAVA_HOME using

-JAVA_HOME=$(/usr/sbin/update-java-alternatives -l | grep openjdk |
+    JAVA_HOME=$(/usr/sbin/update-java-alternatives -l | grep openjdk |
  sort | tail -1 | cut -d' ' -f 3)

which is empty as the output of update-java-alternatives -l is (note
  multiple spaces between columns):

  java-1.6.0-openjdk-amd64 1061
/usr/lib/jvm/java-1.6.0-openjdk-amd64
  java-1.7.0-openjdk-amd64 1071
/usr/lib/jvm/java-1.7.0-openjdk-amd64
  java-1.8.0-openjdk-amd64 1081
/usr/lib/jvm/java-1.8.0-openjdk-amd64

and cut -d' ' -f3 selects space. The solution is to squeeze multiple
spaces before running cut, so the line should read:

-JAVA_HOME=$(/usr/sbin/update-java-alternatives -l | grep openjdk |
+    JAVA_HOME=$(/usr/sbin/update-java-alternatives -l | grep openjdk |
  sort | tail -1 | tr -s ' ' | cut -d' ' -f 3)

which then gives the correct output (/usr/lib/jvm/java-1.8.0-openjdk-
amd64 in my case) and makes imagej run as expected.

[Bug 1662177] Re: tcpdump multiple CVEs

2017-02-21 Thread LocutusOfBorg
hi Tyler, sorry for the long delay!

>Thanks for the debdiffs! I'll need a little more info before I
seriously begin sponsoring them. Note >that since tcpdump is in main,
I'll still need to do my own QA.

sure, no problem (BTW I can upload in main too FWIW)

>What investigation did you perform to feel comfortable in disabling the
tests that were disabled?

short story:
the tests are *new* tests, and they need a new pcap to perform correctly (yes,
the old pcap will fail and make tcpdump crash in such corner cases, this is the
current status quo, and unless you want me to update libpcap won't change)

the investigation is: Debian disabled the same tests to the same
security uploads, against the same pcap versions (and I confirmed the
tests were failing in Ubuntu too)

long story:
these new tests are e.g. catching some issues with *broken* pcap files, they
were discovered after pcap was released, and "fixed" in new pcap versions.
Of course they aren't faults in tcpdump, but tcpdump people like to catch them
:)

Debian usually when a test requires a new libpcap to succeed just bumps
the bounds of the required pcap version, and lives happy. In this case
we need to revert such bump and avoid such tests.

They aren't regressions, probably you can just grab the pcap file from
the source code, try to run against them and you will see the same
failures.

>What amount of testing did you perform? In which Ubuntu releases and in
what environment (whether or >not in a VM, the CPU architecture, etc.)?

everything is amd64, I did test them on Xenial (my primary system), and
tcpdumped my network interface for some time (I can see the packets correctly).
I setup a Trusty VM and a Yakkety one to test the same things.
Everything has been working correctly.

"sudo tcpdump -i interface" is my test.

@David,
here you can see the Debian vbox file
https://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/pkg-virtualbox/virtualbox.git/tree/debian/virtualbox-qt.files/virtualbox.desktop

and here the upstream one

where do you want to add such changes?
