The debian clamav development team has dropped llvm-3.6 dependancy from the latest clamav (soon to be merged) : * Drop llvm supported for now. [Bug 1629644] Re: Trusty: failure to detect device with 0.4.9-3ubuntu7.5
Hello, The patches added between those two versions are not maintained in git but are quilt patches applied above the same source code found in multipath-tools_0.4.9.orig.tar.gz. You could do something similar to a bisection by following these steps : # sudo apt-get install ubuntu-dev-tools devscripts # sudo apt-get build-dep multipath-tools # mkdir bisect # cd bisect # pull-lp-source multipath-tools 0.4.9-3ubuntu7.4 # pull-lp-source -d multipath-tools 0.4.9-3ubuntu7.5 # debdiff *dsc > newpatches.patch # cd multipath-tools-0.4.9 # patch -p1 < ../newpatches.patch # quilt pop -a # quilt push -a # quilt pop 41 This will bring your source package to the patch level of 0.4.9-3ubuntu7.4. You can run the following to test that the created package does work : build the binary packages with the current set of quilt patches applied. # dch -rm and add a suffix to the version number using the ~ marker. This will make sure that the version is lower than the 7.5 version in the archive multipath-tools (0.4.9-3ubuntu7.5~test1) trusty; urgency=medium # sudo fakeroot debian/rules binary Install the packages with the 0.4.9-3ubuntu7.5~test1 version and verify that your environment still works. Then iterate over each new patch added between 0.4.9-3ubuntu7.4 and 0.4.9-3ubuntu7.5 by doing the following : # quilt push # dch -rm multipath-tools (0.4.9-3ubuntu7.5~test2) trusty; urgency=medium # fakeroot debian/rules binary Install & test When you get a package that doesn't work in your environment, it means that the last patch applied is causing your failure. You can identify the patch with : # quilt applied | tail The last one in the list is the patch you are looking for. You may want to use LXC containers to create your build environment as this will install a sensible amount of packages. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1629644 Title: Trusty: failure to detect device with 0.4.9-3ubuntu7.5 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/multipath-tools/+bug/1629644/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1626269] Re: Ubuntu 16.10: kdump is not working in 4.8 kernel.
Hello, Here is an update on the situation. I completed a kernel bisection between 4.7.8 and 4.8-rc1 (15 kernel builds) and identified the kernel commit that causes the problem : commit 021182e52fe01c1f7b126f97fd6ba048dc4234fd Author: Thomas GarnierDate: Tue Jun 21 17:47:03 2016 -0700 x86/mm: Enable KASLR for physical mapping memory regions Add the physical mapping in the list of randomized memory regions. The physical memory mapping holds most allocations from boot and heap allocators. Knowing the base address and physical memory size, an attacker can deduce the PDE virtual address for the vDSO memory page. This attack was demonstrated at CanSecWest 2016, in the following presentation: "Getting Physical: Extreme Abuse of Intel Based Paged Systems": https://github.com/n3k/CansecWest2016_Getting_Physical_Extreme_Abuse_of_Intel_Based_Paging_Systems/blob/master/Presentation/CanSec2016_Presentation.pdf (See second part of the presentation). The exploits used against Linux worked successfully against 4.6+ but fail with KASLR memory enabled: https://github.com/n3k/CansecWest2016_Getting_Physical_Extreme_Abuse_of_Intel_Based_Paging_Systems/tree/master/Demos/Linux/exploits Similar research was done at Google leading to this patch proposal. Variants exists to overwrite /proc or /sys objects ACLs leading to elevation of privileges. These variants were tested against 4.6+. The page offset used by the compressed kernel retains the static value since it is not yet randomized during this boot stage. Signed-off-by: Thomas Garnier Signed-off-by: Kees Cook As you can see, this modification is specific to the x86 architecture which is why you don't see the issue. In parallel to that, a patch to fix this situation has been published yesterday to the makedumpfile mailing list and is currently under review by the main developper : https://www.mail-archive.com/kexec@lists.infradead.org/msg16628.html There is a debian bug opened for this issue : https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=842019 While I understand your concern, I cannot push a modification that will trigger makedumpfile to generate dozen of error messages and a potentially unusable vmcore to all of the x86 world in order to satisfy only one architecture. It is important to remember that, while makedumpfile fails, the kernel dump capture mechanism reverts to using 'cp' to copy /proc/vmcore uncompressed so this vmcore file is still usable for analysis. Hopefully, we should get an ACK for the upstream bug soon, so I can push a new package to Debian. I will then proceed with the synchronization to Zesty and SRU to the other stable releases. I hope that this clarifies the situation. Julian, first of all, you are right, I did mix up the series, I'll fix that. Now, Michael Vogt (mvo), Debian's APT main developer is currently reviewing the one line fix that solves this issue. I have a reproducer and was able to identify the root cause and prepare a fix. The source of the problem is the following : string msg = "\nIndex-File: true"; // FIXME: this really should use "IndexTarget::IsOptional()" but that //seems to be difficult without breaking ABI if (ShortDesc().find("Translation") != 0) As outlined in the FIXME, IndexTarget::IsOptional() should be used, and that is what started to happen with Wily. The code now reads : if(Target.IsOptional) msg += "\nFail-Ignore: true"; Here is the complete explanation as provided to MVO : "When the Queue responsible for fetching the Package file runs, it builds the Custom600 header with the following method : > // AcqIndex::Custom600Headers - Insert custom request headers > /*{{{*/ > // - > > /* The only header we use is the last-modified header. */ > > string pkgAcqIndex::Custom600Headers() > > { > >string Final = _config->FindDir("Dir::State::lists"); > >Final += URItoFileName(RealURI); > >if (_config->FindB("Acquire::GzipIndexes",false)) > > Final += ".gz"; > > > >string msg = "\nIndex-File: true"; > >// FIXME: this really should use "IndexTarget::IsOptional()" but that > >//seems to be difficult without breaking ABI > >if (ShortDesc().find("Translation") != 0) > > msg += "\nFail-Ignore: true"; > >struct stat Buf; > >if (stat(Final.c_str(),) == 0) > > msg += "\nLast-Modified: " + TimeRFC1123(Buf.st_mtime); > > > >return msg; > The custom header is set with "Fail-Ignore: true" in the case of a Translation file. This was true until Wily when the code got refactored to use "IndexTarget::IsOptional" as mentionned in the FIXME. As far as I can tell, the issue here is that this is wrong : if (ShortDesc().find("Translation") != 0) when string::find() does not find the string, it returns string::npos so this test is always true. This means that when Packages is downloaded, Fail-Ignore: is also set to true, which means that TryNextMirror() will not retry. In MirrorMethod::Failed() : >if (!Queue->FailIgnore && TryNextMirror()) > > return; > Changing the test in pkgAcqIndex::Custom600Headers() to be : if (ShortDesc().find("Translation") != string::npos) Seems to fix the issue quite nicely. From what I can tell, this is the only place where I found that test on 0. Other places do test with string::npos. " As soon as MVO is ok with this, I will SRU the modification and upload the fix. Kind regards, ...Louis ** Changed in: apt (Ubuntu Trusty) Status: Invalid => In Progress ** Changed in: apt (Ubuntu Xenial) Status: In Progress => Inval

Hello, I can confirm the issue with makedumpfile on amd64. However, the crc32c module issue does not appear on amd64 and the module is indeed present in the smaller initrd created for kdump (present in /var/lib/kdump/initrd.img-4.8.0-11-generic). Whenever I generate the package (for trusty) including those patches I'm able to generate a core dump indicating a possible double-free or null- dereference related to a path removal (that is why I can reproduce with the test case). Unfortunately it usually explodes inside malloc() or somewhere in glibc. Using valgrind I was able to verify some free() errors: ==30415== Invalid free() / delete / delete[] / realloc() ==30415==at 0x4C2BDEC: free (vg_replace_malloc.c:473) ==30415==by 0x54E243C: vector_del_slot (vector.c:95) ==30415==by 0x550A516: _remove_map (structs_vec.c:139) ==30415==by 0x550A5C3: _remove_maps (structs_vec.c:170) ==30415==by 0x550A64B: remove_maps (structs_vec.c:181) ==30415==by 0x40713F: configure (main.c:1153) ==30415==by 0x407A74: child (main.c:1419) ==30415==by 0x40837D: main (main.c:1618) And they are exactly aligned to a core dump (multipathd) I got from another user. [Bug 1529815] Re: InfiniBand DHCP flow with PRA and DHCP relay not working
Hello, Looking at the history for this case, the SRU got rejected by pitti (Comment #29) because of a v-failed on the fix for LP: #1568485 which is also included in this SRU. Since then, LP: #1568485 has been verified and is now fix-released. There is no longer any reason to hold on the trusty SRU for this bug. The delta between this SRU and trusty-updates is now only the patch that resolves this issue. There should no longer be any roadblock for this SRU so I am re- uploading the 12.6 package. [Bug 1570775] Re: makekdump should re-exec with cio_ignore on s390x
** Description changed: + [SRU justification] + kernel crash dump fails to work without the modification. + + [Impact] + Broken functionality. + + [Fix] + Add cio_ignore -k -y output to the kexec command. + + [Test Case] + Follow indication in comment #2 to reproduce. With the fix, kdump will function as expected. + + [Regression] + A regression situation is outlined in comment #16. Newer channel devices may not be visible because of the added cio_ignore output. This may be worked around with a single command. + + The resolution outweights this limitation that can be easily worked + around. + + [Original description of the problem] + As per https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/makedumpfile/+bug/1564475/comments/19 We should re-exec with cio_ignore lines. As per report there, it should result in lowered required crashdump setting. Hypothetically, one should be able to test this imperially by lowering crashdump memory settings until kdump does not succeed anymore. And then generated and append `cio_ignore -k -u` to the KDUMP_CMDLINE_APPEND= and see that kdump starts working again with a lower memory usage. Once this is developed / verified / tested, we should probably SRU this back to xenial. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1570775 Title: makekdump should re-exec with cio_ignore on s390x To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-z-systems/+bug/1570775/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hi Kevin, I know nr_cpus=1 is supported on x86 based on this patch https://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?id=14cb6dcf0a023f5977461c94d8d5a163c937979b About other architectures, I am not really sure. But looking at the kdump-tools source package, it seems like other architectures are using maxcpus=1 to boot kdump kernel unless there is architecture specific overrides that are missing in the source.
