[Bug 718562] Re: black screen on boot with kernel 2.6.38-3.30
Yes, it looked like that grub was trying to write text over garbled screen, so nothing was readable (while using 2.6.38-3). Switching back to 2.6.38-2 kernel (removing 2.6.38-3 + grub-install to use older kernel) returned things back to normal - pymouth displayed bacground image (Kubuntu) + I got input prompt to enter my dm-crypt password. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/718562 Title: black screen on boot with kernel 2.6.38-3.30 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 718562] Re: black screen on boot with kernel 2.6.38-3.30
Additional note: on garbled screen, if I wanted to select (blindly) older kernel (I just did two Key-Down presses) and select, it did not get me to proper input prompt, so I was not able to workaround it that way.

[Bug 718562] [NEW] black screen on boot with kernel 2.6.38-3.30
Public bug reported: After recent kernel upgrade to 2.6.38-3.30, I can no longer boot my system. I have LVM + dm-crypt setup, therefore I need to enter my dm-crypt password during boot. Instead of plymouth, I get just black screen. Even if I start grub2 menu (holding Shift during boot), I just get corrupted screen (garbage), but even selecting older kernel on menu does not seem to help much (does not recover). The only way I was able to workaround the problem was to boot from recovery CD, chroot to my / partition and remove linux- image-2.6.38-3-generic package and reinstall grub (grub-install /dev/sda) in order to get older vmlinuz. [Bug 666218] [NEW] kernel oops i915_gem_object_unpin+0xc1/0xd0
Public bug reported: I get occasional hangs of my X200s laptop - I cannot say what triggers the bug, but it happens roughly every couple of days, sometimes even several times per day. My laptop is constantly docked/undocked and put to sleep (suspend to RAM) and some feeling is that this may increase the probability of hang. Also, running VirtualBox (with Windows 7 guest) may increase the occurence - but this is just a feeling. I have very similar issue, reported with skrooge: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=255133 Root cause is wrong format of date in my bank's ofx file: Sample dates: DTSTART201009099.9/DTSTART DTEND201009099.9./DTEND libofx code does not seems to be well written for such cases - from lib/ofx_utilities.cpp: if(ofxdate.size()8) { /* if exact time is specified */ exact_time_specified = true; time.tm_hour=atoi(ofxdate.substr(8,2).c_str()); time.tm_min=atoi(ofxdate.substr(10,2).c_str()); time.tm_sec=atoi(ofxdate.substr(12,2).c_str()); } As a workaround, will fix this dates by hand... ** Bug watch added: KDE Bug Tracking System #255133 http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=255133 -- libofx crashes on OFX import in gnucash https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/661809 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 619248] [NEW] BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at 0000000000000840
Public bug reported: Kubuntu Maverick, up-to-date I was running my laptop on battery and my screen just got black with text cursor (like that X server died). Could not switch consoles or reboot - only hard reset helped. After reboot I have noticed linux-image crash in /var/crash - have used that one to report this bug. [Bug 562868] [NEW] X hang with kernel oops in i915_gem_free_object+0xe3/0x130 [i915]
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg HW: ThinkPad X200s with Intel 4500MHD SW: Kubuntu Lucid up-to-date I have just booted freshly my system, connected two external monitor (dual config) and during the restore of my last session (staring Kontact and Chromium), the system just hung. I could not move mouse, disk activity stopped and I could not switch VT. Therefore only hard power- off helped. This problem occurs regularly on my ThinkPad X200s. I just need to leave it up and running during the night (on WiFi connection). See my bug 540709. There are around 10 duplicate bugs, first reports were reporting on Karmic (beta time) and none of them have received any feedback from developers. I will close all of them as duplicate as this one (which is the only one with some discussion). ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Confirmed -- WARNING: at /build/buildd/linux-2.6.32/net/mac80211/scan.c:288 ieee80211_scan_completed+0x290/0x2a0 [mac80211]() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/525734 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 534217] [NEW] x200s hung with oops in Xorg (drm .33)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg HW: ThinkPad X200s with GM45 SW: Kubuntu Lucid, up-to-date + drm .33 kernel (from apw's ppa) I was running freshly booted system (for cca 30 minutes), with Kontact and Chromium browser. I was just moving my mouse over Chromium browser, when the mouse pointer froze and I could not do anything else (switch VT, Ctrl-Alt-Del/Bksp) but power-off. Note: I have installed drm .33 to help debug another hang (bug 533144) - not sure if these two are releated. In the /var/log/messages I got the following oops: Mar 8 07:29:25 lure kernel: [ 129.433203] type=1503 audit(1268029765.165:14): operation=open pid=2121 parent=1721 profile=/usr/sbin/mysqld-akonadi requested_mask=::r denied_mask=::r fsuid=15004 ouid=0 name=/etc/mysql/my.cnf Mar 8 07:54:54 lure kernel: [ 1658.544628] PGD 1002063 PUD 9067 PMD 0 Mar 8 07:54:54 lure kernel: [ 1658.544655] CPU 1 Mar 8 07:54:54 lure kernel: [ 1658.544660] Modules linked in: sha256_generic cryptd aes_x86_64 aes_generic binfmt_misc rfcomm ppdev sco bridge stp bnep l2cap vboxdrv dm_crypt snd_hda_codec_conexant snd_hda_intel snd_hda_codec snd_hwdep snd_pcm_oss snd_mixer_oss snd_pcm snd_seq_dummy arc4 snd_seq_oss snd_seq_midi snd_rawmidi psmouse snd_seq_midi_event snd_seq thinkpad_acpi nvram snd_timer snd_seq_device iwlagn btusb bluetooth iwlcore led_class snd mac80211 soundcore snd_page_alloc cfg80211 serio_raw lp parport fbcon tileblit font bitblit softcursor vga16fb vgastate i915 drm_kms_helper drm i2c_algo_bit e1000e intel_agp video output Mar 8 07:54:54 lure kernel: [ 1658.544768] Pid: 899, comm: Xorg Not tainted 2.6.32-16-generic #23~drm33v5-Ubuntu 74705HG Mar 8 07:54:54 lure kernel: [ 1658.544774] RIP: 0010:[a00acbda] [a00acbda] i915_gem_retire_request+0x6a/0x160 [i915] Mar 8 07:54:54 lure kernel: [ 1658.544800] RSP: 0018:880136dd1cc8 EFLAGS: 00010246 Mar 8 07:54:54 lure kernel: [ 1658.544806] RAX: 0002f16a RBX: 8800bdf999c0 RCX: 8800b8a04010 Mar 8 07:54:54 lure kernel: [ 1658.544811] RDX: 8801135baf00 RSI: a00595c0 RDI: 880134aa2fd0 Mar 8 07:54:54 lure kernel: [ 1658.544817] RBP: 880136dd1d08 R08: 8800bd3496d0 R09: a00acde0 Mar 8 07:54:54 lure kernel: [ 1658.544824] R10: 0001 R11: R12: 880134aa2000 Mar 8 07:54:54 lure kernel: [ 1658.544829] R13: 8800ad1cbb00 R14: 880134aa2fd8 R15: 880134aa2fd0 Mar 8 07:54:54 lure kernel: [ 1658.544837] FS: 7f860f4ca700() GS:88002828() knlGS: Mar 8 07:54:54 lure kernel: [ 1658.544844] CS: 0010 DS: ES: CR0: 80050033 Mar 8 07:54:54 lure kernel: [ 1658.544850] CR2: 8800bdf99a30 CR3: 000136c5a000 CR4: 06e0 Mar 8 07:54:54 lure kernel: [ 1658.544856] DR0: DR1: DR2: Mar 8 07:54:54 lure kernel: [ 1658.544862] DR3: DR6: 0ff0 DR7: 0400 Mar 8 07:54:54 lure kernel: [ 1658.544869] Process Xorg (pid: 899, threadinfo 880136dd, task 880122fa2de0) Mar 8 07:54:54 lure kernel: [ 1658.544878] 8800b8a043c0 8800b8a043c0 8800ad1cbb00 Mar 8 07:54:54 lure kernel: [ 1658.544887] 0 880134aa2000 880133bc8800 880134aa3028 0002f16a Mar 8 07:54:54 lure kernel: [ 1658.544897] 0 880136dd1d48 a00acd49 880136dd1d48 880133bc8800 Mar 8 07:54:54 lure kernel: [ 1658.544934] [a00acd49] i915_gem_retire_requests+0x79/0x110 [i915] Mar 8 07:54:54 lure kernel: [ 1658.544958] [a00ace2e] i915_gem_busy_ioctl+0x4e/0xd0 [i915] Mar 8 07:54:54 lure kernel: [ 1658.544985] [a0057e1a] drm_ioctl+0x27a/0x480 [drm] Mar 8 07:54:54 lure kernel: [ 1658.545010] [a00acde0] ? i915_gem_busy_ioctl+0x0/0xd0 [i915] Mar 8 07:54:54 lure kernel: [ 1658.545025] [81083580] ? autoremove_wake_function+0x0/0x40 Mar 8 07:54:54 lure kernel: [ 1658.545035] [81150162] vfs_ioctl+0x22/0xa0 Mar 8 07:54:54 lure kernel: [ 1658.545042] [81150411] do_vfs_ioctl+0x81/0x380 Mar 8 07:54:54 lure kernel: [ 1658.545051] [8114088f] ? vfs_read+0x12f/0x1a0 Mar 8 07:54:54 lure kernel: [ 1658.545059] [81150791] sys_ioctl+0x81/0xa0 Mar 8 07:54:54 lure kernel: [ 1658.545070] [810131f2] system_call_fastpath+0x16/0x1b Mar 8 07:54:54 lure kernel: [ 1658.545184] RSP 880136dd1cc8 Mar 8 07:54:54 lure kernel: [ 1658.545194] ---[ end trace d6b0c1bb1835b06e ]--- Is there anything I can do to improve back trace (it seems that first three functions on stack cannot be decoded)? [Bug 533144] [NEW] x200s hung with oops in unmap_page_range+0xa0/0x2a0
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg SW: Kubuntu Lucid up-to-date using composited desktop HW: X200s with gm45 I left my system running during the night, just doing some video uploads (java in chromium browser). It hanged the second night in the row. After hang, keyboard led was still responding, but I could not switch VT. Also Ctrl-Alt-Del/Bksp did nothing. Only hard power-off did. [Bug 508843] Re: ubuntu shouldn't package beta version of digikam; needs upgrading to fix 200 bugs, and in particular import crashes #8 most reported KDE bug ever.
Stephen, I am sorry that you feel this way. As I said, solution is to install digikam from karmic-backports repository. You can install just digikam (and kipi-plugins), if you are concerned about unsupported status of backports (to prevent other backported packages to install). For digikam itself, I can only assure you that the karmic backport version (1.0.0) will have same (or even better) attention than supported version. For supported version in karmic, we could only get single fix for the crash (a bit hard to hunt actual patches as there were several changes for this crash issue), but this will not make our users happier, as they would probably then get other beta5 issue, that need attention. It is not useful use of our limited resources to do that (and yes, this is mostly done by community resources). -- ubuntu shouldn't package beta version of digikam; needs upgrading to fix 200 bugs, and in particular import crashes #8 most reported KDE bug ever. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/508843 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Agreed, and true, shipping beta version in Karmic was mistake, we should avoid doing this in future. However, changes between Beta5 and final version are too big to be accepted as Stable Release Update, that is why we had to resort to Backports.
[Bug 507395] [NEW] xorg crash when running in VirtualBox
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I have installed Kubuntu Lucid Alpha 2 candidate (20100113.3) using i386 live-cd into VirtualBox virtual machine (running on Karmic host with VirtualBox 3.1.2). Live-CD started normally in the virtual box and I was able to install Kubuntu without problems. After reboot into my new system, I was not able to get into X (KDM login screen). I checked Xorg.0.log and there was segmentation fault and backtrace. I have thought that it might be useful to install VirtualBox guest additions, which I did. [Bug 503453] Re: Digikam tries to initialize phonon when run from Gnome
I think your problem may be related to use of PulseAudio in GNOME/Ubuntu, while KDE 4.3 used in 9.10 is not supporting PA yet. KDE 4.4 should have proper PulseAudio support and may fix your issue. If you would like to try out KDE 4.4 beta2 (there will be also RC in around a week), you could try it from kubuntu-ppa/beta PPA. Note: this will upgrade all KDE related packages to KDE 4.4 prerelease version. In any case, it is not much that Ubuntu packagers can do to solve this issue, so it might be better to report the problem to upstream, i.e. http://bugs.kde.org -- Digikam tries to initialize phonon when run from Gnome https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/503453 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to digikam in ubuntu. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
