[Bug 1926751] [NEW] xfce UI does not react to DPI change

2021-04-30 Thread Lukas Hejtmanek
Public bug reported:

I use xfce4 desktop environment. After upgrading to ubuntu 21.04, xfce4
panel does not addapt to DPI change (either from settings -> appearence
-> fonts -> dpi or xfconf-query -c xsettings -p /Xft/DPI -s 290), new
DPI settings change only new texts, e.g., a new window is added into
windows list. It worked ok in 20.10.

[Bug 1712656] [NEW] mpv provides black output via vaapi on Intel Broadwell

2017-08-23 Thread Lukas Hejtmanek
Public bug reported:

In devel version of Ubuntu, mpv provides black output if -vo=vaapi is
specified.-vo=xv or -vo=x11 works OK, even -vo=opengl works.

mpv movie.mkv produces:
Using hardware decoding (vaapi).
VO: [opengl] 1280x526 vaapi[nv12]

in working case.

While this one outputs only black screen:
Using hardware decoding (vaapi).
VO: [vaapi] 1280x526 vaapi[nv12]

Maybe the problem is in libva-x11 instead? I tried to downgrade to 1.7.3
version from 1.8.3, but no change.

[Bug 1022100] [NEW] evince does not store settings

2012-07-07 Thread Lukas Hejtmanek
Public bug reported:

** (evince:14863): WARNING **: Error retrieving accessibility bus
address: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name
org.a11y.Bus was not provided by any .service files

Maybe it is related to the main problem, evince does not preserve any
setting I made (e.g., non continuous viewing). At each new start, I have
to again turn off continuous viewing. Also zoom level nor window size is
not preserved. Either for old pdf files or new ones.

I use ubuntu quantal (but this bug is present also in 12.04). I use

Can I setup plymouth somehow instead of passing the text boot parameter?

mountall and plymouth

2011-02-23 Thread Lukas Hejtmanek
Hi,

first of all, I'm running bleeding-edge unstable Ubuntu to test new features
(and report bugs I got).

Now I have the following issue. I tried to unhold mountall from 2.9 version
and I tried to install 2.22 (the current in unstable). It forced to install
plymouth packages. I don't want them by world is not perfect, so I installed
them anyway.

However, I don't use initramdisk and I don't use any kind of framebuffer (just
pure text). I got messages that plymouth got SIGSEGV (I guess because
the framebuffer is not available) and subsequently, the mountall does not
mount any file system which hurts a lot, mailny udev that does not start and
subsequently whole system does not start.

So, what I could do? I definitely don't want to use frame buffer. I there
a way how to disable plymouth to trying messing with fb? I want to see
messages from kernel and from boot scripts. Does this way include functional
mountall?

codes. This small patch fixes the problem.

below is patch that fixes use of uninitialized variable leading to crash when
dbus is restarted (and ck session is lost).

Pulse audio

2009-10-07 Thread Lukas Hejtmanek
Hello,

why there is now hard-coded pulse audio in Ubuntu/Karmic?

There seem to be many users not willing to use PA at all:
http://idyllictux.wordpress.com/2009/04/21/ubuntu-904-jaunty-keeping-the-beast-pulseaudio-at-bay/

What are benefits for ordinary users? No, ordinary user really does not want
to send audio through the network. Ordinary user really does not want PA
process to eat about 3-5% CPU time (mainly when running on batteries).

[Bug 405542] [NEW] gnome-panel broken patch

2009-07-27 Thread Lukas Hejtmanek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

gnome-panel 2.27.4-0ubuntu3 contains patch
16_compiz_workspace_switcher.patch which is stupid.

It produces code:
static void
pager_update (PagerData *pager)
{
wnck_pager_set_orientation (WNCK_PAGER (pager-pager),
pager-orientation);
wnck_pager_set_n_rows (WNCK_PAGER (pager-pager),
   pager-n_rows);

if (pager-wm == PAGER_WM_METACITY) {
wnck_pager_set_show_all (WNCK_PAGER (pager-pager),
 pager-display_all);
wnck_pager_set_display_mode (WNCK_PAGER (pager-pager),
 pager-display_mode);
} else {
wnck_pager_set_show_all (WNCK_PAGER (pager-pager),
 FALSE);
wnck_pager_set_display_mode (WNCK_PAGER (pager-pager),
 WNCK_PAGER_DISPLAY_CONTENT);
}
}

Every other WM than METACITY is forced to show only the current
workspace, e.g. Openbox WM. This is definitely not what users want. It
should be fixed or completely removed.

[Bug 249373] Re: gnome session does not start window manager nor restores the previous session

 the new session protocol has each app that supports it

but I care that applications do not start again as they were.

[Bug 273574] [NEW] feature request to openbox package

2008-09-23 Thread Lukas Hejtmanek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openbox

As of openbox version 3.4.7, there is a terrible change:
Change _NET_ACTIVE_WINDOW messages to not change the current desktop, but to
bring the window to the current desktop instead. This is the industry standard
policy

This is really insane. I made a patch so that this would be configurable. The
patch is here:
http://undomiel.ics.muni.cz/tmp/openbox.patch

and present a new option to the rc.xml, focus section:
obeyNetActiveWindowno/yes/obeyNetActiveWindow

the default value is yes so that it follows default behavior. Those
annoyed by the net active window message may say no so that the previous
behavior is kept. I did not manage to reach any developer of the openbox
so I'm posting it here. I would really appreciate if it could be merged
to the ubuntu openbox package.

Also, the gnome-session has problem with openbox window manager. At

update-mime-database /usr/share/mime rebuilt the database but file
permissions were 600 so no user could access the database. Also it looks
like the system had to be restarted before database rebuild has been
propagated. Now it works. Also evince was broken, no pdf file could be

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 185311 ***

actually it is not an issue with libxcb, it is an issue with the broken
application, in this case either gtk/gdk or openoffice itself and thus
it should not be closed or making a duplicate of any other xcb assertion
related bugs.

workaround could be to recompile xcb so that it does not abort when
locking braindamage is done, however such approach is *definitely*
wrong.

2008-05-12 Thread Lukas Hejtmanek
 If this is a known problem, can you please give links where this problem
 is discussed?

at least one point here:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=448555

but the solution is to remove some fonts and antialiasing is back.

a friend told me that he saw discussion in Mandrake list some time ago
but was unable to find it again and the resolution was to remove some
'buggy' fonts.

 Also, why do you think this is a bug in the font package and not in
libqt4?

not sure. it could be libqt4 problem as well as buggy font.

[Bug 201847] [NEW] pm-utils need much larger customization to be usable

2008-03-13 Thread Lukas Hejtmanek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pm-utils

pm-utils are terrible at all. Unfortunately, hal depends on them. Why
the hell all the parts in /usr/lib/pm-utils/power.d/* and /usr/lib/pm-
utils/sleep.d/* are not customizable?

E.g.:
- /usr/lib/pm-utils/power.d/sched-powersave
  it is *NOT* energy efficient to enable multicore power savings on current
CPUs but there is no way how to correctly disable it.
- /usr/lib/pm-utils/power.d/laptop-tools
  I want to use my own powersave setting for caches. How can I do that if the
values are hard coded in the script that gets overwritten in the next upgrade?
- /usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/94cpufreq
 This script does not correctly restore my tweaks of ondemand governor. How can
I avoid touching cpufreq governors?

hal in hardy is wrong about vga quirks for ThinkPad T61 6465CTO. I have

[Bug 194052] Re: hal not reading information about sysfs batteries correctly

2008-03-01 Thread Lukas Hejtmanek
OK, there is a typo in sources. hald/linux/device.c line 3181,
if(!hal...) should be if(hal..). After it, lshal reports correctly rate.
But gnome-power-manager is still wrong about the rate, more precisely,
g-p-m updates the rate only on power plug/unplug. Battery capacity (%)
is updated on the fly correctly. Also, after desktop startup g-p-m
reports battery is discharging even if running on power.

[Bug 194052] Re: gpm does not create the correct profiling files

I think this is a bug in hal.

lshal | grep -i bat

hal reports different values than in linux.sysfs_path/* It seems that
hal reloads values *only* on an acpi event, e.g., unplugging power.
Values in the directory are getting changed while lshal reports still
the same values unless I generate an acpi event using power cord
(plug/unplug). Maybe other acpi events work as well.

[Bug 193431] [NEW] hal.conf for DBUS is too strict?

2008-02-19 Thread Lukas Hejtmanek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hal

Not sure, whether this is a bug or not. But latest hal package in hardy
contains a file /etc/dbus-1/system.d/hal.conf which enables access to these
items:
allow send_interface=org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.SystemPowerManagement/
allow send_interface=org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.VideoAdapterPM/
allow send_interface=org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.LaptopPanel/
allow send_interface=org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.Volume/
allow send_interface=org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.Volume.Crypto/

only to root user (uid 0). If I change policy to my local user, things
work (e.g. mounting devices).

Apparently this policy: policy at_console=true is not true even for
the local user running X server (without gdm or any other xdm). I'd like
to know whether this is a bug or I have only wrong settings.

Wit Wilinski: could you file a bug report as stated above?

Pedro Villavicencio : for me, it didn't create any .crash file. Maybe
because I never install any bug reporting system.. Anyway, I'm unable to
provide different bugreport than this one.

[Bug 187071] [NEW] gnome-terminal deadlocks in Hardy

2008-01-29 Thread Lukas Hejtmanek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

When running midnight commander in gnome-terminal, gnome-terminal
deadlocks after while of huge mc activiti (e.g. coping kernel source
from dir to dir).

It looks like a deadlock due race condition as attaching strace
unfreezes the terminal for a while and then it stops in nanosleep. If I
cancel strace and run it again, the terminal unfreezes again.

get free if I kill firefox (and firefox is not definitely running.).

[Bug 56469] libxvidcore - illegal instruction on Intel EM64T

2006-08-15 Thread Lukas Hejtmanek
Public bug reported:

I'm using libxvidcore 1.1 final from amd64 edgy desktop distribution. It
causes illegal instruction when used by mplayer. My system is Intel Core
2 Duo processor. Looking into sources of libxvidcore I found that for
X86_64 architecture it always uses 3DNow instructions (in particular,
femms). This should be fixed by checking cpu flags that are really
available.
