I see the same behavior on both Bionic and Xenial on the 4.15.0-43 kernel. 4.4.0-141 doesn't have the same issue but is still reacting weirdly. with both libvirt and qemu from ubuntu updates and Ubuntu cloud archive. the problem is more obvious when starting the vm on a server with multiple numa nodes. 4.18.0 is also affected. Installed the pkg on xenial, and the same issue was present, i didn't tested disabling the transparent_hugepage tho. Sorry about the confusion. 1- update libvirt 2- virst list (I see running vms) 3- try to stop the vm with nova, "openstack server stop uuid" 4- virsh list. (now it hangs) after restarting virtlogd and libvirtd, everything seems to work correctly again. anyhow, how does a reload of those process could even work ? If the PID is kept the same it's defenetly not the "new version" that is running. I think it would be better to restart the services instead of only reloading them. did you use virsh to stop/start the vms ? or you did it via Nova ? [development fix] I know this section is deprecated but it's actually relevant in this case ;) The fix hasn't hit quantal yet because of some massive packaging rework going on with LTSP to try and bring us in sync with Debian. I can guarantee that we will have a new upstream release in quantal that will include this fix.
