[Bug 376379] [NEW] Sound driver keeps changing on reboot
Public bug reported: Sound driver keeps changing on reboot, sometimes Autodetect works, sometimes HDA Intel works, sometimes ALSA works, sometimes OSS works, etc. Sometimes sound even works after a couple of reboot. Autodetect fails most of the time. This sort of thing has been happening since I used Ubuntu 7. I recently switched to Ubuntu 9.04 in hope that this would have been fixed. Unfortunately the problem persist. I'm not sure if my hardware has anything to do with it since sound actually works when it does. I'm also not sure what data to get and how to get it to help you, so please let me know what to do if you need more information. (I assumed I can't use any application Help - Report a Problem on this one) Thanks. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Sound driver keeps changing on reboot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/376379 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 164584] Re: gedit: trash files do not show in file browser
I am still using the same versions of gedit (2.20.3) and Nautilus (2.20.0) so yes, it's still an issue for me. I don't know whether it's still an issue with newer versions because I haven't been able to install the latest gedit 2.22.3, although from gedit's What's new lists since 2.20.3 there seem to be nothing related with this issue. BTW there are a couple of issues when installing gedit right from the source on Gutsy (Ubuntu 7.10) apparently related to file/library locations. I'm not familiar enough with Ubuntu/Debian and the Synaptic Package Manager has no update for gedit (at least until last week I checked). I have no idea which part of my last message you think is a misconduct. It was meant to be humorous while making a strong point. If you are referring to the word stupid, it is obvious to me that it refers to myself. Sorry if you misunderstood that. I see no point in filing a bug report here, so thank you and goodbye. -- Clicking on DEL immediately send file to trash bin https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/172776 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 172776] Re: Clicking on DEL immediately send file to trash bin
1. Open gedit, have the file browser displayed in the side panel. 2. Edit any file. Let's say you want to delete a character but somewhat you decided to do it later after you check for some other files you have. 3. Click on any file in the file browser (so the keyboard focus is now on the selected file). Note that you set your Nautilus action preferences to double click, not single click, so clicking on the file simply focus the keyboard on the file, not opening it. 4. Drink come coffee. The idea is that your brain does not remember the details of what you were doing (sometimes it happens when you're my age, btw). All you have is a vague idea that you need to delete some character. 5. Go back to gedit. Your see the file you are editing, you remember that you wanted to delete the stupid character so you press the DEL button on your keyboard. 6. The file with the focus (the one in the file browser side panel which still has the keyboard focus) immediately goes to the trash bin, despite your preferences to have Nautilus ask you before you delete a file. You don't even realize that the file is gone because your eyes are on the character and you are busy wondering why is it that you pressed the DEL key and the stupid character is still there. -- Clicking on DEL immediately send file to trash bin https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/172776 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 172776] Clicking on DEL immediately send file to trash bin
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gedit gedit 2.20.3 Nautilus 2.20.0 When the focus is in the file browser pointing at a file and you press the DEL key then the file is directly sent to the trash bin. I did not try it on a folder. I was about to delete some characters in the editor. Then I jumped into the file browser side-panel to look up for some files. Now the focus is on a file. I did not realize the focus was in the file browser so I pressed the DEL key to continue editing (deleting the characters in the editor). The file (with the focus) disappeared. Apparently it went straight to the trash bin. There was no prompt despite my setting in Nautilus::Preferences::Behavior::Trash::Ask before emptying the Trash or deleting files. Even with Include a Delete command that bypasses Trash set to off. This can be very confusing, and probably even hazardous (think of a power failure). One might not notice that the file is trashed. I think this is not an expected behavior. I don't know whether this is a gedit issue or the underlying file browser library (perhaps Nautilus?) but I thought gedit authors should know about it. ** Affects: gedit (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Clicking on DEL immediately send file to trash bin https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/172776 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 164526] Firefox cursor disappear in beginning of text fields
Public bug reported: I have some javascript code that displays a custom dialog box, that is, a DIV on top of a disabled DIV on top of the page (so as to create the effect of a modal dialog box). The dialog has a number of text fields. When I click on any text field to enter some text, the cursor (displayed as a bar) does not show starting from the beginning of the text until a number of characters. Afterwards it shows again normally. Example: xABCD cursor shows up again after the last x. In some fields, I can only see a tiny part of the cursor. It gives the appearance as if the cursor coordinate is miscalculated. [Bug 164540] Nautilus: file properties screwed up
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus I was copying some MP3 files from a USB attached hard-disk to my local hard-disk /home/marc/Music. The hard-disk is VFAT formatted. All the copied files have the executable flag on (which is wrong but not the bug I am referring now). I decided to correct the file permissions the old fashion way via a terminal thus chmod 666 /home/foo/Music/*. It worked fine so I copied some more files and perform some more chmod. Suddenly, all file properties, except the names, in all subdirectories were screwed up. Permission ?, Date Mofied ?, Owner ?, Group ?. For example: foo.mp3 ? ? ? ? bar.mp3 ? ? ? ? I was completely shocked. I was no longer able to edit the file properties nor delete any of them nor the directories via Nautilus, even after a cold reboot. Jumping into a terminal and perform ls has the same result. The only thing I could do was a sudo rm (via terminal) on all directories, then copy the files all over again. This time I modified the permissions using Nautilus GUI, i.e. select all the files (not including the directories), right-click on properties, etc. Now all is well. Additional information: - Linux 2.6.22-14-generic #1 SMP Sun Oct 14 23:05:12 GMT 2007 i686 - Gutsy Gibbon (Ubuntu 7.10) fresh install with all latest updates - Motherboard ASUS P5LD2-X with Intel Core Duo @2GHz I am not trying to reproduce this bug. Re: [Bug 164540] Re: Nautilus: file properties screwed up
The VFat filesystem doesn't understand unix file permission so any try to change them in a vfat partition will be futile, anyways this seems more a question than a bug itself so please raise this issue as a question at the support tracker [WWW] https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu, where other people with the same issue could benefit from the answer. Thanks for taking the time to report this issue and help to make Ubuntu better, feel free to report any future bugs you might find. ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Invalid Sorry if I was not exactly precise. The issue is when I worked with the files already on my ext3 local disk. Nothing to do with those on the USB attached VFAT disk. The local files were at one time correctly transferred (although I must say I don't like the idea of the executable bit set by default). Thus I changed the local files permissions via a terminal with chmod (I'm sure after all these years I'm not stupid enough to try change file permissions on a VFAT system). After a number of transfers and chmods, Nautilus suddenly displayed all files with screwed properties. So I jumped into the terminal and performed a ls just to confirm. Sure enough, the result was the same. I cold rebooted the computer just to make sure this isn't a cache issue. Still the same thing. So this was permanent. This must be a file-system (or, if Nautilus or the underlying Glib library plays with the file-system API directly instead of going through the C library, then perhaps a Nautilus/Glib issue as well). I know a bit of the internal works of a file-system and Glib. Although I know I don't have the qualification to dare say anything technical about them, I believe this should go upstream. -- Nautilus: file properties screwed up https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/164540 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 164584] gedit: trash files do not show in file browser
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gedit In /etc/mime.types the file extensions ~ % bak old sik are of type application/x-trash. Files with those extensions are not visible in gedit's file browser (side pane). Despite my setting in File Management Preferences - Views - Show hidden and backup files, those files are still visible in Nautilus. They are, however, not visible in gedit's file browser. So this is either a bug on either one application or a consistency issue. Why hide backup/trash files from users in the first place? This does not make much sense unless there is some sort of a delete backup/trash files menu. Even that, I think most users would know foo.txt~ is a backup file of foo.txt when they see it and they should be the one to decide whether they need to keep the backup file individually. As a side note I have never understood the idea of a number of alternative extensions for backup files when one should just be enough. Also, I find it odd that ~ and bak are somewhat decided to be backup files when they are put under application/x-trash files. ** Affects: gedit (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- gedit: trash files do not show in file browser https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/164584 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 164182] gedit hangs the entire system
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gedit I was simply editing a number of files with two gedit windows opened. The first crash happened when I clicked on the Open toolbar icon. The second crash happened when I clicked on the Edit menu. The third crash happened when I press Ctrl-f. So the action seems arbitrary. On each crash I could do absolutely nothing, even the keyboard did not respond. Nothing worked so I had to cold reboot the computer. Something is seriously wrong and I have no idea what it is. One other thing. Unlike what is said in gedit's help, I don't see any Highlighting tab on the preference menu and I can't find anything that tells me I'm doing something wrong.
