system admin
hi list. on the Orca page there are instructions to enable system administration on hardy with Orca as follows: SYS ADMIN: 1) Create root's ~/.orbitrc file (/root/.orbitrc, with and owner.group of root.root with a mode of 644 on my system): ORBIIOPIPv4=1 ORBIIOPUNIX=0 2) Edit /etc/sudoers to add the following line after the line with env_reset in it: Defaults env_keep+=GTK_MODULES Everything else seems to have been taken care of by Luke and Ubuntu (thanks Luke!), at least for my decrepit Toshiba Tecra M2 laptop. can anyone of you help me by rewriting this in a clear step by step instructions? I don't know how to create a file yet, and I forgot how to edit a file as root. thanks. the status of the accessibility of hardy's installation with orca
hello. what is the status of the final release of hardy in regard to its installation accessibility? during beta phase it wasn't accessible using speech. Re: hardi beta problem, orca does not speak for installation.
hi Krishnakant. I assume you are talking about hardy. if so, the installer is being worked on. we will be notified when this bug is solved so that we can test. ttsynth and ubuntu hardy
hi all. I just saw this message from Luke Yelavich in the ubuntu accessibility mailing list. I would like to know if this has been fixed, or if it has a work around, as I am thinking of getting ttsynth: -- Greetings all. I am writing to inform you all, that as of Ubuntu Hardy 8.04, to be released in April next year, the Ttsynth/Ibmtts speech synthesizer will no longer work, due to a library that it depends on, having been removed from the Ubuntu archives. This library was a left over piece from the gcc 2.95 and glibc 2.2 toolchain, that was kept in ubuntu for compatibility reasons. It is actually a wonder that it has stayed around this long. I appreciate the fact that there are many of you out there that use this synth daily, however this decision was out of my hands, and it is a matter for the vendors to sort out. I would encourage users of this synth to contact the vendor from which you purchased your license, to ask them for a proper resolution to this issue. The library that ttsynth/ibmtts currently depends on is libstdc++2.10-glibc2.2, which is the library that was removed from Ubuntu hardy. Thanks in advance for your understanding. - - -- All the best, Mohammed al-shar' msn: [EMAIL PROTECTED] skype: world.of.wonders mobile: +962(79)6632186 www.wowonders.net-- Ubuntu-accessibility mailing list Ubuntu-accessibility@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-accessibility
getting files from my windows machine
hi. I just want to see if people here know of an easier way to transfer files between my windows machine and my ubuntu one. what I currently have to do is copy them through a memory stick. in networking, neither of the 2 devices can detect each other, but they both are physically connected to the same network and to the net. since I couldn't get any of the administration tools work with speech it doesn't seem likely I can go further. anybody can offer his help or advice? system administration
hi list. ever since I installed ubuntu, I am struggling with making system administration speak. I did follow the instruction at the orca wikie page by creating a .orptc file in /root and disabling the opropriate option in the general tap of orca. but still each time I open anything through the administration menu and then enter my password orca hangs. even if from gnome-terminal I issue a command like sudo network-admin the same happens. for those of you who had success in this, any comments, or recommendations? I am running orca version 1.9 pre2 All the best, Mohammed Al-shar' msn: [EMAIL PROTECTED] skype: world.of.wonders www.wowonders.net -- Ubuntu-accessibility mailing list Ubuntu-accessibility@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-accessibility
ventrilo or any other alternative
dear listers. hi, finally my new linux box is working fine except for the audio issue, but that will be in another post. anyway, is it possible to install ventrilo or any other alternative voip client accessibly under ubuntu? here's what i am thinking. I want to be able to provide our customers with remote training by voice, like give a class and have the audience ask questions. is this doable? do how can I do this best? nhote that my audience are mostly windows users, so the client side will have to have windows version. thanks Mohammed al-shar' -- Ubuntu-accessibility mailing list Ubuntu-accessibility@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-accessibility
can't set up the build environment for Orca on Ubuntu
hi everyone. I got a new machine dedicated for ubuntu. I installed ubuntu feisty (the dvd version) and it all went smoothly. anyway, my problem is when I issue sudo apt-get build-dep gnome-orca it tells me: e: could not open file /var/lib/apt/lists/jo.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_feisty_universe_fource_Fources - open (2 no such file or directory) what do you think is going wrong? it happens with the dvd inserted in the drive or not in it, no difference. note also that pinging any internet url will work, even if I do ping ubuntu.com. also doing something like sudo apt-get update works. the reason I am sending to this list is that I am installing it to be using orca. and sorry if this is off list. thanks alot. Re: can't set up the build environment for Orca on Ubuntu
hi gilles! I have only 3% of the disk used. attached is the log file you asked for. thank you very much. mohammed. - Original Message - From: Gilles Casse [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: ubuntu-accessibility ubuntu-accessibility@lists.ubuntu.com Sent: Wednesday, April 25, 2007 1:10 AM Subject: Re: can't set up the build environment for Orca on Ubuntu Mohammed Al-shar' wrote: anyway, my problem is when I issue sudo apt-get build-dep gnome-orca it tells me: e: could not open file /var/lib/apt/lists/jo.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_feisty_universe_fource_Fources - open (2 no such file or directory) I would check the hard disk partition, it is perhaps full. For example, you may type in a console: df -kh /var If it is ok, I would trace the systems calls for getting a more detailled error message. For example as root: strace -o /tmp/log apt-get build-dep gnome-orca The resulting file, /tmp/log, is quite verbose, but hopefully a more explicit error message might be found around the end of the file. If you send the log file to me, I will try to look at it.
