[Bug 250046] Re: when using scim, selected text is deleted when using kde 4

2008-10-17 Thread Premier
I'm using intrepid without scim installed and as of today I have the
problem reappeared. (again , no scim installed).

The most irritating thing is the open/save dialogs. If I want to save a
picture from the internet, I am forced to give it a name or else it will
appear as .jpg in my filesystem.

[Bug 250042] [NEW] scim crashes konqueror/kde4

[Bug 250045] [NEW] skim evades Window-Specific settings and cannot be controlled

2008-07-19 Thread Premier
Public bug reported:

KWin, at least under kde 4, cannot control the floating skim panel
because it is an unusual window type.

The skim floating panel appears on the far left in the middle of the
screen. I find this an annoying place for it to be, so every login I
drag it to the bottom of the screen. I wanted kde to do this for me
automatically by using the Window-Specific settings feature, but there
is no way to apply window specific settings to the skim panel. Usually
with an app, you can press alt-f3 or right click on the title bar and
you get a popup menu. You can then choose AdvancedSpecial Window
Settings and get a nice dialog allowing you to manipulate a program's
behaivor. However, skim panel has no titlebar and if you press alf-f3
on it, the popup appears for window behind it.

I then tried opening Special Window Settings for a different window,
then going to the first tab of the dialog and clicking Detect Window
Properties. However, when doing this with skim, it fails.

So, in conclusion, there is no apparent way to control skim panel.

[Bug 212602] [NEW] keyboard driver no longer availible in hardy

2008-04-05 Thread Premier
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-kbd

Keyboard was a legacy driver, the predecessor to kbd, that was included
in gutsy. The only technological difference that I can find is that
keyboard allows one to shift function keys, and kbd doesn't. One could
switch between keyboard drivers by changing the relavent line in

[Bug 109457] Re: Volume control doesn't fallow LFE

2007-10-28 Thread Premier
Okay, So I didn't understand this bug correctly for a long time, so I
was not able to describe it correctly. It exists in every distribution
and configuration that I've ever used, so that means the bug is at least
11 months old now. I've used kde on debian, mepis and ubuntu. Simply,
my sound card has Master, PCM, and LFE channels. The Master is really
front; it does not control LFE. Therefore, if you want LFE (which makes
music so much better) you are faced with a situation where the mute
shortcuts don't actually mute the sound, since LFE is still audible. To
mute sound, you must manually mute both LFE and Master. Oddly, if you
set Master volume to 0 (as opposed to muting), LFE is muted, but if
Master is very low (say 5), LFE is still audible at full volume.

The people on #alsa instructed me to write a ~/.asoundrc that creates a
software master. This didn't seem to really solve the problem; also,
youtube videos (flash?) do not play sound with a software master for
some reason.

As a solution (and actually a very pleasent one), I wrote a script that
magically fixes it. Theres a bug I'm still working on, but it seems to
work very well for me. If you want to use it, associate hot keys with
volcontrol.pl mute volcontrol.pl up and volcontrol.pl down... you
can do this with the kde menu editor, or xbindkeys, or some other
method. Its kde dependent, but I might be able to fix that.

The script just uses amixer and sets LFE independently of Master.
Please report any problems you may have with it, as it is unlikely to
work with all configurations.

LCPI gives me this info:
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition
Audio Controller (rev 01)
If I recall correctly, its a sigma tel audio card. This is a Dell E1705 laptop.

[Bug 152479] Re: adept should minimize to tray

2007-10-14 Thread Premier
Lol, I love virtual desktops! (I have been using linux exclusively for
almost a year now, I know how they work :)

Anyway, as I said, its what I've gotten myself used to, with so many
nice apps nicely minimizing to the tray. Furthermore, a package manager
shouldn't be interrupted-- even if it is closed, if its installing stuff
it should still work. Apt may be intelligent enough to handle being
interrupted*, but still, its a bad idea.

*Actually, apt doesn't really handle that correctly, does it?

[Bug 152479] adept should minimize to tray

2007-10-13 Thread Premier
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: adept

This is just a wishlist. I would like it if the adept updater would
minimize to the tray when you closed it if it is installing or updating
software. All of my favorite kde applications minimize to the tray and
I have come to love it. Last week I used iTunes for the first time in a
year, and was shocked to realize that it doesn't do this... so you see I
have become very used to apps using the system tray. Adept seems like

[Bug 128666] Re: kde-guidance-powermanager causes double sleep, memory corruption

2007-10-09 Thread Premier
I have a similar problem with kpowersave (actually, I was running
guidance simultaniously). I have a modified sleep.sh script that may or
may not be helpful (please use at your own risk.) This is for gutsy.
Basically, it checks for a file called suspend_lock. If the file does
not exist, it creates it and then suspends. After it resumes, it
deletes the file. This should prevent double suspends almost all of the
times, but no guarentees. I have only tried this once on one computer
with one version of ubuntu (gutsy).

Place this attachment in /etc/acpi/sleep.sh (overwrite the existing
file.)

[Bug 139509] Dell E1705 suspend quietly overheats your proccessor

2007-09-13 Thread Premier
Public bug reported:

This is a bug with the dell E1705 with ati mobility radeon X1400 card.
With fglrx install (may or may not be significant) the computer will
sometimes but not all the time do a psuedosuspend. This is where all
the peripherals and the fans turn off, tricking you into thinking that
the computer is suspending properly, but the processor is still running,
and if you do not catch it it will overheat. Also, the computer will
not resume from suspend in this state. That laptop's power indicator
does a slow blink when it is correctly suspending, but in this
psuedosuspend, the light is steady-- that is the only way you can tell
the true suspend from the psuedosuspend. This only happens on, I would
guess, one out of 10 suspends. There is no record in any of the kernel
logs.

[Bug 119396] KMail skips some emails for gmail, will get them a week late

2007-06-08 Thread Premier
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kmail

Kmail seems to not want to download particular emails for as long as a
week late, even though it checks gmail every minute. This is quite
embarrasing when I get an urget email a few days late. There does not
seem to be any reason for this: it will still find new emails even while
ignoring old emails, but it will still get the old emails after a delay.
This basically makes kmail useless for me.

Kmail is programmed to use gmail's pop server and leaves the emails on
the gmail server (rather than deleting them). Gmail is configured to
use pop for all email that arrives from now on.

[Bug 118447] Random blank screen since fglrx update, forcing me to restart

2007-06-02 Thread Premier
Public bug reported:

Hi, I think this is fglrx related, but I'm not sure. It seems to have
started with the most recent fglrx upgrade. Basically, if I leave my
computer alone for long enough, it will turn the screen black. For a
while, it will resume without a password (even though I've set it to
require a password). After a longer period of time, it will become
unresponsive. Before, I had a blank screen for a screen saver and it
worked just fine. The first few times this happend I could alt-ctrl-
backspace and log back in. It seems a lot like a hidden screen saver,
but I've disabled every suspend and screen saver option I could find. I
could never get my computer to suspend or hibernate correctly, so it
might be attempting to hibernate.

The most recent time, it was much worse. I was watching a movie. When
the screen blanked, it locked up immediately, even though I could still
hear sound. I could not kill X, so I was forced to reboot.

Does this bug constitute a security vulnerability? Whatever it is, it
probably the worst bug I've ever encountered in linux, and I've found a
lot.

I'm running a dell inspiron E1705 laptop with an ATI Mobility Radeon
X1400 and an Intel centrino duo with feisty.

[Bug 116085] Re: Konqueror should copy cached version of duplicated tabs, not reload them

2007-05-28 Thread Premier
Hey, a couple days ago link in the above post sent me to the right page,
but now it sends me to something about how the system sometimes hard
locks in edgy. Is that something the launchpad developers should be
aware of? Does anyone else get this?

[Bug 109457] Re: Volume control doesn't fallow LFE

2007-05-28 Thread Premier
Hi, I have a problem that maybe this problem... its a little hard to
describe. I thought is was this bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kdeutils/+bug/58751 but it may
not be.

If you turn LFE all the way down, it works like expected. This all seems
to be related to LFE (Bass channel). Apparently, its able to bypass the
master volume, but PCM is not. so, my guess is, whatever audio backend
we all are using routes LFE incorrectly. When mute is on, the sound is
substantially different than with it off -- as if we are only hearing
the lower frequences. I didn't discover LFE until recently, and I would
like to have it work correctly. Incidentally, with LFE on, turning down
master volume seems to have little effect, but turning the master down
to zero effectively mutes it, even if you have LFE on.

[Bug 108795] Re: Mute Hotkey works but does not mute the sound

2007-05-28 Thread Premier
Hi, this might be related to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/alsa-lib/+bug/109457 or
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kdeutils/+bug/58751

For me its closely related to LFE. The computer surely thinks the
sound is muted, however.

[Bug 92207] Re: konqueror and firefox freeze when closing a tab with a flash animation

2007-05-28 Thread Premier
In my expirence, it not only freezes konqueror, but it causes the entire
system to become unresponsive and uses 100% cpu. It may be flash's
fault, but we should make sure that a program like flash cannot hog the
entire system like that.

[Bug 116085] Konqueror should copy cached version of duplicated tabs, not reload them

2007-05-21 Thread Premier
Public bug reported:

I don't know if this should be considered a bug or a feature request,
but here goes...

When you right click on the tab in konqueror, it gives you the option to
open the page in a duplicate tab. This feature is all but useless
because of poor modern website design: when you attempt to reload a url
in flashy, form based websites, it just sends you back to the home page.
We can't change the way websites are designed, but we can change
konqueror. I think konqueror should attempt to duplicate the cached
version of a webpage rather than the reload the website. This also uses
less internet bandwidth, which even today is at a premium.

** Affects: Ubuntu
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: Unconfirmed

[Bug 114721] Click and drag doesn't work with alt-tab

2007-05-14 Thread Premier
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdeutils

Open up two applications with click and drag support; for example
konqueror and kplayer. Then, press and hold on a draggable object, like
a video file, but do not move the mouse. Then, use alt-tab to select
the second application, so that the second app is now directly under the
mouse. Then release. If you did not move the mouse during this
process, a click and drag action will not be completed; in the case of
konqueror, that file will be opened with the default application, so in
our example, the file will be opened with another movie player, in my
case VLC, in others Kaffine. This isn't such a big deal, and by moving
the mouse it can be avoided, but its an annoyance and should be
considered for usability improvements.

I have the same problem. I have the sound mixer panel applet and it
shows the master volume bar changing colors when muting, although there
is no change in how the music sounds. This was working perfectly just
a few weeks ago. I don't remember what broke it... maybe feisty
upgrade?

[Bug 113139] Amarok stops playing music when reaching a broken file

2007-05-07 Thread Premier
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: amarok

Amorak will stop playing music when it reaches a broken file. I have a
number of unplayable files in my database that sometimes amarok will
attempt to play. Amorak displays an error message then stops playback.
Amarok should just skip to the next song, and perhaps make a note of the
broken song. (I would like to batch-delete them, in my case)

[Bug 109827] scim panel stuck in gtk, cannot switch back to scim-panel-kde

2007-04-24 Thread Premier
Public bug reported:

Scim panel is stuck in scim-panel-gtk mode. Scim panel opens different
configuration windows in gtk and kde mode. Unlike the kde configuration
window, the gtk window does not appear to have a method to switch back
and forth. Deleting ~/.scim is not a fix. Reinstalling does not help.
Also, uninstalling scim caused my computer to be unusable (all text
based applications hang on startup.) killall scim-panel-gtk scim-
panel-kde will simply reload the gtk panel.

To reproduce: go into the kde configuration window and switch the scim
panel to gtk. Then close the window, reload scim, and observe that it
is now in gtk mode. Then right click on the scim icon in the system
tray, and chose scim-setup. Observe that under Panel there is only
one option: GTK. There is no method to return to kde.

Re: [Bug 104604] Re: [feisty][kubuntu]Konqueror don't show navigation bar

2007-04-21 Thread Premier
Thanks! The problem had already solved itself (magically) but I'll keep
the email in case it happens again. Do you know a way to coerce konqueror
to open with a particular view profile when external applications tell it to
open particular files, like when I click a bookmark in the kicker? I want
to have split windows all the time.

On 21/04/07, keko_metal [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

I had the same problem, and was corrected by those steps

-Open a terminal in the home directory:
 mv ~/.kde ~/.kde2
 -Run Konqueror, keep window open.
 -Go to terminal again:
 rm -r .kde mv ~/.kde2 ~/.kde
 - Go to Konqueror window. Save ALL view profiles again (Settings-Save
 View Profile...)
 - Close and reopen Konqueror

 Voilá!

I deleted ~/.kde/share/config/konquerorrc twice, no change. The
toolbars cannot be added, and the menu bar is missing some options, and
the options are in the wrong order. Ironically, Dolphin is already
