Personally, while Martijn could have weighed his words more, I too agree that this isn't much more than spam, and I too agree that it doesn't matter if "silent computers" has done more or less than anyone else for ubuntu-be... I get hundreds of this kind of mail in my spam box... Fact is that in the same way, one could answer: "Go ask a fnack-employee, he would know how to help you any further." But that wasn't the question. Fact is that in that case much more than give preferences for any shop where you can buy smartphones, isn't delivered. Oh yeah... and on an ironic sidenote... if this were a real spammer - he would thank us for sending out a gazillion more messages with his company name in the title. I was hoping to get feedback in the sense of: "I'm using *blabla* on my computer and *bla* on my Android device and it all works fine doing these steps: *blablabla*" Or even: "Buy this device: *SomeDevice*, it contains drivers for ubuntu" In extremis it could be: "let me google this for you: *keyword 1* *keyword 2* ..." Obviously, if the solution you're offering is something you developed in-house, and thus only offer to your customers... that's also an option, and then the shop is he place to be. Well... but as disappointing as the answer was... the answer "spammer" didn't help

Thank you very much! I was once on that page but clicked it away and came on bugsquad where I had to ask permissions and so on :$. I thought this page was only for current releases and not for the testing releases. [Ubuntu-be] filing a bug
On my laptop I'm testing the new version of Ubuntu natty. Now I encountered a few bugs with the system, primarely involving compiz for the effects... I would want off course to give that through to the developers... But I have the idea that the only way to file a bug is to become a member of the bugsquad, but am a little affraid that would be a too responsable commitment for myself, because I'm just working with it and playing with it, not really actively testing it. Is there a possibility to file a bug without becoming a member of the bugsquad? Hallo, Ik ben het hier wel grotendeels mee eens. Helaas eigenlijk, juist omdat de mogelijkheden van Linux toch wel legio zijn. Enkele jaren geleden heeft trouwens linuxfocus een artikel gepubliceerd waarin de schrijver een systeem met Linux opzette voor zijn moeder, en daaruit kwam ook duidelijk naar voren dat je van Linux ook een simpel systeem voor leken kunt maken. Maar toch is er vaak bij de generatie digibeten die vaak het één en ander proberen te leren via een cursusje initiatie internet enzo, toch nog heel wat terughoudendheid, juist omdat windows gewoon vertrouwd is. En de open source ideologie is natuurlijk moeilijk te verkopen aan iemand die gewoon op het internet wil kunnen en zijn mail wil lezen. Al blijf ik erbij dat er genoeg voordelen zijn van een Linux-besturingssysteem, zoals zijn beter beheer van geheugen, zijn stabiliteit en veiligheid. En uiteraard het feit dat zijn licenties zoveel simpeler zijn dan wat onze microsoftvrienden ervan hebben gemaakt :s. Echt, hoevelen van ons zijn op Linux overgestapt gewoon om wat te surfen en hun mail te lezen? Maar ja, ik stel me dan de vraag of het kwaad kan hen ook op de alternatieven te wijzen. Ik vind trouwens als ik soms artikelen lees dat onze noorderburen daar toch al iets verder in staan, daar staat open source toch al in zekere mate op de politieke agenda. En ja, Linux wordt nog vaak als iets voor geeks gezien, terwijl we toch al een heel eind zijn opgeschoven niet? Als je daar geen zin in hebt hoef je echt niks meer uit source op je systeem te compileren als gewone gebruiker. Maar ja, het blijft natuurlijk aanpassen als je gewend bent om een exe-file te zien staan of een c: en d: schijf en meer van die toestanden. Maar ja, is dat niet met alles zo? Als je een nieuwe wasmachine koopt kunnen de knopkes toch ook soms wel even anders geprogrammeerd zijn? (ok, misschien een slecht voorbeeld daar ik nooit de was doe :$). Nu, ik heb niks tegen Windows hoor, maar je mag niet vergeten dat alles gefinancieerd wordt met ONS belastingsgeld. Dus voor elke pc die buitengaat met die initiatief betalen wij allemaal mee.
