[ubuntu-in] Display boot messages in Ubuntu Lucid
Hi, Is there a way to make Ubuntu show messages while starting up instead of the splash screen? If I'm not wrong, in Karmic, pressing Alt+F1 displayed the boot messages. But in Lucid, Alt+F1 opens the terminal. -- Regards, Satish -- ubuntu-in mailing list ubuntu-in@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-in
[ubuntu-in] Java doesn't work in Firefox
I'm using Ubuntu Karmic 64 bit version. Java isn't working in Firefox. The applets either don't show up or are shown as a grey box. Sometimes Firefox hangs when the page has Java applets. I installed the latest JRE from java.com and am using libnpjp2.so from it. I can see the Java plugin in about:plugins (Java(TM) Plug-in 1.6.0_17). I tested in Chrome and Opera and Java works fine in them. Does anyone know what could be the problem? -- Regards, Satish -- ubuntu-in mailing list ubuntu-in@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-in

I'm still facing the problem in ubuntu 8.04 (upto date with repos). [Bug 242562] Re: slashdot comment options bar slows down scrolling
With the latest updates (Firefox 3.0.3), the scrolling has improved a bit, but is still noticeable in sites like: http://www.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Main/WebHome . The site has a menu at the top with position: fixed css property. I think that property is causing the jittery scrolling. If the position is set as relative, scrolling is smooth. -- slashdot comment options bar slows down scrolling https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/242562 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 238911] [NEW] [Hardy] Focus problem when Esc is hit while doing Alt+Tab
Public bug reported: Steps to reproduce: 1. Have 3 or more windows open. 2. When focus is in Window_1, press Alt+Tab. Say, focus goes to Window_2. 3. Now press Alt+Tab again. Tab on till Window_3 is highlighted in the switcher dialog. Do not release the Alt key and press the Esc key. Expected behaviour is that focus should remain on Window_2. But Window_1 is given focus. Not sure if this behaviour is as designed. But in versions prior to Hardy, when Esc is pressed, focus remains in the current window. Compiz is disabled. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: hardy -- [Hardy] Focus problem when Esc is hit while doing Alt+Tab https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/238911 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 155857] [Gutsy] Natuilus usability issue with location bar. Difficult to get focus on folder contents
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus The use case is this: 1. Open nautilus. Press Ctrl+L to go to location bar. 2. Enter a path (say /opt/). Press return key. 3. Contents inside /opt/ are shown. 4. Try to get focus of the /opt/ contents with down arrow key The results in Ubuntu 7.04 and 7.10 are these: Ubuntu 7.04 : pressing down arrow once or twice (I don't remember exactly) brought focus to the first file/folder. Ubuntu 7.10 : pressing down arrow brings focus to the toolbar containing Back, Forward and Up buttons (focus is brought to whichever button is in enabled state going from left to right). I'm not sure if the behaviour in 7.10 is as designed, but if I were try to get focus of the folder contents using only the keyboard, it would require pressing Tab 6 times, instead of pressing down arrow key once or twice (pressing down arrow is also easier, since the return key and down arrow are close by). ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- [Gutsy] Natuilus usability issue with location bar. Re: [ubuntu-in] Clean Install or Dist Upgrade - which is better
On 2/1/07, Onkar Shinde [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Dist upgrade will preserve your settings/profiles, properly upgrade your apps to newer version etc. A neat trick for preserving your settings is to have the /home folder on a separate partition. So even if the upgrade doesn't go well, you can do a fresh install on the root partition without disturbing the /home partition and most of the settings will be the same as before. When I did a fresh install for edgy over dapper, it looked exactly same as dapper as I had a separate partition for /home. -- Regards, Satish -- ubuntu-in mailing list ubuntu-in@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-in
