Maybe we could have a statement from Ubuntu about this rather serious
issue. xterm is not so funny to use if you are used to konsole.

[Bug 772311] [NEW] X freezes when maximizing konsole window

2011-04-28 Thread Yves Glodt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-core

When maximizing a konsole window, x freezes. It does no matter if the
meximize happens by pressing the maximize button, or double-clicking the
titlebar.

Happens since I upgraded to Natty today. Maverick did not have it.

[Bug 624739] Re: /etc/tomcat6 is created with the wrong permissions

2010-08-28 Thread Yves Glodt
Hi,

thanks for your explanation.

I have the same problem actually on other hosts not running OpenCms.

I suspect there must be something fishy in my service/engine/host
configuration (It should be changed to write to /etc/tomcat/Catalina/ as
you suggested for auto-deployment)

Best regards!

[Bug 624739] [NEW] /etc/tomcat6 is created with the wrong permissions

2010-08-26 Thread Yves Glodt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: tomcat6

This is on Ubuntu 10.04/amd64.

The folder /etc/tomcat6 must be writable by tomcat, since it (at least
on my setup) wants to create folders there for the configured services
and engines, e.g. in my case /etc/tomcat6/opencms/localhost.

The problem is that the folder is owned by root.root, whereas it should
be tomcat6.root.

Here an excerpt of my config:

Service name=opencms
...
Engine name=opencms defaultHost=localhost debug=99 jvmRoute=ubuntu2
Host name=localhost debug=99 appBase=/home/tomcat/opencms
unpackWARs=true autoDeploy=true /
/Engine
...

[Bug 609285] [NEW] plymouthd causes 25 wakeups

2010-07-23 Thread Yves Glodt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: plymouth

I observe plymouthd causing 25 wakeups/second on my up2date Maverick
install. This is Kubuntu in case it matters.

Look at the screenshot to see it. And look at the general number of
wakeups which is ridiculous.

p.s.
I remember times having 50 wakeups in total. Since some time Ubuntu drains my

[Bug 561789] [NEW] Freeze with KMS enabled on Radeon RV350

2010-04-12 Thread Yves Glodt
Public bug reported:

When I boot lucid with KMS enabled on my Acer Travelmate 8000 (which has
an Ati Mobility 9700 (RV350)), X get's corrupted and does not respond to
input anymore on KDM launch.

When I switch to a VT I see the following messages:

Mar 12 21:06:13 sparrow kernel: [ 120.041087] [drm:radeon_cs_ioctl] *ERROR*
Faild to schedule IB !
Mar 12 21:06:13 sparrow kernel: [ 120.053581] [drm:radeon_ib_schedule] *ERROR*

Mar 12 21:06:13 sparrow kernel: [ 120.053586] [drm:radeon_cs_ioctl] *ERROR*
Faild to schedule IB !
Mar 12 21:06:13 sparrow kernel: [ 120.053926] [drm:radeon_ib_schedule] *ERROR*
radeon: couldn't schedule IB(8).

(messages copied from https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-
xorg-video-ati/+bug/507148/comments/61 but mine are the same)

Somehow the nomodeset switch stopped working with the -18 kernel, so I
am forced to use the -17 as of now which works fine, provided I keep KMS
disabled. The -20 kernel does still not work with KMS btw.

My install of jaunty suffers as well of this bug.
What I do not really get is why canonical, who actually pay people to do make a

Or is it because in this particular case the package we talk about has been

Hmm :-) Until 3 days ago I used intrepid on my Vaio FW21E, with the

Although I could not enable KDE's desktop effects, overall drawing
performance seemed very good.

In jaunty, X uses more CPU and painting is much slower, in comparison. I
stopped using the fglrx driver a while ago since it causes too many
wakeups, and KDE 2D drawing performance was awful.

2009-03-16 Thread Yves Glodt
...since the kernel from jaunty seems to be not new enough regarding drm

radeon.ko modules using instructions
http://wiki.x.org/wiki/radeonhd%3Ar6xx_r7xx_branch, and now it works.

[Bug 275111] Re: knetworkmanager fails to start OpenVPN tunnel

2009-02-10 Thread Yves Glodt
kicking this into gear would indeed be nice...

Maybe I misunderstand the principles of ubuntus QA, and what upgrades of
a stable release distro mean, but imho it's at best not very
userfriendly if such a bug is not dealt with at all. At least it's just
a poor QA. What's the point of reporting the bug here at all? Should we
report it upstream instead?

[Bug 221265] Re: Can't lock preferences in Firefox 3.0 Beta 5

2009-01-12 Thread Yves Glodt
I need to use Hardy for at least 2 more years.

Just want to say that I am still unable to lock down certain
preferences in Ubuntu hardy in an way that will not be overwritten by a
package upgrade.

I added the following line to /etc/firefox-3.0/pref/firefox.js

pref(general.config.filename, local.cfg);

The file local.cfg is then loaded from /usr/lib/firefox-3.0.5/ ... which is
of course lost when the package gets upgraded.

Is there a way in ubuntu to provide a local configfile to force
preferences without it being overwritten by package upgrades?

[Bug 177895] Re: Kernel 2.6.24-2 causing ~1000 wakeups by Rescheduling Interrupts

2008-04-09 Thread Yves Glodt
Hello,

I use 2.6.24 on my T2300 dualcore laptop, with kubuntu hardy (without
opera), and also 2.6.24 on a PIII-3GHz with debian unstable. Note that I
do see Rescheduling Interrupts as well on my debian, but less often
and less intensive. Isn't this a pointer to that it's however a kernel
issue?

In gutsy I did not see that many wakeups neither on my laptop, I do not
remember having seen Rescheduling Interrupts at all in powertop...
Also, I dist-upgraded from gutsy to hardy, so my installed software is
basically the same.

[Bug 188803] Re: Most Icons Missing In KDE4 Kickoff Menu After Menu Update

2008-04-02 Thread Yves Glodt
I have a problem which is maybe related to this.

Since I upgraded to KDE4 on Gutsy, I can e.g. not find konqueror from
KDE4 in kickoff.

By typing konqueror in the search box, it finds Konqueror Webbrowser
(KDE3) and Konqueror Webbrowser (KDE4), but nothing happens when I
click on the Konqueror Webbrowser (KDE4). The one from KDE3 works as
expected.

The same is true for the firebird1.5-super-package.
As the reporter states I have to create the directory manually for getting

sudo mkdir -p /var/run/firebird/1.5
sudo chown firebird.firebird /var/run/firebird/1.5 -R

[Bug 20309] Re: Shouldn't run daemons when the relevant hardware is not present

Upgrading to upstream-version 2.7.6 will fix this. Quote from the hplip

- Replaced hpiod with the new HP Multi-Point Transport Driver (hpmud). Hpmud is
a shared library instead of a daemon.

This is even better, as even for HP users, there is no more daemon, and what is

[Bug 123865] Eclipse can not see tomcat installation

2007-07-03 Thread Yves Glodt
Public bug reported:

I have, in Feisty, installed sun-java6, eclipse, and tomcat 5.5, all
from the official Ubuntu repository.

The problem comes when I want to create a new Dynamic Web Project.

First you have to set up a target runtime. I want to choose tomcat 5.5
of course.

If I try to add a tomcat 5.5 runtime, eclipse tells me that the selected
directory (/usr/share/tomcat5.5) is not a valid
tomcat installation. Exact errormessage:

The Tomcat installation directory is not correct. It does not point to
a valid Tomcat installation.

Other people have the same bug with other distros as well:
http://www.eclipsezone.com/eclipse/forums/t23023.html
http://forum.exadel.com/viewtopic.php?p=17874
http://www.sabayonlinux.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7894

When I download and extract tomcat manually into a directory on my disk, and
point eclipse to it, it accepts it.
So I guess there is a packaging problem with the tomcat5.5 packages in Feisty.

[Bug 70216] Multimedia keys not working on old profile

2006-11-04 Thread Yves Glodt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kde

Some month ago I went from debian sid to dapper, and I conserved my home
partition, thus dapper used my .kde etc, and all this went well, none of
my settings were lost and I had no problems at all with dapper.

Then when edgy came, I of course upgraded, but the multimedia keys on my
keyboard are not working. Yesterday, out of curiosity I created a new
user, and logged into, and found the multimedia keys working. So there
must be something (kde setting?) in my own profile which prevents the
multimedia keys from working...

Let me know if you need any of my configfiles...

[Bug 68808] slow kdm/kde startup since upgrade to edgy

2006-10-29 Thread Yves Glodt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kde

Hello folks,

since I upgraded from dapper to edgy, from the moment
X starts until kdm is ready, almost 25 seconds pass.

Then, logging into KDE, takes another whoppy 15 seconds.

Note that on previously, on dapper, kdm launched almost
instantly (2-3 seconds), and KDE startup afterwards took
certainly no longer than 10 seconds...

I don't know to which package this really belongs, but
something seems to be wrong with Qt/kdm/KDE...

Apart of that, thanks for Edgy, it rocks.

[Bug 67219] Slow startup

2006-10-20 Thread Yves Glodt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdm

Hi,

I upgraded my laptop from kubuntu dapper to edgy, and now
it takes about 30 seconds from the moment X starts until I see the kdm login
screen.
Note that in dapper with kde 3.5.4 this took only a few seconds.

Tell me which additionnal information you need.

[Bug 67273] Eclipse fails to start

2006-10-20 Thread Yves Glodt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: eclipse

I upgraded from dapper to edgy early this week.
Wanted to try out eclipse, and apt-get install eclipse downloaded
some 100MB, but eventually failed to run:

I have the sun-java packages installed as well.

[Bug 37287] Re: No sound on Inspiron 9400 with Dapper

2006-08-16 Thread Yves Glodt
Yes, still no sound... but it seems to be fixed with the latest rc from
alsa

http://www.alsa-project.org/changes/v1-0-12rc1--v1-0-12rc2.txt :

- Fix/add support of Realtek ALC883 / ALC888 and ALC861 codecs

Someone reported that this fixed the problem for him... unfortunately I
don't remember whome nor where I read it.

After trying to migrate my dapper from ext3 to xfs I was confronted with this
bug... it is still reproducible in a fully updated dapper.
