Subject: [Bug 1030767] [NEW] Mouse keys page instructs users to click on things.
To: bkh...@gmail.com

Public bug reported:

My mouse broke the other day so I was looking up how to enable the
mouse keys. The page describing how to switch then on says:
If you have difficulties using a mouse or other pointing device, ...
1) Click the icon at the very right of the top panel ...

How can I click on something if I'm 'having difficulties' using the
mouse?

The page should also include instructions for doing it with just a
keyboard. I'm using XUbuntu, so I solved it by running 'xfce4
-accessiblity-settings' from the Terminal but I don't know what you
would do in normal Ubuntu.

Subject: [Bug 1030085] [NEW] Password protected menu has incorrect
usage of the --users tag
To: bkh...@gmail.com

Public bug reported:

At the page
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2/Passwords#Protecting_Menuentries,
Protecting Menuentries section there are following mistakes:

1. Adding Protection to Ubuntu Entries subsection
A piece of instruction reads

Add --users :

printf menuentry '${title}' ${CLASS} --users  {\n ${os}
${version}

Actually it should be --users \\

2. Adding Protection to Other Entries subsection
Instructions in the box read:

sudo sed 's/--class os /--class os --users /' -i /etc/grub.d/30_os-
prober

I think --users should also be changed as in the section above (I did
not test this).
The thing is that in case of plain menuentry instruction (without
printf) --users work fine. But if there's printf in front of it the
actual menuentry is generated in grub.cfg without those quotes. An
example of broken configuration is below:

menuentry 'Ubuntu, with Linux 3.2.0-27-generic-pae (recovery mode)'
--class ubuntu --class gnu-linux --class gnu --class os --users  {

This small issue actually broke my bootloader so I was not able to
quickly figure out what had happened.

Details about my installation as follows:

lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
Release:12.04

** Affects: ubuntu-docs (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided

To: bkh...@gmail.com

Thank you for using Ubuntu and taking the time to report a bug.

Users in the lpadmin system group are allowed to configure printers, so
it is expected that you were allowed to configure your printer.

If you'd like to report your desktop not correctly configuring your
printer, please do so in a new bug.

Bug description:
After updating my desktop PC to 12.04, I am unable to print anything.
The system appears to recognise the printer but nothing gets printed.
Have several times deleted and added the printer - following the
  installation instructions. No result.

Have also updated to 12.04 on a netbook, and this device picked up on
the printer when connected and went off on its own and found a driver
which I was then prompted to accept the installation of via a terminal
window. This did not happen with the PC. Able to print OK with the
  netbook.

Of some concern - during this process on the netbook I was prompted to
enter username and admin password on a separate pop up window.
Several entries ( all correct ) were all rejected as incorrect but
this did not prevent printer installation.

May be a few problems here.

OK. A feedback from NFS community indicates that, the reason why
replacing /some-dir with /export/some-dir solved the problem was that,
NFSv4 client failed to find the right path on NFS server, so it fell
 back to NFSv2.

However, in the reply from mail list(http://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-
nfs/msg31326.html ), Bruce also mentioned an outdated part in this
document. Following is the quoted text:

The advice to use fsid=0 in the ubuntu howto is out of date. With a
recent server you should just export and mount /export/tigers as you
 would with NFSv3.

   SettingUpNFSHowTo possible mistake

Status in “ubuntu-docs” package in Ubuntu:
   New

 Bug description:
In NFSv4 client section, Note that nfs-server:/export is not
necessary in NFSv4 is probably not true.

I have a 32 nodes KVM cluster. NFS, host filesystem, KVM storage pool,
are all placed on SSD. KVM guests are connected to host through virtio
   drived GB ethernet.

I followed this guide to configure NFS:
   https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SettingUpNFSHowTo

The problem was that, when I execute a program simultaneously (through
cssh) on 32 nodes, there were always a number of nodes that
encountered input/output error. The /var/log/messages on client
shows state manager failed on NFSv4 server with error 10022.

Interestingly, by changing the item in /etc/fstab from:
   some-host:/some-dir/nfsnfsrw,bg,hard,intr00
   into:
   some-host:/export/some-dir/nfsnfsrw,bg,hard,intr0
 0
   fixed the problem.

I don't know how exactly this happens. It's probably caused by some
problem in NFS server when it tries to find the right path when all 32
clients are trying to mount NFS at the same time.
It's probably a bug in NFS but before it is fixed in NFS, should the Wiki
give the instruction that /export is necessary?

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read How to report bugs effectively
 http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
 http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

 At a minimum, we need:
 1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
 problem,
 2. the behavior you expected, and
 3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Also, please execute the following command, as it will automatically
gather debugging information, in a terminal:

   apport-collect 1017008

2012/6/25, Tomas Cassidy 589...@bugs.launchpad.net:
I've noticed that the following help docs for Ubuntu 11.04, 10.04 and
8.04, all linked from help.ubuntu.com, are still using the old theme.

 https://help.ubuntu.com/8.04/index.html
 https://help.ubuntu.com/10.04/index.html
 https://help.ubuntu.com/11.04/installation-guide/index.html
 https://help.ubuntu.com/11.10/installation-guide/index.html

The Ubuntu 8.04 Server Guide, located at
 https://help.ubuntu.com/8.04/serverguide/index.html, does not have any
theme active, so it currently displays as just black text on white
 background.

In addition, the Ubuntu 11.10 Desktop Help guide, located at
 https://help.ubuntu.com/11.10/ubuntu-help/index.html, is showing half
the page text in a different language (which Google Translate
 identified for me as Catalan).

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Issues with Ubuntu Mirrors (the servers from which you
download packages) should be reported to mirr...@ubuntu.com and not on
 Launchpad.

To workaround this issue, please change your sources list to point to
 the main server.

 Thanks in advance!

Not an issue in ubuntu-docs, reassigning. As the wireless does not
appear to be working properly I'll guess that this is a problem with the
driver and assign to the linux package.
