Not sure if its related, but after a reboot I now have no sound. aplay
-l reports no soundcard found, when it worked fine before.

Installation du pilote de la carte réseau.

2011-09-28 Thread Bro coly

http://www.intellinuxwireless.org/?n=Downloads
Cependant, étant un débutant sur linux, je ne vois pas la démarche à suivre
pour pouvoir installer le pilote.

Merci d'avance pour votre aide.

[Bug 764195] Re: laptop screen blacklight brightness always at 100% (even on battery), can't be lowered

2011-05-13 Thread bro
Unfortunately none of the above worked for me. I have been able to use
the intel drivers for integrate graphics only by using the script from
comment #7 http://piotr.gabryjeluk.pl/dev:ubuntu-11-04-natty-on-sony-
vaio-sz640

This was necessary because nvidia drivers presence apparently breaks the
3d support from the intel.

Also, when using the nvidia card I the 'additional drivers' kept
insisting that the nvidia driver was installed, but not in use. I
thought I might be using nouveau by accident, but I've removed it and
still it was denying the use of the proprietary driver (though compiz
support was there)

2011-05-12 Thread bro
I just received the W520 lenovo with quadro 1000m from nvidia and
installed ubuntu 11.04.

I cannot change the screen brightness. What's worse: If I try with the Fn
shortcuts my screen freezes and I need a hard reboot (!).
Bios has graphics set to discrete only.

Re: [Bug 275998] Re: audio recording very silent

2008-12-12 Thread bro
I'm using a dell and didn't have this problem with 8.04 32-bit (now using
8.10 64-bit). Isn't pulse-audio in 8.04 to? Then downgrading might work
(either ALSA and/or Pulse) to see which of them causes the problem.
Somewhat strangly, an external mic does work - I cannot alter the input
level correctly though and it is quite loud.

On Fri, Dec 12, 2008 at 8:46 AM, Rocko rockoreq...@hotmail.com wrote:

I tried BIOS A12 and it hasn't made any difference - alsa still didn't
detect a digital capture volume control.

I did, however, manage to make alsa-mixer show a digital volume capture
control by copying the definition across from Hardy into the
/etc/asound.state file, doing a sudo alsactl restore, and restarting
 alsa-utils.

However, the control thus created has absolutely no effect on recording
level. So it seems it is possible to fool alsa/pulseaudio into thinking
there's a control even though it doesn't write changes correctly back to
the sound card when you adjust the control.

[Bug 290505] Re: [intrepid] digital microphone sensitivity control is missing

2008-11-22 Thread bro
I have XPS 1330 with built in mic. Worked fine with 8.04 (32-bit) and
works with some (to much) tinkering in 8.10. However I have the same
bug, it is way to soft in the pick up. The mic I can plug in however is
quite loud and can't be regulated properly too: if it's all the way down
it's still quite loud. This last thing is however much less of a
problem, the internal mic is just useless like this.

[Bug 289478] [NEW] cannot remove knetworkmanager after failed install kubuntu-desktop

2008-10-26 Thread bro
Public bug reported:

 cannot (un)install/remove kubuntu and knetworkmanager
I'm working on Intrepid. Gnome works fine. I thought I'd try to:

[CODE]
sudo aptitude install kubuntu-desktop
[/CODE]
That installed a lot of KDE stuff but not the desktop. In synaptic the
kubuntu-desktop remained in status uninstalled. On reboot I couldn't select KDE
even though I tried to install kubuntu-desktop from synaptic. It did start
knetworkmanager in Gnome (which didn't work)

Since it didn't work anyway I uninstalled a lot of KDE packages via
synaptic to get rid of them.

On reboot however it started knetworkmanager again (which still didn't
work). I just put turned it off in Sessions because I cannot uninstall
it. Synaptic thinks it is unintalled! and sudo aptitude purge
knetworkmanager offered to uninstall a bunch more kde packages. But
knetworkmanager is still installed!

[CODE]
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ whereis knetworkmanager
knetworkmanager: /usr/bin/knetworkmanager
/usr/share/man/man1/knetworkmanager.1.gz

1. How do I uninstall knetworkmanager?
2. How to find out if there are more packages installed that apt and synaptic
don't show?
3. Can this database from apt/synaptic be rebuild somehow?
4. Why did apt and synaptic at some point show contradictory information?
5. Why does Synaptic still not show a list of 'installed programs ordered by
install date' so that it is easy to remove the last installed packages?'

[Bug 223238] Re: Extremely slow Ajax/Javascript/CSS performance in Firefox 3 using non-free nvidia-glx-new

2008-09-22 Thread bro
You can read interesting things that might help you here:
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=118088
You are using driver version 169, I'd advice to at least install a later driver
via envyng.
For me the command mentioned in above thread made everything very workable:
~$ nvidia-settings -a InitialPixmapPlacement=2

Re: [Bug 223238] Re: Extremely slow Ajax/Javascript/CSS performance in Firefox 3 using non-free nvidia-glx-new

2008-09-08 Thread bro
Sorry but I really resist the logic from Vadim Peretokin and others that the
bug is nvidia's because it works well with ati. If a site works well in IE
is it a bug in firefox if it doesn't work there?

Surely something might need improvement in Nvidia's drivers. But lots and
lots of people have these cards and if there's a browser that performs bad
with lots and lots of people that just means there is something you need to
fix. That's not open source versus proprietary, but open source versus buggy
reality.

2008-08-29 Thread bro
I can confirm the bug too. But I cannot reasonably ascribe to Nvidia.
Opera works, as does Firefox and IE7 under windows in a virtual machine.
Blaming it on the first thing proprietary seems a bit dull to me.

Re: [Bug 189814] Re: [hardy]computer and touchpad is buggy when running on battery

2008-06-09 Thread bro
I can confirm Andrea's findings 100% it sums it up for me completely.
Especially that there is no relation between inplugging / outplugging of the
battery.
On the side, my now 80% complete switch to mandriva to avoid this bug
learned me that (k)ubuntu should drastically improve its kde integration...

I any testing on a dell needs done I'm available with a D830.

when it starts it freezes everything for some seconds, CPU usage get to

4 dmesg entry psmouse.c: GlidePoint at isa0060/serio1/input0 lost

5 many people are having this problem, someone also on fedora, someone
since 2.6.15, mostly on dell laptops.

I think I could get to reproduce it anytime I want, so I can produce any
debug/crash information. Just tell me what to do and I'll do it.

2008-06-03 Thread bro
@Andrea, I'm pretty sure I don' t have this problem with Mandriva 2008.1
(kernel 2.6.24-?) So it might not be Ubuntu specific, It might also not
be 'kernel general'.

[Bug 189814] Re: [hardy]computer and touchpad is buggy when running on battery

2008-05-18 Thread bro
Hi, a discussion started here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=4986873#post4986873 with people having
similar problems on Dell D830.
I don't have this problem related to plugging/unplugging just with leaving it
for a few minutes. Example when playing music standalone cpu peaks and sound
stutters for several seconds. This, however, happened too several times when
playing video (flash or mplayer alike) while I was working in another window.

Re: [Bug 102633] Re: gnome / xserver doesn't start from live cd

2007-12-04 Thread bro
In 7.10 this is solved. In the mentioned laptop everything works but the
mic-input (which has never worked with linux).
I will never buy an ati card again - no matter how much they say they
improve their drivers. I'm generally a forgiving person though.
