[Bug 90271] Re: Regression: RealTek 8139 hard-locks system on installation/modprobe (affects Averatec, Philips laptops)

2007-03-31 Thread el3ktro
I'm having the same problem on my Averatec 2460 laptop. Adding
acpi=noirq doesn't help. I'm now running Gentoo with 8139too in PIO
mode, recompiling the kernel with 8319too in MMIO mode gives me an
unbootable system. Any changes that this gets fixed? I wasn't able to
install any of the last 3 Ubuntu releases!

[Bug 64048] Re: LiveCD doesn't boot on Averatec 2460 Intel Core Duo, RTL8139 NIC

2007-03-31 Thread el3ktro
Unfortunately acpi=noirq doesn't help. I'm trying to resolve this bug
for months now, in fact since Ubuntu 6.04, and NOTHING helps. Running
Gentoo with a custom kernel and 8139too in PIO mode works flawlessly
though - but I want Ubuntu back! Any chances to get this fixed for
Feisty?

[Bug 64048] Re: LiveCD doesn't boot on Averatec 2460 Intel Core Duo, RTL8139 NIC

2007-03-29 Thread el3ktro
Hi,
hmm I can only attach the output of lspci and dmesg running Gentoo with a
custom kernel. When I compile 8139too with PIO mode it works, if I compile it
with MMIO mode, Gentoo hangs during boot.

Perhaps I just add that all Feisty releases so far also won't boot -
they also hang as soon as 8139too is loaded.

[Bug 98717] Kernel module 8139too in MMIO mode freezes system on Intel 945GM chipsets

2007-03-29 Thread el3ktro
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.20-9-generic

When booting Breezy, Dapper, Edgy or Feisty, the LiveCD would freeze
during boot as soon as the 8139too module for the RTL8139 NIC is loaded.
Further investigating the problem with a custom Gentoo install, it turns
out that 8139too compiled with MMIO mode enabled freezes the system,
while 8139too with PIO mode enabled works flawlessly.

This problem prevents installing Ubuntu or even running the LiveCD on
laptops using the Intel 945GM chipset and a RTL8139 NIC. This problem
now occurs with several generations of Ubuntu. Since I can't disable the
NIC in the BIOS, and there's no way to tell Ubuntu to not load a certain
module via a kernel command line option, there's no way at all to
install Ubuntu.

[Bug 64048] LiveCD doesn't boot on Averatec 2460 Intel Core Duo, RTL8139 NIC

2006-10-04 Thread el3ktro
Public bug reported:

As Dapper, Edgy won't even boot on my Averatec 2460. It has an Intel
Core Duo CPU, Intel 945GM chipset, Intel GMA950 graphics and an RTL8139
onboard NIC. The problem is most likely due to the RTL8139 chip. The
module 8139too has two modes: PIO and MMIO. In MMIO mode that Ubuntu
uses it doesn't work, but when I install Breezy first, then update to
Dapper and re-compile the Dapper kernel as-is, except with PIO mode
enabled for 8139too, it works. I also have to disable loading of sd_hci
in the Dapper kernel to successfully boot. This is pretty severe,
because it prevents Dapper, Edgy from being installed or even run from
the LiveCD at all on some new but not exotic hardware.

[Bug 59627] Intel Core Duo 50% load with powernowd running

2006-09-09 Thread el3ktro
Public bug reported:

I have an Averatec 2460 with Intel Core Duo T2300, Intel 945GM chipset.
When powernowd is running on an 2.6.15-26-686 kernel both CPUs have a
constant load of around 50%, the fan is always on. The system sometimes
lags a little. Top or gnome-system-monitor don't show any processes
consuming so much CPU time. When I stop powernowd and powernowd.early
then CPU load drops to around 5-8% on both CPUs which still is somewhat
high but much better.

[Bug 59626] Ubuntu Dapper can't be installed

2006-09-09 Thread el3ktro
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kernel-image-2.6.15-26-386-di

I have an Averatec 2460, Intel Core Duo, Intel 945GM chipset, Intel GMA
950 graphics, onboard Realtek 8139 NIC. Ubuntu and many other distros
fail to install, it hangs at hardware detection. I managed to install
Breezy and upgrade to Dapper. The Dapper kernel (2.6.15-26) won't boot.
The reason is the 8139too module used for the NIC. If I re-compile the
Dapper kernel and the 8139too module with Use PIO instead of MMIO set
then it works.

This is a serious bug because a single module prevents Dapper from
installing at all!
