Conclusion for now: If the bios of the laptop has a serial port enabled, the described error does not occur, the card got it's own devicenode from udev. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: network-manager Description:Ubuntu 10.10 Release:10.10 I'm using a merlin novatel u530 umts card on my thinkpad x41, better i tried to use it. When inserted udev creates over serial_cs the devicenode /dev/MerlinUMTS. Network-Manager, better modem-manager asks for the pin and let the card succesfull enter the carriers network. When i create a broadband connection within nm i got adhoc a gsm connection detached. Using gnome-ppp and the ubuntu wiki for novatel u740 to /dev/MerlinUMTS i can go online without any problem, cause i can set proper modem commands there. In the 10.10 network manager there are no options to set any modem commands, i feel this is a bug. The merlin u530 is a umts broadband card and so it should work with nm's broadband functions. Running ubuntu 10.10 with the 1.9.0 git banshee. Library was full removed, then reread everything 3 times. I only found dupes from various files that totally normal to me. I checked the files and folders but the dupes did not exist on the disk, others players like exaile, guayadeque, rythmbox, gmusicbrowser choose exactly the same files for dubbing. Maybe the gnome-engine that reads the tags are buggy? The same procedure on another laptop that was updated from 10.04 desktop to 10.10 desktop edition. Architecture: i386 Version: 162-2.2 Something in 10.10 is missing or not included if a machine was installed from scratch with perfect ten. The merlin card asks for the pin and jumps inside gsm or umts on this machine. The nm cannot get online, but this is another problem that match not the basic problem above. Can this bug caused by the gstreamer-plugins? As you see above one song is not duplicated and have another filedate. All players use gstreamer-plugins to read the songs and all players duplicate the songs but one. So does easytag, when reading the affected folder the not duplicated song is black but the others appears red. For the usb subsystem and banshee my f480 / intenso musicwalker are only usb sticks now, Both get only the usb stick symbol an no more playersymbol on the desktop. The players did not recognize them as player devices, if there is no .is_audio_player file defined. The intenso works up to ubuntu 10.04 as mtp device and player, now it needs a .is_audio_player too. Does not matter which dvd, i have many dvd concerts and viewed them well up to ubuntu 9.xx versions. I added tsched as described, now i can only record silence from line-in
with audacity and sound-recorder, while the sound is live hearable.
Switching to pulse as input i can record clear sound that pulse play

With tsched=0 i did a fresh recording from line in with sound-recorder, no stutter while playing and listening. Important info, the timing of the waves are okay. The inserted silenced samples are muted while recording, not inserted in the full stream. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: libpam-thinkfinger Maverick 10.10 Unity i386 I followed this guide https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ThinkFinger to install thinkfinger on my thinkpad x41. The guide is outdated, there seems to be more work to get it full running. The console learning phase works well, the system knows my fingerprint now. But i only get the thinkfinger login in network-manager settings and user groups settings. Everywhere else i can only use the password, in gdm there is no way to use thinkfinger. While playing every player shows a jumping counter when a stutter occurs. When recording this, you get large seconds of silence that shows a inconsistency between timing and played samples. NOTE AGAIN: Win does not do this, althoug has the same usb ohci's shared. Sound under windows is brightly clear, with earlier kernel and the realtek-alsa driverpackage everthing was fine. With 2.6.35 i cannot compile the realtek drivers to fix the problem. With kernel alsa the sound creates click, stutter and blobs like a really dirty cd. 16: 0 0 6 1062 IO-APIC-fasteoi ohci_hcd:usb3, ohci_hcd:usb4, hda_intel I have located the usb connectors group 3 and 4 and removed everything from them, the stutter is still alive. Got exactly this on my thinkpad x41. Unable to install netbook, desktop, alternate 10.10, 10.04. The error loop runs a while, then the system hangs up completely. Unable to get a live system running through this bug, only when removing the harddisk i can live boot to a desktop. [Bug 660924] [NEW] Thinkpad X41 - SRST failed errno=-16 no boot with install media
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: linux-image Hardware: Thinkpad X41 2525-F8G with hitachi htc426040 disk drive. Controller is intel ich6-m with an marvel 88sa8040 p-ata bridge. Tryed install media: ubuntu i386 desktop 10.10, 10.04. unity netbook 10.10, 10.04, alternate 10.10 After setup screen an a short boot the system is dead, without quiet i see 3 times. Can deliver a foto but no logs cause it is not possible to get a live system up. ata1: port is slow to respond, please be patient (Status 0x90) ata3: SRST failed (errno=-16) Thinkwiki told that this hardware runs well with kernel 2.6.15 and up, this seems not to be true http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Problems_with_SATA_and_Linux Meantime i have partitioned and formatted the harddisk with an usb adapter on my 10.04 desktop. Ubuntu 10.10 lubuntu on eee 901. Updated from 10.04 lubuntu i got this error, dpkg sees no error but the eee is in unusable state now. The en- and dycryption is broken, no write access to old and new created homes. I'm very happy that i create a root account so i can maintain some things without login. Further information: When ssh'ing from outside or using a local tty with user account the ecryptfs unlocks well. But login at gui did not do this, nothing can be clicked and the menu is empty.
