[Ubuntu-be] Dipro Ghent 05/09 preliminary report
Hi all, This is just a short report about the Dipro fair this weekend: - Since it was a sunny day, not a lot of people showed up. Morning was busy, afternoon was not. - Mathias did not show up, not sure why. Joris and Mike left around 12, so only Jan and myself where available. - Had contact with people from PCVO Ghent. They organise Linux courses but use SuSE . - Collected €20 (a little more, but this will be kept in the collection urn) thanks to selling one t-shirt. Lukily we didn't need to buy writable CDs, thanks to originals provided by Jan. - Not sure how many CDs where distributed. In the EU, we don't have any software patents, so we as EU citizens don't have to worry about using/implementing some incarnation of sudo/gksudo/kdesudo. Next to that, it can - and if necessary, will - be proven that the "privilege elevation mechanism" is based on prior art. This means that whenever Microsoft tries to sue someone over using/implementing sudo (and inflicting their so called pattent), it will be proven in court that this mechanism existed already back in the seventies on mainframes. Please read the comments on groklaw which go further into detail on this matter.
