[Bug 188146] Re: Battery is Charged notification shows at wrong time

2009-03-05 Thread marco.pallotta
I tested the issue on Intrepid Live CD and the issue is present in the way in
which the message battery is charged is never displayed.
By default the notification icon is only displayed when charging and discharing
process runs, so when the battery is fully charged the icon disappears and no
message battery is charged is shown.
If you enable the permanently displaying of notification icon, when the battery
is fully charged (you realize this moving the mouse pointer over the icon) the
icon doesn't change its status (it seems that the charging process isn't
terminated) and no message is displayed.

[Bug 156472] Re: Allow CPUFREQ chooser in gnome-power-manager UI.

2009-03-05 Thread marco.pallotta
The bug is still present in Hardy and Intrepid.
I have read in bug #292148 that upstream have removed all of the cpufreq code
in gnome-power-manager for Intrepid. I don't know if this is correct as an
explanation about this wasn't given in that bug report.
Anyway I think that Ubuntu should allow a user to choose cpu freq by default
and not forcing him to spend (as I also did) much time to find a solution via
web to this simple issue.

[Bug 337988] [NEW] services-admin says that a service is started but its /etc/default/ file has enabled = 0

2009-03-04 Thread marco.pallotta
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools

If I open services-admin I can read, for example, that apport is started but
this is not true as /etc/default/apport has the entry enabled=0. I think this
is misleading for a normal user as he doesn't know that, for every service,
to check if it has started or not, he has to go to cli and check /etc/default
files for enabled entries.
I think services-admin should also read enable entry for a certain service (not
only rc.d) and, if necessary, it should modify it if the user want to start the
service.
For me it's a usability bug.

Tested with Ubuntu Hardy and gnome-system-tool 2.22.0-0ubuntu9s

Moreover I can confirm the bug in Hardy (I tested this on a fresh

[Bug 336452] [NEW] if you add file or directory in include tab, after having changed some of the entries, you have to save and the reload sbackup

double click on the name and then typing the modification) then you
cannot insert new entries if you don't save and the reload sbackup. In
fact after you have changed an entry and then you try to add a file or
directory, the corresponding window to add one of the two elements is
correctly opened but when you press the open button nothing happens
(moreover after having pressed open, and obtained that no file or
directory can be added, you only have to click on the x part of the
window, in the right upper corner of the window title bar, to close it

close the window).

[Bug 331478] Re: automatically synchronize remote mail locally seems to not work all the time

2009-02-27 Thread marco.pallotta
I did some other tests and it seems that the problem (in Hardy as I
hadn't time yet to test it in Intrepid too) is that, for some reasons,
the emails downloaded (as I did a manually sync) disappears in the
filesystem. In fact in my Ubuntu folders, in the filesystem, after the
syncing (some days ago), I had over 1030 mails (and this is ok as I
could read in evolution) but today I only have about 500 emails (but in
Evolution I can still read over 1030 emails), so this is why may emails
cannot be recovered (that is because Evolution cannot find them in
filesystems so it have to downloaded them again).

[Bug 331478] Re: automatically synchronize remote mail locally seems to not work all the time

2009-02-25 Thread marco.pallotta
Well, in short, the issue is that if I set automatically synchronize remote
mail locally evolution should automatically download all the emails locally so
I can read them in off-line mode.
I have seen that not always this happens automatically. A workaround to this
is, when the connection is still active, to go to off-line mode, then at this
point evolution asks to you if you want to sync all your folders (I think this
option should be only useful if you haven't the option automatically
synchronize remote mail locally set), and you have to reply sync.

[Bug 73750] Re: After hibernate: Battery not correctly recognized/displayed in Panel applet

2009-02-25 Thread marco.pallotta
The same issue happens in Hardy and I think this bug is present since
2006 (see also bug #159407, opened on 2007, and marked as invalid
because of lacking of info).

1) I start the PC with battery plugged in:

ma...@dominus:/proc/acpi/ac_adapter/ACAD$ cat state
state: off-line
ma...@dominus:/proc/acpi/ac_adapter/ACAD$ cat ../../battery/BAT1/state
present: yes
capacity state: ok
charging state: discharging
present rate:1574 mA
remaining capacity: 879 mAh
present voltage: 10730 mV

2) I hibernate the PC
3) I unplug the battery and I plug-in in the ac-power
4) I startup the PC
5)

ma...@dominus:/proc/acpi/ac_adapter/ACAD$ cat ../../battery/BAT1/state
present: yes
capacity state: ok
charging state: charged
present rate:0 mA
remaining capacity: 0 mAh
present voltage: 0 mV

ma...@dominus:/proc/acpi/ac_adapter/ACAD$ cat state
state: on-line

You will see that at last the ac-power is recognized as on-line (and this is
ok) but also the battery is recognized as present (and this is not ok).
The gnome-power-manger plugin still shows battery icon even if, if you move the
mouse cursor over the icon, you can read that the PC is running with ac-power
and the battery state cannot be read at that moment.

The same issue, but obviously in the opposite way, happens if you start,
at first, the PC with ac-power and then, after hibernation, you plug-in
the battery and you unplug ac-power.

[Bug 330569] Re: seahorse should prompt for creating a revocation certificate after having created private and public keys

2009-02-25 Thread marco.pallotta
Andreas, the gnome-bugs 335403 is not related to the request I made as
it relates to signature revoking and not to the creation of a revocation
certificate for your own personal private key. So I opened a new request
in upstream.

[Bug 332893] [NEW] jamendo search doesn't find some artists

2009-02-22 Thread marco.pallotta
Public bug reported:

[Bug 331478] [NEW] automatically synchronize remote mail locally seems to not work all the time

2009-02-19 Thread marco.pallotta
Public bug reported:

I have an imap account sync with gmail and I set automatically synchronize
remote mail locally to have the ability to read email even when I use
evolution in offline mode. But I have noticed that not all the emails were
downloaded so I think this option doesn't work all the time.
In fact if I go to off-line mode (I click on the icon in the bottom left part
of the client) evolution askes to me if I want to sync my folders but I reply
not sync as I already set automatically synchronize remote mail locally
(that is the emails should be completely downloaded and not only the header,
subject, and so on as it happens in the default mode) so the emails should be
already sync. But if I want to read them, some are downloaded others not. But
if I select sync evolution starts to sync all my emails and all are readable
in offline mode too.

[Bug 330561] [NEW] seahorse should allow to export/import private key

2009-02-17 Thread marco.pallotta
Public bug reported:

I think seahorse should allow to also export private key while, actually, you
can only export public key or the entire keyrings (so to only recover private
key you have to export the entire keyrings, uncompress it, and then import the
entire secret.gpg file which seems to contains either public or private key).
It should be, obviously, useful to warn before exporting private key (see bug
#269403).

[Bug 330569] [NEW] seahorse should prompt for creating a revocation certificate after having created private and public keys

2009-02-17 Thread marco.pallotta
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: seahorse

Seahorse seems not to have a tool to create a revocation certificate which is
an fundamental step after having created private and public key. In fact this
is a security issue (you can read this in all gpg guides) as if your key was
compromised, or you lose you personal passwd, you can only inform the world
about this revoking the key with a revocation certificate.
I think it should be useful to prompt for creating the revocation certificate
just after having created you own private and public key (this option should be
obvioulsy always provided also after this initial step)

[Bug 330867] [NEW] computertemp correctly shows internal temperatures but doesn't say at which component they refer to

2009-02-17 Thread marco.pallotta
Public bug reported:

In my Hardy Heron, computertemp applet (version 0.9.6.1), after installing
lm-sensors, correctly detect internal temperatures (if I let the muse pointer
over the applet I can see all the detected temperatures) but doesn't say at
which component (CPU, Sys, and so on) the are associated to. To see this I have
to launch the command sensors via cli.
In the computertemp properties I see that the applet detected the sensor
monitor Kernel i2c sensors (hwmon) and in the Thermal Zone I can select
hwmon0 (1), hwmon0 (2), hwmon0 (3), hwmon1 (1) , hwmon2 (1), hwmon3 (1) ,
hwmon4 (1) that seem to correspond to the temperatures displayed when I let the
mouse pointer over the applet and seem also to correspond to the number of
temperatures displayed by the command sensors.

I dont' know if bug watches run ok as the bug 571645 was marked as

so the gnome bug status should have been marked as invalid at least two
days ago).

[Bug 329870] [NEW] slideshow should always start from oldest photos to newest regardless of view modality

2009-02-15 Thread marco.pallotta
Public bug reported:

If I don't select opposite order as photos view modality (view - opposite
order), that is f-spot displays photos starting from newest to oldest,
slideshow should always run in opposite order modality, that is from oldest
photos to newest. Actually, if you don't select opposite order, slideshow
start from newest photos to oldest. I think this is not a natural way of
viewing photos in slideshow.
Another way could be providing an option to select a reverse order to slideshow
modality too.

[Bug 328771] Re: seahorse permits to sign public key even if already signed

2009-02-13 Thread marco.pallotta
Well, once a key is signed you souldn't have the ability to sign it again, is
misleading.
If you want to revoke a sign you should only press the button revoke a
signature.

For seahorse the only valid reason that you could have to sign a key again is
to change some parameter as how carefully have you checked this key? How other
will see this signature?
But why not to place these options outside the signature window?
Why have I to select how carefully have I checked the key? If I sign a key it
means that I have verified the ownership of that key (I think the options not
at all casually very carefully are only a personal memo that don't affect
the signing process).

[Bug 328973] [NEW] cannot close key properties widnow of the key that signed my public key

2009-02-13 Thread marco.pallotta
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: seahorse

My public key was signed by another key (in this case the keys are owned both
by me but obviously they are stored in two different PC and keyrings).
Now if I go to My personal keys tab, I select my personal key, I open the key
properties (1), I go to Names and Signatures tab, under the key list I see my
key and, moreover, I correctly see the other key that has signed it.
If I want to open the properties of this last key I simply double-click on it
and the property window (2) was correctly opened with the tab Owner.
The bug is that if I want to switch to the other tab Trust and Details of
this last property window I cannot do this.
Moeover I cannot close this child property window, but I can do this only after
having closed the property window of my key (the first property window (1) that
I opened, that is the parent window). This is absurd as a child window should
be close before the parent window and not viceversa.

[Bug 328735] Re: a key is put in trusted keys without it is signed

2009-02-13 Thread marco.pallotta
Yes, it's reproducible.

- open seahorse
- press find remote keys
- search a key and import it (the key is put under other collected keys tab)
- open the property window of the imported key
- go to trust tub
- check I have checked that this key belongs to '.'
- close the property window
- you will see that the imported key is put under trusted keys tab

This is wrong for me, as I haven't signed it yet and the signing is
mandatory to set a key trusted.

[Bug 304551] Re: seahorse: signing should be disabled when key is already signed

2009-02-13 Thread marco.pallotta
Well, the options not at all casually very Carefully included in the
signing window are not related to trust level (you have to change the trust
level into the details tab of the key property window), and for me are
related to nothing. I think they are useless info.
Moreover, as I already say in bug #328771 I think the options how others will
see this signature in the signing window can easly moved outside this dialog
so there should be no reason to sign again a key (this should solve the issue
described in this post description Moreover if I re-sign the key, seahorse
shows me again the sign window but this time without re-typing the passwd)

[Bug 328735] Re: a key is put in trusted keys without it is signed

2009-02-13 Thread marco.pallotta
Sebastien, I read many times that key signing and, if I am not wrong, is a
process that permits to you to validate a key (that is you hare sure that the
owner of the key is right). Then, based on the signature, you can trust the
owner of the key assigning trust level from 1 (don't know) to 4 (I trust fully).
I think trusting a user key without signing is not useful as I declare that I
don't know if the key is valid or not.

From gpg mini howto
(http://dewinter.com/gnupg_howto/english/GPGMiniHowto-3.html#ss3.6)

3.6 Key signing

As mentioned before in the introduction there is one major Achilles'
heel in the system. This is the authenticity of public keys. If you have
a wrong public key you can say bye bye to the value of your encryption.
To overcome such risks there is a possibility of signing keys. In that
case you place your signature over the key, so that you are absolutely
positive that this key is valid. This leads to the situation where the
signature acknowledges that the user ID mentioned in the key is actually
the owner of that key. With that reassurance you can start encrypting.

Using the gpg --edit-key UID command for the key that needs to be signed
you can sign it with the sign command.

You should only sign a key as being authentic when you are ABSOLUTELY
SURE that the key is really authentic!!!. So if you are positive you got
the key yourself (like on a key signing party) or you got the key
through other means and checked it (for instance by phone) using the
fingerprint-mechanism. You should never sign a key based on any
assumption.

Based on the available signatures and ownertrusts GnuPG determines the
validity of keys. Ownertrust is a value that the owner of a key uses to
determine the level of trust for a certain key. The values are

* 1 = Don't know
* 2 = I do NOT trust
* 3 = I trust marginally
* 4 = I trust fully

If the user does not trust a signature it can say so and thus disregard the
signature. Trust information is not stored in the same file as the keys, but in
a separate file.

[Bug 328735] Re: a key is put in trusted keys without it is signed

2009-02-13 Thread marco.pallotta
Michael I know that trusting and signing are technically two separate
processes, but I also say again that from a logical point of view trusting
should follow signing, that is I should assign a trust judgement to key (that
is to person) that I know that are valid (that is the owner of that key is the
person that I think he should be).
The only reason I see to let the user to trust a key without signing it is
related to a scenario in which the user (owner of the keyring) wants to assign
trust judgements to people that he knows using the keys that are related to
these people regardless to the fact that these key are really valid or not.
That is collecting a sort of people trust list. In this scenario however that
dangerous thing is that if the user discovers that a key isn't valid he
should delete it but doing this he should also delete the trust judgement to
that person; to the other side, in order to preserve trust judgement, he
shouldn't delete the key once discovered that it isn't valid, but doing this he
should have in his keyrings not valid keys in which either keys not yet checked
for validity or keys already checked for validity (but not deleted) should
cohabit togheter.
I think actual situation is misleading for the user and not very useful.

[Bug 326841] Re: it's not possibile to create a message with pgp encryption

2009-02-12 Thread marco.pallotta
Sebastien, yes it's reproducible (I tested this in two different fresh
installations) even if sometimes, the problem seems to disappear.
Anyway:

1) import a key with seahorse (the keys is put under collected keys)
2) sign the key and apply a trust level, for example, equals to full
3) try to send a new message, with evolution, to the owner of the previous key,
and select encrypt with pgp in the security menu
4) when you click send you will have the issue (obviously I expect the email
was sent as I signed the key so I have verified that the key belongs to the
recipient user)

Possible ways to bypass this is:
1) via gpg cli, set the trust level of the key to ultimately (with seahorse
you cannot as this trust level seems to be reserved automatically to own
private key); obviously this isn't right as I shouldn't have to set this level
of trust to send encrypted emails
2) checking the option Always encrypt to myself when sending encrypted
messages but also this is not right as this option is not intended to choose
if to send or not to send an email but to view pgp encrypted sent messages
stored in sent folder

[Bug 326809] Re: f-spot shows random photos at startup

2009-02-11 Thread marco.pallotta
Well:

- open f-spot (obviously I suppose that you have many photos so f-spot cannot
show them all in one page)
- select a photo (it's better that you select a photo that is not in the first
f-spot page)
- close f-spot
- re-open f-spot
- if you are lucky you will see that f-spot doesn't open the first photo page
or the last photo page in which there was the photo you previously selected,
but it places itself in one of the next photo pages
- if you aren't lucky re-try always selecting a different photo

Often it's not necessary to select any photos: if you open f-spot, don't
select anything, close it and re-open the app you will see the issue.

2009-02-10 Thread marco.pallotta
Public bug reported:

I have realized that seahorse only offers 4 options when you want to
trust a key (unknown, never, marginal, full) while gpg has 5 options (it
also have ultimately).

searhose 2.22.2 and Ubuntu Hardy x86_64.

[Bug 304539] Re: gpg key is signed (with seahorse) but evolution still shows signed messages as not not verified

2009-02-10 Thread marco.pallotta
Mackenzie, I'm not so sure that it's a seahorse issue. In fact I made some
other tests and I discovered that:
- seahorse only offers 4 options to trust a key while gpg offers 5 options (it
adds ultimately), and for this I opened a new bug #327571
- if you trust a key with the option utlimately via cli using gpg then
evolution recognize that a certain email has valid signature.

I think we have two bugs:
- one for seahorse trust levels. (and I opened it as I sayd before);
- one for either evolution or seahorse-plugins (and I think the issue I posted
is related to this) that I think should recognize a valid signature also if
we don't trust a key with the ultimately option.

I also think the importance should be raised as this is a security
issue.

[Bug 327582] [NEW] wrong number of new messages emails notified when grouped by threads

2009-02-10 Thread marco.pallotta
Public bug reported:

I read many bugs about the wrong number of emails notified by evolution but I
think this is a more specific bug.
In fact if I group by threads my emails and you suppose that I have some emails
in inbox, when I download new emails and some of them own to one of the thread
I have in inbox then evolution always notifies that I have 1 new emails in
inbox but, for example, I have three or new more emails.

Suppose that you have in inbox:
- old1
- oldl2

and you download 3 emails (new1, new2, new3) and new1 owns to thread old1 then,
in inbox, you will have:
- old1
   - new1
- old2
- new2
- new3

It seems that evolution only recognize the new1 email so just notifies
this.

Tested with evolution 2.22.3.1 and Ubuntu Hardy Heron x86_64

[Bug 327642] [NEW] No entry in Applications menu after installed luma

2009-02-10 Thread marco.pallotta
Public bug reported:

After having installed luma in Ubuntu Hardy Heron x86_64 I have noticed
that no entry is present in applications menu (I expect this entry
should be placed in the Internet submenu)

[Bug 326286] Re: automatic option doesn't exist in Evolution single file import procedure

2009-02-10 Thread marco.pallotta
In evolution:
- file
- import
- next
- import a single file
- next
- select a file name: in this window you can read that if you don't know the
file type, it's possible to select Automatic so that Evolution can try to
recognize it. As I already described, there is no automatic option. The fact
that it selects automatically the format is still obviously as after having
selected the file name Evolution automatically select a file type and you
cannot select the file type before selecting the file name. So the option
automatic is already the default so I think the phrase is misleading.

[Bug 326979] Re: PGP encrypted sent messages aren't showed decrypted in sent folder

2009-02-10 Thread marco.pallotta
Andreas, I think you are right. I tested the option Always encrypt to myself
when sending encrypted messagesand it seems that solve the issue.
At this point, as you sayd, I think Evolution has a faulty default setting as I
think a normal user expects he can read all his sent email.

2009-02-10 Thread marco.pallotta
Machenzie, I think you are right about the ultimately option, in fact my
private key is trusted automatically with this option.
About the email address, mine is present in the recipient public key as I
signed it.

[Bug 327571] Re: seahorse has only 4 levels of trust while gpg has 5 levels

2009-02-10 Thread marco.pallotta
I think the issue may be marked as invalid if it's the intended
seahorse behaviour. As Mackenzie Morgan sayd in bug #304539 seahorse
should reserve Ultimately for own key and not for other keys (even if
with gpg you can use Ultimately also for other public keys)
