[Bug 2070150] Re: Cannot move a window of a pop-up with error message

2024-06-24 Thread max chistyakov
** Description changed:

  1. Currently lsb_release -rd show me Description: Ubuntu 24.04
LTS, but it seems I don't completely update from the 23.x version

  2. apt-cache policy update-manager

  3. I upgraded the Linux from 23.x to 24.10. During the installation, a
failure happened, and was appeared a pop-up with a message "Could not install
the upgrades" . When I tried to move this pop-up apart (not to close, because
if I close the pop-up, the entire window is going to close), the "Distribution
Upgrade" entire window moved instead of the pop-up only (what I expected to
happen).
- How it looks:

P.S. For something reason, there is no mouse pointer on the video, so it's
not clear I did move the pop-up, not entire window

line, but it correct according to `case esac` syntax

[Bug 2067861] [NEW] single click header bar moves windows

2024-06-02 Thread Max Anstie
Public bug reported:

This did not happen in ubuntu 23. It is the most annoying thing and I
wish I didn't update to 24. When I click on the bar across the top where
time is displayed it un-maximises my window and shows me the orange
overlay as if I were dragging the window to snap to a portion of my
screen and I need to then drag my window to get rid of it.

[Bug 1955850] Re: /etc/X11/Xresources no longer loaded, error in patch

2024-04-24 Thread Max
The issue still remains and breaks xterm defaults on Ubuntu 22.04.

If Xresources is a folder, the upstream gdm3 Xsession script will fail
even with this change, so this bug was not introduced by them and should
not be fixed there.

2024-03-14 Thread Max Lee
verify fixed with mutter 42.9-0ubuntu7 in jammy-proposed.
SEV16_DVT1_C4 202309-32111

1. enable proposed
2. sudo apt update
3. sudo apt dist-upgrade
4. sudo reboot -i
5. sudo dpkg -l | grep mutter (make sure all mutter related were ugpraded to
42.9ubuntu7)
6. Connect external monitor to the affected system
7. Switch display modes to mirror mode
8. Observe the mirror mode can be set successfully. So the issue is resolved.

More than that, I can't give you, as I've long since uninstalled snapd,

Looks like you are using Ussuri.

In case of OVN the route is not supposed to be used:
https://docs.openstack.org/networking-
ovn/latest/contributor/design/metadata_api.html

Instead OVN does all the proxying in OVN layer (see above)

[Bug 1972075] Re: Blank screen when viewing GL-accelerated virtio screen on 22.04

2022-05-30 Thread Max Goodhart
Hi Christian and Robie, apologies for the delay. I have confirmed that
the jammy-proposed version 8.0.0-1ubuntu7.1 of libvirt packages fixes
this issue for me.

Similar to the PPA packages, I tested using the original VM with which I
ran into this bug. I confirmed that video was not working with the jammy
8.0.0-1ubuntu7 packages installed. Then I upgraded to 8.0.0-1ubuntu7.1
and re-launched the VM, and video output worked as expected. Finally, I
downgraded back to 8.0.0-1ubuntu7 and reproduced the original bug.

Pleased to report that the PPA packages (version

display works again. Thanks Christian!

feel qualified to assert that giving the VM read access to those sysfs
files is the right fix, but it did resolve the issue for me.

I noticed that GNOME-Boxes bug too while troubleshooting this. I did not
try the egl-headless suggestion at the end of the thread, but did
attempt to set the env var "MESA_LOADER_DRIVER_OVERRIDE=i965", which
still resulted in a blank display for me.

It is unclear to me whether the "qemu_spice_gl_scanout_texture: failed
to get fd for texture" message is specific to this issue, or if it would
occur in a broad class of errors where the graphics fails to initialize.

In my case, this is running on an i7-1165G7 Framework laptop with Mesa
Intel(R) Xe Graphics (TGL GT2) (0x9a49).

[Bug 1971093] Re: collectd missing in 22.04/jammy

2022-05-08 Thread Max Rower
I'm not sure, the packages from the proposed repository really do work.
Installed them in an LXC container running 22.04 on a 20.04 host. Statistics
are not stored locally, but sent to the 20.04 host, where rrdcached runs.
Currently only the uptime plugin (and exec as well for zigbee2mqtt) is active,
and it sends total garbage to the 20.04 host.
The uptime plugin running in other LXC containers using 20.04 instead of 22.04
is fine.

[Bug 1972075] [NEW] Blank screen when viewing GL-accelerated virtio screen on 22.04

2022-05-07 Thread Max Goodman
Public bug reported:

Also filed upstream:
https://gitlab.com/libvirt/libvirt/-/merge_requests/151

I recently upgraded from Ubuntu 21.10 to 22.04. I have an existing VM
with virtio video and gl-accelerated Spice display which previously
worked.

After the upgrade, virt-manager and virt-viewer display a blank screen.
In the qemu libvirt logs, I observe many repetitions of:

qemu_spice_gl_scanout_texture: failed to get fd for texture

dmesg contains these AppArmor errors:

[250001.100362] audit: type=1400 audit(1651958128.696:706): apparmor="DENIED"
operation="open" profile="libvirt-98a090a8-2fdf-463c-959b-810e5bc88b0d"

comm="qemu-system-x86" requested_mask="r" denied_mask="r" fsuid=64055 ouid=0

Modifying the AppArmor config for this VM to permit access to the
`revision` and `config` sysfs paths fixed this issue for me. The VM
display is visible and virgl is working. I was able to do so by adding
the following line:

"/sys/devices/**/{uevent,vendor,device,subsystem_vendor,subsystem_device,config,revision}"

Thank you, Olivier. I am happy to see that it works out of the box in

had custom association configured in ~/.config/mimeapps.list, I forgot
to check it earlier.

2022-04-07 Thread Max
Similar issue for me with a Jabra Evolve 75 headset. As soon as
microphone is used, e.g. for a call, the driver seems to get into a
corrupted state where sound from speakers have crackling sound as long
as microphone is active. The issue doesn't appear when starting with
kernel 5.13.0-35. Looks like there have been some changes to usb-audio
drivers with kernel version 5.13.0-37.

[Bug 1430068] Re: Unable to launch gnome-system-monitor

2022-04-05 Thread Max Mustermann
executing

> sudo echo 512 > /proc/sys/fs/inotify/max_user_instances

does not work because it won't open the file as root but as your current user.
This is because "> /proc/sys/fs/inotify/max_user_instances" is not part of what
sudo executes. The command is interpreted by your shell as follows: open the
file "/proc/sys/fs/inotify/max_user_instances
" for writing and execute the programm "sudo" with the following arguments
["echo", "512"] and replace the output(stdout) of the program with said file
for starting it. Since your shell is not running as root, it cannot open
"/proc/sys/fs/inotify/max_user_instances" for writing.

You can either get a shell running as root (with "sudo -i" for example),
or do "echo 512 | sudo tee /proc/sys/fs/inotify/max_user_instances". The
2nd way works by passing the output of echo to sudo with in turn will
pass it on to tee which then will open the file, which it can do because
sudo invoked tee as root.

[Bug 1966580] [NEW] Erroneously huge mouse pointer with snap-packaged firefox in jammy

2022-03-27 Thread Max Bowsher
Public bug reported:

I just upgraded to jammy, and the mouse cursor now becomes comically
huge whilst it's over a Firefox window.

I suspect this might be something to do with this being a HiDPI laptop.

I'm also fairly upset about the overcomplicated - and apparently broken - snaps
being enforced on me, so I've fixed this by uninstalling snapd, and obtaining
Firefox directly from Mozilla instead - which works absolutely fine.

[Bug 1861262] Re: Add message/rfc822 to thunderbird.desktop

> If I understand correctly, that's not an issue that can be fixed
> by merely updating the desktop file or packaging parameters

I have added a comment to make users (who will face a problem despite a
fix) aware of idiosyncrasy of handling command line options by
thunderbird.

I do not expect that Ubuntu team will ship additional wrapper to deal
with the issue. Those, who desperately need it working, may write a
script that creates a symlink with ".eml" suffix and a desktop file to
open "message/rfc822" files using this script.

I am afraid that security issues might happen because mozilla soft
relies too much on heuristics and does not allow to explicitly express
intention through command line options. It is even impossible to ensure
that nothing following should be considered as options, remaining
arguments are URIs or files ("--" separator for a lot of tools).

Anyway the fix is a step forward. At least files having ".eml" suffix
may be conveniently viewed.

[Bug 1861262] Re: Add message/rfc822 to thunderbird.desktop

2022-02-16 Thread Max
Thank you for updating the .desktop file.

The issue is more hairy than it seems at first glance. E.g.
https://debbugs.gnu.org/ sends "Content-disposition" header with ".mbox"
suffix when a single comment in mbox format is requested (to reply to
particular message). Thunderbird believes that a suitable action is to
compose a new message with downloaded file as an attachment.

There is no command line option to force thunderbird to open a file as
namely mail message. The position of developers is that such file must
have ".eml" extension otherwise it is not a message. See
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1755454 for details (bug
title has been changed to fix a loosely related issue).

[Bug 1960614] [NEW] Add mid: scheme handler to thunderbird.desktop

2022-02-11 Thread Max
Public bug reported:

Since thunderbird-91 version (actually even earlier, but only ESR
releases are packaged in Ubuntu) it is possible to open particular
messages from command line using Message-ID:

thunderbird mid:a...@example.com

See e.g. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/264270

However to open links from other application "mid:" scheme should be
advertised in the thunderbird.desktop file:

MimeType=x-scheme-handler/mailto;application/x-xpinstall;x-scheme-
handler/mid;

Please, adjust this field in the desktop file. To check that the change
has effect the following command may be used:

xdg-open mid:a...@example.com

Notice that it is not upstream issue. Thunderbird developers left
desktop integration up to maintainers of Linux distributions.

Long time ago it was possible to create such links to particular
messages using thunderlink extension but migration from XUL to
WebExtension add-ons broke it. Support of mid: scheme restores linking
of mail messages from other applications.

There is a related issue: request to add message/rfc822 MIME type in

[Bug 1959970] Re: Microphone-mute LED regression with 5.13.0-28 kernel update

2022-02-06 Thread Max Bowsher
No, the mic-mute keyboard key does not work - neither with the old (-27)
or new (-28) kernel.

My mention of bug 1955691 is based upon having tested by rolling back to
the -27 kernel and seeing the mic-mute LED stay off, rolling forward to
the -28 kernel and seeing it illuminate at boot again, then looking in
the changelog and seeing an entry mentioning both "HP" and "mic-mute".
It is possible this is a hasty assumption, but it seems awfully strong
co-incidence.

[Bug 1959970] [NEW] Microphone-mute LED regression with 5.13.0-28 kernel update

2022-02-03 Thread Max Bowsher
Public bug reported:

The bug 1955691 kernel update introduces undesirable behaviour on the HP
Spectre x360 - the mic-mute LED is now lit at system startup, even
though the microphone is NOT MUTED.

This is undesirable because it is giving the user incorrect information;
and also because the LED is a rather attention-grabbing vivid orange,
which is distracting to have lit.

After logging in to GNOME, opening the Sound settings and toggling the
microphone mute state does cause the LED to follow future changes.

[Bug 1958261] [NEW] "qemu -display spice-app" fails due to missed spice+unix schema in remote-viewer.desktop

2022-01-18 Thread Max
Public bug reported:

Try the following command (optionally add -cdrom ubuntu.iso):
qemu-system-x86_64 -display spice-app
Actual result:
qemu-system-x86_64: info: Launching display with URI:
spice+unix:///tmp/.XXGMF1/spice.sock
qemu-system-x86_64: Failed to launch spice+unix:///tmp/.XXGMF1/spice.sock
URI: The specified location is not supported
qemu-system-x86_64: You need a capable Spice client, such as virt-viewer 8.0
Expected result:
no such error, with additional arguments VM is started.

Actually virt-viewer-7.0 (20.04 focal - 21.10 impish) supports spice+unix scheme
but it is not specified in remote-viewer.desktop.

Upstream commit fixing this issue is included since v8.0 tag:

https://gitlab.com/virt-viewer/virt-viewer/-/commit/c4f6142f15c4e51cbf427f5f1bf1fc6ac0e10d88
remote-viewer: add handling of spice+unix and spice+tls schemes
2018-07-27T15:12:00Z

Accordingly to https://virt-manager.org/download/
virt-viewer 11.0 is available since Friday November 18th, 2021

I hope, the best way to fix the issue is to package new version,
however I have not tried to build it, so some complications may exist.

Workaround:
Add to ~/.config/mimeapps.list

[Bug 1956865] [NEW] [snap] firefox webauthn not working with tomu u2f

2022-01-09 Thread Max
Public bug reported:

Similar to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/1947746/ using
webauthn with my tomu device did not work out of the box.

The device id does not seem to be registered. Adding
/etc/udev/rules.d/10-tomu.rules with
```
ACTION=="add|change", KERNEL=="hidraw*", SUBSYSTEM=="hidraw",
ATTRS{idVendor}=="16d0", ATTRS{idProduct}=="0e90", TAG+="uaccess"
TAG+="snap_firefox_firefox"
ACTION=="add|change", SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="16d0",
ATTRS{idProduct}=="0e90", TAG+="uaccess"
```
fixed this.

It used to work fine following the instructions from
https://github.com/gl-sergei/u2f-token with the .deb package.

[Bug 1741074] Re: [snap] chrome-gnome-shell extension fails to detect native host connector

2021-10-23 Thread Max
It seems, Belgium eID (Comment #36) uses PKCS#11, not native messaging:
https://github.com/Fedict/eid-mw/blob/master/plugins_tools/xpi/new-src/manifest.json
However the problem is essentially the same: native manifest.
Olivier filed a bug in Firefox bugzilla:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/1734371
"Firefox snap can't load PKCS#11 modules on the host system"

I suppose, the title of this bug does not reflect scale of the problem.
All browser add-ons that relies on native manifests are affected
in Chromium and Firefox.

I came across this issue testing an extension in Firefox using Ubuntu-21.10
live image. I am considering whether it is feasible to run a kind of thin
proxy server on host that creates a socket inside a directory mounted to snap
and runs a binary in response to connection (something like inetd).
It requires a stub for native messaging app that connects to the server
and pass through requests and responses. Generally it does not differ
too much from D-Bus and ideally requires support from Firefox for robust
checks if particular add-on is allowed to run a specific app.

[Bug 1945794] Re: ttf-mscorefonts-installer should not depend on ubuntu-advantage-tools

I added ubuntu-advantage-tools package to this bug expecting pressure
from that side to issue an urgent update of update-manager-core to LTS.
It is sour that dependency added in *LTS update* can not be corrected to
a more flexible value in a following update.

I am going to try whether installing a package from Debian may be a workaround.
Anyway updates of mscorefonts are unlikely.

[Bug 1945794] [NEW] ttf-mscorefonts-installer should not depend on ubuntu-advantage-tools

2021-10-01 Thread Max
Public bug reported:

During latest update of Ubuntu-20.04 focal the following conflict
appeared: either ubuntu-advantage-tools must be installed or ttf-
mscorefonts-installer must be removed. Such dependence should not be
hard, I do not mind (indirect) "recommends" relation.

Since I have no intention to subscribe to ESM or to kernel live patch
(sorry, I am not a source of profit for Canonical, at least direct one),
I removed ubuntu-advantage-tools and it was working smoothly till the
last update.

apt upgrade

attempted to install new package ubuntu-advantage-tools. I tried to set
`Pin-Priority: -1` to this package (I do not recommend such recipe, so
no config snippet here). The result is:

The following packages have been kept back:
  python3-update-manager

I do not expect upgrade till next year, so I tried to remove packages
necessary for dist-upgrade

apt purge update-manager-core
The following packages will be REMOVED:
  ttf-mscorefonts-installer* update-manager-core* update-notifier-common*

Removing of ttf-mscorefonts-installer is against my goal. I would prefer
to keep the fonts.

1. ttf-mscorefonts-installer should not depend on update-notifier-
common. I noticed /var/lib/update-notifier/package-data-downloads/
directory in /var/lib/dpkg/info/ttf-mscorefonts-installer.postinst If it
is the only reason of dependency, the package may create the directory
itself.

2. I hope, there is a way to avoid stale ubutu-advantage-tools without
hard dependency in update-manager-core (e.g. "recommends" and some
conflicts to earlier versions).

I do not know the full story, I found lp:1926361, but fixes released
several months ago. I have no idea why the problem appeared on my
machine this week.

It seems, there 2 independent issues that are quite harmless while
isolated but their combination causes a problem. Please, disentangle
ttf-mscorefonts-installer and ubuntu-advantage-tools.

[Bug 1910944] Re: glances crashes; fixed upstream; please update package

2021-09-30 Thread Max Waterman
Still no update. Is it difficult to update a package? If there are
instructions, I'm happy to give it a try...crazy for it to take so long,
imo.

The prompt is replaced with the expression. Upon hitting Enter, first
the expression itself gets printed, then the value.

Notice how the prompt is missing after all REPL evaluations, except the

[Bug 1930277] [NEW] On 21.04, the REPL prints all values twice.

2021-05-31 Thread Max Sokolovsky
Public bug reported:

This is found under 21.04, even in a Docker container built from a 21.04 image.
No such issues under 20.04.
The REPL (started with the `clojure` command) just echoes the result of an
expression before printing it, so it prints it twice.

[Bug 1926305] Re: 20.04 Online Accounts - Google Shared Drives

2021-04-30 Thread max
Thank you for looking into it.

I appreciate it may not be an easy process. However corporate
environments will not be upgraded until the next LTS. This is quite an
important feature for end users and administrators alike. As a
workaround we use rclone, but to have it all ready to go in the Desktop
environment would really make a big difference.

Just a thought for Canonical to consider.

But thanks again for your help.

[Bug 1926305] [NEW] 20.04 Online Accounts - Google Shared Drives

2021-04-27 Thread max
Public bug reported:

Just tested out 21.04 and Google Shared Drives works just fine.

Any chance the 20.04 LTS gnome-online-accounts could be updated to
support it?

If that is not possible, any way to build the package from source?

Patch available here:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gvfs/-/commit/5fa777ddc6dafc71e72f499fd699f508a711924c#11a2f3edde24e314d0420b86f0caf06e5de195a1

Problem is that building requires dependencies newer than package. Tried
this with 3-36 as gnome on 20.04 is 3.36
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gvfs/-/tree/gnome-3-36

Example error:
meson.build:305:2: ERROR: Invalid version of dependency, need
'polkit-gobject-1' ['>= 0.114'] found '0.105'

[Bug 1804333] Re: Cheese detects only low-res YUYV stream from camera

2021-04-14 Thread Max
I think https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/cheese/-/issues/28 "Cheese only
uses video/x-raw formats, and not image/jpeg" better matches the heading
of this issue, so I have added it as a tracked bug.

It is fixed, but Ubuntu-20.04 is still affected. Live image with 21.04
fails to boot on the affected laptop (AMD Ryzen), so unsure concerning
bug status in the latest distro.

[Bug 1914878] Re: At boot on Pi4 with 20.04.02 i get: Failed to load '//uboot/ubuntu/boot.sel'

2021-03-22 Thread Max R.
I am also experiencing this error on a Raspberry Pi 4B 4Gb RAM and
Ubuntu Server 20.04.02

I experienced it both with writing the image from Raspberry Pi Imager as
well as writing the image in the same way as Robert did.

When booting I see the same "Failed to load '//uboot/ubuntu/boot.sel'"
after seeing "Found U-Boot script /boot.scr".

Additionally while the Pi attempts to boot I see the following:
[FAILED] Failed to start Command from Kernel Command Line.
See 'systemctl status kernel-command-line.service' for details
[DEPEND] Dependency failed for Command from Kernel Command Line.

[Bug 1916541] Re: smtp "fatal: unknown service: smtp/tcp", probably after libc upgrade

2021-03-10 Thread Max Bowsher
I've just been bitten by this.

It seems this was broken by
https://sourceware.org/git/?p=glibc.git;a=commit;h=429029a73ec2dba7f808f69ec8b9e3d84e13e804

and it has recently been realised that was a bad idea:
https://sourceware.org/git/?p=glibc.git;a=commit;h=58673149f37389495c098421085ffdb468b3f7ad

https://sourceware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=27389

It looks like hirsute is going to need a backport of this

2021-02-27 Thread Max Bowsher
In the apport-collected CurrentDmesg.txt, the keyboard is detected at:

[ 11.664651] input: AT Translated Set 2 keyboard as
/devices/platform/i8042/serio0/input/input44

That's sooner than it usually takes!

apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected groovy

** Description changed:

On the HP Spectre x360 14-ea0xxx (Tiger Lake), the keyboard is
inoperable for ~30-60 seconds after system boot.

Kernel logging reveals that it did not detect the keyboard during this
  time.

An analysis of this and a patch can be found at:

  https://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-input/msg71677.html

A workaround is to add i8042.nopnp to the kernel command line

No, I haven't. The workaround of setting i8042.nopnp is satisfactory for
me, and the patch creator has done a thorough write up of the problem.

My objective in filing this bug is to raise awareness that the current
version of Ubuntu has this problem - on fairly major hardware from a
mainstream vendor - so that other people searching the bug tracker for
it can more easily find out.

Or, that it might draw the attention of Ubuntu kernel maintainers for
possible inclusion as a SAUCE patch whilst waiting for upstream
inclusion.

Or, getting a bit hopeful here, that someone at Canonical could get
someone at HP to fix their "quirky" i8042 emulation.

[Bug 1912772] Re: Panic on sysfs read

2021-02-25 Thread Max
Ah, that's a shame... Thank you for your efforts, though. I'm unsure
whether this can be exploited, but in the end, you have to be root to
trigger it, right? And the Raspberry Pi's Watchdog can help you get out
of this situation.

Unfortunately, you can trigger it by accident when grepping through the
whole file system.

[Bug 1916469] Re: Apps don't use Wayland by default

2021-02-24 Thread Max Vincent Goldgamer
** Description changed:

The Ubuntu universe has a big Wayland problem!

  What does that mean?

So a lot of packages in the Universe repository are not compiled with
Wayland support which is really bad and would lead to bad performance
  after 21.04 comes out.

Here are the following packages that I detected with wrong compilation:

telegram-desktop (Wayland support work with snap version)
- qdirstat
- vlc
  kiwix
firefox (everything works fine with this env variable
set:"MOZ_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1")
