[Bug 650526] Re: [arrandale] GPU lockup 488c32be

2010-09-29 Thread michael o'sullivan
I've found adding a line to xorg.conf to set a virtual desktop space to
encompass a 1024x768 and 1440x900 monitor in an effort to cope with bug
#635827 prevents the xserver from starting. If you comment out lines
beginning with Virtual in the Display subsections, will X start for
you? (though this will not give you continuous dual monitors)

[Bug 635827] [NEW] gnome-display-properties dual monitor setup resolution incorrect-not full screen

2010-09-11 Thread michael o'sullivan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

Description:Ubuntu maverick (development branch)
Release:10.10

gnome-control-center:
  Installed: 1:2.31.91-0ubuntu2
  Candidate: 1:2.31.91-0ubuntu2
  Version table:
 *** 1:2.31.91-0ubuntu2 0
500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ maverick/main i386 Packages

Using a Lenovo 3000 C100 laptop
VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 915GM/GMS/910GML Express
Graphics Controller (rev 04)
Connected to an HP w19ev 19 Monitor

While setting up dual monitor output, setting both screens to same image
works with full screen 1024x768 in both screens, but I can't set an
independent 1440x900 in the HP monitor at the same time as having
1024x768 in the laptop monitor (i.e. when same image in all monitors box
is unchecked). Instead of displaying a full screen at 1440x900, the 19
monitor displays a 1024x768 area, with surrounding black space.

Output from xrandr when this is attempted:
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 2048 x 768, maximum 4096 x 4096
