Public bug reported: $ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS Release:12.04 When I boot up my system, I don't get a login screen, just the boot log scrolling by, repeating after a while lines like this: * Starting anac(h)ronistic cron [ OK ] * Stopping anac(h)ronistic cron [ OK ] I can change to another virtual terminal, and start lightdm from there with sudo lightdm restart. Other people with similar problems had just lightdm in their /etc/x11 /default-display-manager. I've checked mine and it has /usr/sbin/lightdm in there, so that's not the problem. On the gui in the top-right corner it has 'File sync starting...', but it doesn't progress. Till, unfortunately I can't attach the file as it's a student's paper. Originally I tried printing through evince, which caused the problem. I have just tried lpr, and the documents print normally. I downloaded and installed Adobe Reader 9.3.2, and the documents print normally. (Thanks! Any known workarounds for this? I have a series of student papers with many embedded images that simply won't be processed by pdftops. Well, I've waited an hour for a 3MB PDF to be processed, and my CPU is still near 100%.
