2009-10-12 Thread ptaylor

Hi Simon

I think i have most things covered, maybe just some final preperation, any
ideas.?

I have some cd's planned, and the globe room booked if we need it, but
otherwise i think we will be ok,
Do you personally have any ideas yourself that i may have missed Simon, i
mostly want to keep it social but have the provision to have something
people can take with them. Material in Hand, :)

[ubuntu-uk] Banbury Karmic Release Party

2009-10-10 Thread ptaylor
Hi All

Ok final call.
Please route and copy this to people you think maybe
interested and point them at the wiki page.

I need a rough idea, of who is going to come to the banbury karmic release
party.
something of an idea would be great,
please.

Also ideas on what i will need for release party, i have basic ubuntu
leaflets planned and cd's for people to take with them, otherwise just
very social,

Any ideas beyond that.

I would appreciate some filling in of detail gaps, like, attendence
numbers, please.

Thanks

[ubuntu-uk] flash still doesnt work, when try to play flash stuff inside FF2 and FF3

2008-09-27 Thread ptaylor

Hi

i have tried this inside FF2 and FF3, with the latest flash from the
repos, and x86 8.04.1

i am trying to play scifi.dragonfly.com/renegade/stogamst448

when i clicked to play it, ff2 and ff3 died, so i decided to start them
from cli, and got illegal instruction as the error on the cli.

this confuses me,

any ideas why this wont work.

Hi Philip, my ff3 hasn't crashed, but i can't seem to connect to the
content. it just hangs at Selecting optimal video for your
connection... but nothing else happens. have you tried other flash
sites? perhaps one of the toons on www.weebls-stuff.com

[ubuntu-uk] flash still crashes ff2 and ff3

2008-09-26 Thread ptaylor

Hi

i was on my desktop trying to play scifi.dragnfly.com/renegade/stogamst448

and it crashes ff2 and ff3,

so i ran both from the command line, and all it outputs when it trying to
play the video, which i suspect, is flash is illegal instruction

it is x86 8.04.1 with the latest flash from the repos.

 SNIP
 Hi Philip,

Any reason you want a byte-by-byte backup, isn't backing up the
 filesystem enough?

In my opinion using an incremental filesystem backup tool such as
rsnapshot (console based), or sbackup (GUI) leaves greater flexibility.

However, if you really want a byte level backup, _I_ would use a livecd
(as i would prefer not to have the filesystem mounted) and 'dd' and
 something like:

 $ sudo umount /dev/sda1 # check it's unmounted

$ sudo dd if=/dev/sda1 | ssh [EMAIL PROTECTED] cat ~/sda1.img # copy it
over ssh to your other PC (as i expect you don't have enough RAM to store the
 whole partition :)

 HTH

 Kind Regards,
 Dave Walker

Be sure to enable anything to do with bluez. Plus now the gnome
bluetooth manager is plugged into gio/gvfs which I don't think is
 on in
Xubuntu. Try enabling Kbluetooth instead it will pull in the libs
 that
it need where as the gnome version might not.

 Hi

I made the suggestion at the meeting, that i would offer
to host a release party. Now for starters i need to know
if theres anough interest or not,
I live in banbury, thats north oxfordshire.and i would
 host it here.

i was thinking about the 26th(saturday), if there is a
better day, please suggest it, and i will see what i can do,

Hope to have a good response,

 Philip (aka brobostigon)

 Philip,

Sorry but I do not live anywhere near you, (Actually I
have no idea where Banbury is, but it's not local to me or
I would :) Is it the place from the rhyme, cocked horse
and all?) Do you have local LUGs you could spread the
word to? lug.org.uk has a list. Hope you sort somethikng out.

[ubuntu-uk] realplayer for powerpc problems (revised and expanded)

2007-12-09 Thread ptaylor
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi

i followed the instructions in the powerpc faq on how to install
realplayer, it installed with no problems. i firstly tried an mp3 and it
played with no problems, i then tried a bbc stream, and it crshed
realplayer. so i read the powerpc faq again and gave no further
asistence, so i also read help.ubuntu.com, still with no help, so i went
to the forums an searched, most were problems for x86-64 not powerpc,
but the closest was very close to my problem, but nothing specfic to
powerpc, the closest recoomended deleting swfformat.so and swfrender.so
from realplayers plugins folder, i did so and it didnt help, i also
searched in google with no help, so the last thing i can think of it to
ask here.??

if anyone can help to get something so simple working, i would be
greatly appreciated.
