I didn't follow the discussion this flyer, so I might have overlooked something. Instead of the text "Ubuntu is simpel in gebruik, net zoals Microsoft Windows en Apple OS X", I would prefer: "Ubuntu is een gebruiksvriendelijk alternatief voor Microsoft Windows en Mac OS X." Apple OS X feels strange (read unprofessional) to me. A quick check on google: - 60.800.000 results for "mac os x" - 766.000 results for "apple os x" Stani PS. Goede poster! Zelf zou ik de verhoudingen van het Windows scherm en ubuntu scherm omwisselen. Ook een meer sexy screenshot van Ubuntu met compiz effecten (bv expose wall) ipv het inlogscherm in combinatie met een wallpaper dat het ubuntu logo draagt. I've uploaded them all to Google Video, but their service seems under huge workload, so after a day the movies are still not published. In the end I chose also to upload them to blip.tv as they are the only site with good support of ogg. They were published there within an hour, so I will upload some more videos there this week. Dit is een dubbele post van: http://forum.ubuntu-nl.org/message/261354#p261354 Na wat getreuzel, heb ik nu toch uitgezocht wat de handigste manier is om de filmpjes van de release party in Herk de Stad online te krijgen. Ik heb eerst met een paar fragmentjes van een minuut getest en dat was geen probleem. Of het met de echte filmpjes, lukt kan ik nu nog niet zeggen, maar laten we hopen van wel. Ook ander goed nieuws: mede dankzij Profox lijkt het geluid goed opgenomen, als de spreker tenminste door de micro spreekt. (Ik moest wel met batterij filmen, dus er kan bij een lange lezing wel een stuk(je) afgevallen zijn.) Kan je niet wachten om de filmpjes te zien?! Hmmm ... heb wat geduld want dit gaat een tijd duren. Dit zijn de stappen, ik neem als voorbeeld een lezing van 30 min (de meeste zijn langer) om je een beetje een idee te geven: 1) filmpjes inladen (dit duurt even lang als wat er gefilmd is, 30 min, deze bestanden zijn niet afspeelbaar) 2) filmpjes comprimeren (duurt 2x-4x zolang, dus 1-2uur) 3) filmpjes uploaden (duurt voor een half uur film zeker 5 uur bij een zeer snelle connectie, anders nog veel meer) Ik heb alle videosites vergeleken. Youtube valt af omdat ze nu een harde limiet van 10 minuten hanteren, ook al ben je 'director'. Van alle andere sites lijkt google video het beste. 1 en 2 wil ik zelf doen, maar 3 valt een beetje buiten mijn mogelijkheden. Ik deel mjin internetverbinding met andere mensen dus kan het niet maken om asociaal het volledige uploadkanaal op te eisen met het risico de limieten te overschrijden. Er zijn hier vast wel mensen die een snelle internetverbinding hebben (zakelijk of prive). Dus bij deze een oproep voor iemand die het uploaden van de filmpjes op zich wilt nemen. Let op het gaat om 2gb/uur en in totaal heb ik wel een paar uur film. Voor het uploaden heeft Google een gebruiksvriendelijk java programma ontwikkeld wat gemakkelijk te installeren is. Ik heb dit getest dus daar moet je geen moeilijkheden verwachten. Of een andere mogelijkheid is om ze als download op de ubuntu-nl site aan te bieden (dus zonder flash speler). Het voordeel van een flash player is wel dat ook (potentiele) ubuntu gebruikers ze gemakkelijker zien. Wie o wie? Zodat ook de thuisblijvers (incl. Nederlanders) ervan kunnen genieten? English - that way everyone can translate the package to their favourite

Packages should definitely be in English.
It is good before developing your application to study gettext so your
application can easily be translated. Without giving too much details,
the process is not that difficult. Every string which should be
translated, should be surrounded by the _() function, for example
_('translate me'). Afterwards I advise you to use a program such as
poedit (sudo apt-get install poedit), which will extract all strings
automatically for translation and allow you to translate your program in
any language you want. The exact details are dependent of your
programming language and out of scope for this mailing list. Probably
you better.

If you want your program to be packaged there, file a "needs-packaging"
bug against ubuntu on launchpad.

member after some hard training, which packages all not officially
supported packages. MOTU's are friendly people and you can ask for help
in #ubuntu-motu on IRC with Pidgin. There was just an Ubuntu Developers
Week of which the logs will be very useful to you:

The best approach is to package your programs for Debian and afterwards
they can get easily synced for Ubuntu.
