[Bug 406515] Re: [Karmic Lucid Beta 1] Brightness fn keys lost functionality (Lenovo laptops)

2010-04-21 Thread tomek.bury
HP Pavilion dv2500 shows the same issue. The acpi=off brings FN+F7/F8
back to life but at the cost of WiFi. I can be a hint but it's not good
enough even as a workaround, as far as I'm concerned.

[Bug 264943] Re: gvfsd-smb crashed with SIGSEGV in strlen()

2009-01-24 Thread tomek.bury
Hi all,

It works!

I've just disabled Thierry's ppa and installed samba related packages
from intrepid proposed repository - it's all yummy. I can read and write
to NAS drive.

Could anyone else check the intrepid-proposed version of samba?

Thanks,
Tomek

[Bug 275998] Re: internal mic capture very low volume when routed through pulseaudio

2009-01-05 Thread tomek.bury
Perhaps the alsa (non-pulse) Digital slider controls analogue
sensitivity (pre-amp)? Marcus' hack adds software amplification - post-
amp at the very end of chain. Basically it's multiplying the samples
(both captured sound and whatever noises/distortions) by some factor.
The later the amplification is done the more distortions add up to the
sound and amplifier boosts all of them equally.

The ideal solution would be to restore the original control, still
Marcus' slider is way better than bare pulse. I'd keep his solution as a
good workaround and keep the bug open until a proper solution is in
place.

Cheers,
Tomek

2009-01-02 Thread tomek.bury
Hello Marcus,

Your solution worked for me - both M1330 and M1530 started record loud
and clear.

I guess step 3) was an important one because I've tried it previously
after your earlier post (steps 1, 2 and 2b) on M1330 and it didn't work
than.

Thanks!

[Bug 275998] Re: internal mic capture very low volume when routed through pulseaudio

2008-12-28 Thread tomek.bury
Hello,

It doesn't work for me I'm affraid. I've got Dell XPS M1330.

lspci reports:

00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio
Controller (rev 02)
Subsystem: Dell Device 0209
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 21
Memory at febfc000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16K]
Capabilities: access denied
Kernel driver in use: HDA Intel
Kernel modules: snd-hda-intel

$ arecord -l
 List of CAPTURE Hardware Devices
card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: STAC92xx Analog [STAC92xx Analog]
  Subdevices: 3/3
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
  Subdevice #1: subdevice #1
  Subdevice #2: subdevice #2

The /etc/asound.conf didn't work at all. I had to rename it to
~/.asoundrc to make the new control to appear. But it has no influence
on mic sensitivity at all. I've tried hw:0,0 0,1 0,2 and 1,0 (restaring
alsa after each change) - none of them worked. In fact none of the
recording sliders have any influence on the recording volume.

I'll try to get rid of all audio packages but the standard ones and I'll
try again.

Cheers,
Tomek

[Bug 264943] Re: gvfsd-smb crashed with SIGSEGV in strlen()

2008-12-15 Thread tomek.bury
I'm trying to get some informations from my landrive tech support. I've
provided them with the technical data they have requested (model HD9-U2LA based
on RDC R2882-G chip if anyone's interested) and waiting for a response.

As for the new samba packages:
1. reading seems to work fine now - I can access all files, nothing seem to be
missing, nothing crashes
2. writing is not all right yet, put doesn't work, it creates an empty file:

First create test file:

$ echo 123 test test.txt
$ ls -l test.txt
-rw-r--r-- 1 tomek tomek 9 2008-12-16 00:14 test.txt

We've got 9 bytes, let's send it to NAS:

$ smbclient //nas/public/
Enter tomek's password:
Domain=[ȇ] OS=[] Server=[]
smb: \ put test.txt
Error writing file: ERRHRD - 39
putting file test.txt as \test.txt Receiving SMB: Server stopped responding
Call returned zero bytes (EOF) closing remote file \test.txt
smb: \ quit

Didn't quite work. Now delete the local copy:

$ rm test.txt
$ ls -l test.txt
ls: cannot access test.txt: No such file or directory

And get it from NAS:

$ smbclient //nas/public/
Enter tomek's password:
Domain=[ȇ] OS=[] Server=[]
smb: \ get test.txt
getting file \test.txt of size 0 as test.txt (0.0 kb/s) (average 0.0 kb/s)
smb: \ quit

Check the result - the file was created but it's empty:

$ ls -l test.txt
-rw-r--r-- 1 tomek tomek  0 2008-12-16 00:16 test.txt

But I'm not sure which way to merge them. Bug 284572 has most of the

[Bug 264943] Re: gvfsd-smb crashed with SIGSEGV in strlen()

2008-12-03 Thread tomek.bury
Well, this bug causes crash in libsmbclient accessed through nautilus
while bug 284572 does the same through smbclient. The smbclient gives
some extra hints: weird domain/os/server - probably some parsing error,
info level 1 is, I guess, type of package received from landrive:

$ smbclient //nas/PUBLIC -N
Domain=[ȇ] OS=[] Server=[??]
smb: \ ls
cli_list_new: Error: unable to parse name from info level 1
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

For some more examples see:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/284572/comments/5
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/284572/comments/7

Perhaps NAS drive tells fibs (package with wrong info level, ommisions,
aditions, mistakes?

LAN drive models reported so far include Iomega Home Network Harddrive:
http://www.iomega-europe.com/section?SID=86c57e53b9aa65a3d50a6a69f6727dd:4745secid=76622
 and LanDrive: http://www.usbex.com/landrive/

I've made a simple patch that stops libsmblient from crashing (and nothing more
than that):
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/284572/comments/11

The patch revealed another problem - lots of the files became invisible
when I'm trying to access them via samba, but I still can access them
when I plug the drive directly in using USB cable.

[Bug 275998] Re: audio recording very silent

2008-11-24 Thread tomek.bury
Hi all,

I can confirm the bug on Dell XPS M1330 and 1530.

The workaround that works for me is to remove pulseaudio from the
system.

I've noticed that after removing puldeaudio alsamixer shows additional
track Digital with settings ranging from -30dB to +30dB. Perhaps
puldeaudio sets the Digital to 0dB, thus removing mic boost and
causing the problem?

Cheers,
Tomek

[Bug 155157] no video overlay on external monitor

2007-10-20 Thread tomek.bury
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

I could watch video on laptop's panel and on external monitor connected
to laptop's VGA output in fiesty. After upgrading to gutsy the video
overlay stopped working on the external monitor (internal panel shows
video, external shows only the key colour). Downgrading xserver-xorg-
video-ati to fiesty version fixes problem.

My HW: Dell Latitude C660 laptop with 32 HDTV connected to the VGA
output.

lspci | grep VGA:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility M7 LW
[Radeon Mobility 7500]

xorg.conf comes from distro, I haven't modify it. If you need any
further info, please let me know.
