Re: [Bug 1029149] Re: gparted automatically starts scanning all devices slowly and never completing the task
Melchiaros, I used a USB stick created using the Startup disk creator with the FAT32 single partition with 1gb persistence ext2. When I look at the USB stick using gparted it shows only one partition. I am not certain that this bug matches the bug you referred to 121943 since there was no external HD just usb flash drive live medium. The bugs do seem similar with cpu 100% even after gparted is closed. I did get ubuntu updates on the usb persistence which seemed to clear up the gparted not functioning properly. I hope this helps and is not too late. warren On Fri, Jul 27, 2012 at 12:19 PM, melchiaros melchia...@aol.com wrote: The report I mention is: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gparted/+bug/121943 ** Changed in: gparted (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1029149 Title: gparted automatically starts scanning all devices slowly and never completing the task Status in “gparted” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: 1) Ubuntu 12.10 Alpha3 i386 (Live USB stick) 2) gparted 0.12.1-1 3) I expected to open gparted completing the system scan in a matter of seconds. 4) When opened gparted the scanning all devices is never completed. [Bug 927515] Re: thunderbird uses excessive cpu power
Some further info: My syslog was geting spammed with eCryptfs messages as per https://bugs.launchpad.net/ecryptfs/+bug/911507, but only when Thunderbird was in online mode. The culprit was a zero length global-messages-db.sqlite-journal file under .thunderbird. I'd copied my .thunderbird directory from my old laptop (that wasn't using encrypted homedir) to the new laptop (which is using encrypted homedir). Moving the file out of the way stopped the eCryptfs spam, and dropped CPU usage from about 70%+ to about 54%, which isn't melting the laptop. Thunderbird has recreated the global-messages-db.sqlite-journal file, and it now has non-zero length. I guess what it's doing now is more normal. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/927515 Title: thunderbird uses excessive cpu power To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/thunderbird/+bug/927515/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 657270] Re: Netstat not displaying all listening ports when using IPv4 and IPv6
After doing more research, I believe this is because Apache is not using the IPV6_V6ONLY flag when it binds to port 80. This allows the IPv6 socket to serve both IPv4 and IPv6 traffic. Since there is technically only one listening socket, this is why netstat only shows the IPv6 socket. Historically we could use netstat to see exactly what is listening, but in the case of IPV6_V6ONLY, it's entirely possible that an IPv6 socket could handle IPv4 traffic and netstat would never show it. Here is the README from the netbase package: # When disabled, IPv6 sockets will also be able to send and receive IPv4 # traffic with addresses in the form :::192.0.2.1 and daemons listening # on IPv6 sockets will also accept IPv4 connections. # # When IPV6_V6ONLY is enabled, daemons interested in both IPv4 and IPv6 # connections must open two listening sockets. # This is the default behaviour of almost all modern operating systems. IPV6_V6ONLY is controlled by the sysctl net.ipv6.bindv6only. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/657270 Title: Netstat not displaying all listening ports when using IPv4 and IPv6 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/net-tools/+bug/657270/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 988202] Re: Ubuntu cannot automatically change brightness of screen and keyboard backlight in Macbook Air 4, 2
I have the problem that when I change the screen brightness via the fn keys or the system configuration panel, I get an increase in brightness for maybe half a second and then it goes back to some default. Same for key backlighting My /sys/class/backlight folder has two dirs: acpi_video0 and intel_backlight when I run echo 4880 | sudo tee /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness the screen actually gets brighter for more than half a second, but it dims down again after about 3 seconds. The degree of dimness seems to fluctuate with ambient light. [Bug 967091] Re: Wrong tint with Nvidia after upgrading to 11.2
The whole point of the libvdpau patch is that it is easily reversible, and integrates trivially with the Ubuntu packaging process. To reverse it, just change the configuration file. To integrate with the packaging process, put the config file in the Flash package. That way, if a new Flash version is released that fixes the problem, the config file can be atomically edited to disable the workaround in libvdpau, and everything will just continue to work without users noticing. All the other workarounds have various disadvantages: a) Some/all simply disable VDPAU usage at all, which results in increased CPU usage, and in some cases disable VDPAU usage in all applications, not just Flash. b) They edit files that are owned by packages other than Flash, and so it's impossible to actually package the fixes and atomically remove those fixes at the same time as a Flash update. c) They probably aren't going to be packaged at all, thus requiring users to take complex steps to solve the problem, instead of Ubuntu performing trivial packaging steps to solve it for everyone without side-effects. Note that Adobe has known about this bug for a long time. If they haven't fixed it yet, I seriously doubt they ever will. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/967091 Title: Wrong tint with Nvidia after upgrading to 11.2 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/libvdpau/+bug/967091/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 812394] Re: Disable hibernate option by default
If hibernate must be disabled by default (which IMHO is a silly idea, since it makes the whole fact that hibernate even exists completely undiscoverable), then rather than directing users to create a file in /etc (hardly something that the average end-user is going to know how to do), why not create a package that can be installed that enables the option. This would show up in whatever GUI package management tool users get to use these days, with a description like install this to enable hibernate on your system. [Bug 430411] Re: socket file location doesn't support chroot'd postfix smtpd, which is default
It doesn't just work. Just work means it works without having to change anything to make it work. The reason I filed this bug is not because it can't be made to work, but that the default configuration of the two packages (postfix, spamass- milter IIRC) when simply apt-get install'd is such that they will not work together without fixing this issue. It seems like the default setup of these two packages should be such that they work together correctly. Now, if I was doing something non-standard, I'd be fine with having to read the documentation to make it work. However, that's not the case here. So, in my opinion, this bug should be re-opened (unless the bug has been fixed already in a more recent release than I reported it against, but there's no evidence of that here). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/430411 Title: socket file location doesn't support chroot'd postfix smtpd, which is default To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/spamass-milter/+bug/430411/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 801356] Re: Lines appear at the top of the desktop, and at the bottom of some windows
Hi Bryce, thanks for your comments. I have upgraded and am using Oneiric now. The issues with the unity overlay's transparency have been resolved, however there are still lines at the top of the screen when the desktop is focused. When an app is running full screen, there are no issues. I'm not sure how to proceed with this. Should I file a new bug under Oneiric or just change this one? Just as an FYI, I recently tested out GNOME3 on the same hardware and that looks great, except all the UI fonts are scrambled. [Bug 803127] Re: w3c-markup-validator depends on w3c-sgml-lib (nonexistent in Natty)
I can confirm that with this workaround: Installing w3c-sgml-lib from Oneiric before installing w3c-markup- validator. I believe the syntax in the /etc/sudoers file is #includedir /etc/sudoers.d not includedir /etc/sudoers.d, i.e. you do need the leading # character; the visudo syntax error message when you omit it is correct. [Bug 771905] Re: No logo at boot on nvidia card
Hmm. I partially take that back. The actual content of the kernel command-line isn't important. What is important is editing in grub (i.e. at the grub menu, press e to edit, don't make any changes, then press ctrl-x to boot). That works most of the time, but just occasionally doesn't. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/771905 Title: No logo at boot on nvidia card -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 771905] Re: No logo at boot on nvidia card
If you edit /boot/grub.cfg and override the timeout lines to be timeout=0, grub never displays a boot menu, but instead jumps straight to booting the default option. In this case, the password prompt is visible for me. IIRC, by default, Ubuntu configures grub to *not* display the menu (hence this works for everyone) *unless* you have another OS installed (e.g. Windows), in which case, grub is configured to display the menu so you can choose (and displaying the menu, without displaying the editing screen seems to be the related to this problem) Does everyone affected see the grub menu during boot, but others (who unfortunately probably won't be reading this bug...) not? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/771905 Title: No logo at boot on nvidia card -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 777302] Re: No password prompt on boot for crypted root disk
Me too. Is this related to using a video/X driver that doesn't support KMS? I notice that Jerico's lspci.txt in comment #5 shows an ATI graphics card, and the fglrx binary driver is listed in ProcModules.txt in comment #8. (As background, in Maverick, I uninstalled the Ubuntu NVIDIA driver packages, and had installed a newer NVIDIA driver directly from one of NVIDIA's .run driver distributions. I did the upgrade in this state. After the upgrade, installing Ubuntu's NVIDIA driver package didn't solve the issue) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/777302 Title: No password prompt on boot for crypted root disk -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I can confirm I have this bug as well on Natty (Dell E6410).
