[Bug 102310] Re: SABnzbd [need-packaging]

2008-01-17 Thread yamal
I have had a working package for a very long time; in fact ever since it
was first uploaded to revu. Unfortunately, the website templates in
sabnzbd at the time lacked proper licensing, and thus no motu would
advocate. The upstream author (and apparent copyright holder of the
templates) has apparently abandoned the project, creating a deadlock.

I have meanwhile been monitoring alternative templates (nova) to see if
these could be used. Now that sabnzbdplus is finally registered as a
proper project rather than a random set of (sometimes questionable
quality) hacks and has come out with a full release, I will check this
one out (looks promising since it includes a copyright statement on the
templates) and update my package accordingly. Thanks for bringing it to
my attention.

Please stop wasting time duplicating my work; whilst installing sabnzbd
for personal use never was hard (as demonstrated above), there's alot
more to it when creating a proper package that complies with all the
relevant demands.

[Bug 92652] Re: C-cedil not present in US-International keyboard

2007-12-17 Thread yamal
It seems that there's a common misconception about the us-intl keyboard
layout on a qwerty keyboard being something 'brazilian', see the comment
of L M Nicolosi (on 2007-11-02) which speaks of a US Int Keyboard
configured for English and Br-Portuguese. Such a thing doesn't exist.
All there is, is a qwerty keyboard configured to use a generic 'US
English (international)' layout. Nothing brazilian or portuguese about
that; this very same layout is used all around the world. And many of
those using it, do expect ć, ś, ŕ, ź, ń (as well as ĺ ḱ ṕ ý ǵ ḿ and so
on) to be available on their keyboard in the most logical place, being
«' + character = character w/ acute accent». In the specific case of ć,
this letter exists in Polish, Serbian, Montenegrin, Croatian, Bosnian,
and Albanian, as well as some latin representations of languages often
written in cyrillic alphabets.

As a result, changing the standard us-intl layout to have ' + c create ç, just
to satisfy brazilian users migrating from windows would:
- destroy the consistent use of «' + character = character with acute accent»
for all others worldwide.
- move the problem to those wanting to write the letter ć.

The title of this bug report should be changed to reflect reality.
Currently, it claims c-cedilla is missing from the layout entirely,
which is not, and has never been the case. C-cedilla in us-intl layout
not where brazilian users migrating from windows expect it would be a
much more appropriate and correct description.

While I don't know whether it's realistic, as a possible solution one
could imagine a layout variant targeted at users wanting to write
(brazilian) portuguese with a qwerty keyboard, either identical to us-
intl but with cedilla replacing ć, or even customized to trigger only
those accents actually used in portuguese. So basically, a us-intl-
cedilla or br-qwerty layout variant (whatever the name, you get the
idea), which would leave the standard us-intl intact and at the same
time allow for this specific ç preference.

Thank you for your comments. Load average can be larger than one, in

[Bug 159583] Re: menu entry has no icon

2007-11-03 Thread yamal
Mario, that file contains only an small piece of c programming, an array
that is apparently intended to create an icon. This data is only used in
main.c near line 131 as follows:

   icon_bitmap = gdk_bitmap_create_from_data(main_w-window,
  icon_bitmap_bits, icon_bitmap_width, icon_bitmap_height);
   gdk_window_set_icon(main_w-window, NULL, icon_bitmap, NULL);

This function gdk_bitmap_create_from_data [1] wants input data in XBM
format, and I think it's exactly that what the icon_bitmap file
contains. Unfortunately, if so, it won't be much use as an icon since
this file type seems to be mono-color [2] only :(

[2] = http://www.fileformat.info/format/xbm/

[Bug 159580] lynx web browser kde menu entry does not have an icon

2007-11-02 Thread yamal
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: lynx

lynx web browser kde menu entry, found under internet, does not have
an icon. Its desktop file specifies web-browser to be used; icon files
by this name appear to be part of various gnome-related icon and theme
packages. None of those are dependencies of the lynx package, which
itself doesn't ship any icons.

[Bug 159600] kde menu entry for 'Keyring Manager' has no icon

2007-11-02 Thread yamal
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-keyring-manager

On gutsy's kde menu, the Keyring Manager menu entry (found under both
'Utilities' and 'System') does not have an icon. The desktop file of

this name is available from the gnome-icon-theme and gnome-icon-theme-

[Bug 55080] Re: download speed reported by Klibido is way too high

2007-11-01 Thread yamal
Thanks for your efforts in trying to solve this bug :)

Just updated to kubuntu gutsy tonight, and with a freshly (re)configured
klibido found the problem to still exist in 0.2.5-3ubuntu5. The speeds
measured by various monitoring applications are accurate. I'm attaching
a ogg/theora video of a 716 MBytes download with an average speed of
around 1875 kBytes/s, consistent with the per server speed limit of 8
mbit/s. The monitoring application visible in the video is knemo;
largest error happens around 04:40 when klibido indicates a total speed
of some 500 mbit/s.

[Bug 148233] Re: Canada Ubuntu repositories are unstable and slow

2007-10-09 Thread yamal
As you are probably aware, Ubuntu uses CC.archive.ubuntu.com with CC
being a two-letter country code. Any country that doesn't have its own
mirror is referred to the very same main servers. Since both Canada
and the USA do not have repository mirrors, they too automatically use
the main servers. These are located in the United Kingdom, and may be
slow depending on load (gutsy beta was just released when this bug was
filed) and distance to your location. Current download speed seems fine
at well over 50 mbit/s.

Note that as a result of the above, there will be no difference between
using the ca or us archive at this time. All but one of the forum
threads you listed are ancient history and thus may not reflect the
current situation. For fast repositories, your best choice is probably a
western-European mirror like nl, ch, se, dk, be.

[Bug 146716] page allocation failures under network load

2007-09-29 Thread yamal
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.20

When there's is significant network load, numerous page allocation
failures appear in syslog. System does not crash, but short time of
total unresponsiveness or even complete xorg hangs do happen. Reproduces
quite easily when there's high network traffic (100mbit), such as when
wget'ing some dvd iso from a fast mirror, or watching movies on divx
stage6 website (with firefox + mplayerplugin). Tried with different
network cards but that made no difference.

To the best of my knowledge, the problem started appearing after the latest
security update to 2.6.20-16.32 (USN-518-1).
Kubuntu Feisty, Linux hostname 2.6.20-16-lowlatency #2 SMP PREEMPT Sun Sep 23
19:54:02 UTC 2007 i686 GNU/Linux

[Bug 69168] Re: konqueror file manager loses chosen view setting

2007-09-28 Thread yamal
Browsing files uses a kpart, and browsing images uses another kpart.
When you change the view to detailled, this isn't set to become the
default, and will just stay detailled during your kpart session.
When you open an image, you unload the file browsing kpart and load the
 gwenview part.
Then, when clicking up you just re-load the file browsing kpart, and
therefore reloading the configuration of it, which is still icons and not
 detailled

Note that this bug still happens if, like on my system, detailed list
view is set as the default by storing it as such in the 'file
management' profile. So, when starting up konqueror everything is
correctly shown using detailed list view - yet re-loading the file
browsing kpart causes icon view to appear. One would certainly expect
that the result of reloading a kpart without modifying it's
configuration inbetween would have an identical result to the first
loading of the same kpart only seconds earlier.

Too bad this is not getting fixed - but on the bright side of things, at
least we gained a workaround in the process

[Bug 146486] knetstats resets interface's Received statistic at 4096MB

2007-09-28 Thread yamal
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: knetstats

When monitoring an interface using knetstats, clicking on the tray icon
shows a little window titled details of interface. It shows some
real-time statistics like upload and download speed, as well as the
amount of data received and transmitted.

Unfortunately, when reaching 4096 MB, the Received counter is reset
and starts from zero again. This basically makes the counter completely
useless as there is no way to know how often this has already happened
and therefore how much data has been received. See attached ogg/theora
video for a true multimedia bug experience.

If this is caused by some lower level (kernel?) counter being reset,
then knetstats should be able to detect this and display the correct
statistics anyway.

Kubuntu feisty, knetstats 1.6-0ubuntu1.

[Bug 141419] Re: Inaccurate Longitude

2007-09-21 Thread yamal
This is not a bug in any part of Ubuntu; firefox will simply display
whatever google sends it. If you feel there's an error in their maps or
data (like a border being in the wrong place), please contact google
about that.

Confirmed on kubuntu feisty (with kde 3.5.7 packages from kubuntu.org).
Crashes after double-clicking on the printer icon, no such problem with
other modules or when using single-click.

3.5.7-0ubuntu1~feisty1

[Bug 121984] Re: kandy: no icon in kubuntu feisty's kde menu

2007-09-18 Thread yamal
Just found that copying the (48x48) icon over to /usr/share/pixmaps/
makes it appear on the menu item. Apparently, it is just not found
otherwise.

So a possible solution would be to just include a copy of the icon in
the kandy package and install it to the above location. Don't know if
that's acceptable to the packaging gods though.

[Bug 132183] Re: pppoeconf missing dependency 'modconf'

2007-09-08 Thread yamal
While I understand from that changelog that the modconf dependency was
left out on purpose, shouldn't that change also require that all use of
modconf be removed from the oeconf script as a consequence?

Otherwise, the desire to satisfy the system (of full separation between
main and universe) becomes an excuse to introduce bugs into packages.
