I think its a good idea but we need to be careful to structure it so we
get useful results, for example rather than asking should Ubuntu GNOME
ship with the latest GNOME (everyone will just answer yes to that).
Maybe ask what do you value most in a release: a.) Stablility, b.) bleeding
 edge software etc

Completely agree with you. Everyone will answer to have the latest
 version of GNOME.

No vote (on the questions)! that would defy all purpose of a survery, probably

I know, but we'll make them do it on a default ubuntu system, so JS is
 enabled ;-)
But indeed, for future stuff we might want to look to that. On the other
hand, if you don't have JS enabled:
a.) you know how to enable it on trusted sites
b.) you're working on a weird browser and have a backup browser for
 normal work
c.) you know what you're doing and how to fix it
 d.) you're on windows..

Or at least, that's how I see it :s

Good point, I need to fix that.. THX!

  * page 3: standaard software aanbod - not very clear. Does this mean
installed by default, or available in repo's?

It's by default, I'll make it clear.. :)

 Otherwise, great poll!
 Let's hope for a big response. :)

We're going to put it on during Dipro Genk. Afterwards I'll had 2 (or so)

I thought the survey was alright mate. I filled it out. I'm a bit of a
sucker for tux surveys, for some odd reason. And as long as you got the
results that you set out to get, that's all that really matters.
Anyway, I'd be curious of the results when you have them available.
Certainly post them to the mailing list.

They aren't strictly a bussines, but Uckfield Community Technology

they'd be willing to give you more details (website is
http://www.uctc.e-sussex.sch.uk

There's a network of hand-built thinclients (ITX), which have no HD or
CD drive, they boot off of PXE. Usually they boot off of PXE to
Thinstation (which then connects to a Citrix Presentation Server
running on one of 13 M$ Server 2003 boxes). However, if you press a
key on startup within 1 second of acquiring an IP address, you get a
PXE boot menu, which allows you to boot off of Thinstation, Trinity
Rescue Kit or Ubuntu. Ubuntu works by using LTSP to connect to the
Ubuntu LTSP server. When you login, passwords are checked via a LDAP
server running on localhost.

Many thanks

Re: [ubuntu-marketing] Ubuntu Server survey

2008-05-28 Thread John Botscharow
I'll post my review of your survet in a few hours. It's almost dinner
time here, so I will postpone doing this until after dinner. I think
better on a full stomach. LOL

I think cross-tema representation on the marketing team is almost a
necessity and something we should market once we get our house in
order.

Peace!

John

The proposed press release is here:

 * https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ServerTeam/Survey/Launch

As I wrote this based on existing documentation and cobbled together
press releases from other sources I would appreciate some feedback,
 specifically:

 * Are there aspects of the text and form that need modifying?
 * Does the submission list (at the bottom) need revision?

During the Ubuntu Server meeting today interest was expressed in further
collaboration between Ubuntu Marketing and Ubuntu Server - the actual
words from the chair were: great - I'm eager to see how we can
 collaborate with the ubuntu-marketing team

While I'm not yet sure we have the model right yet (from a scalability
 perspective), I think that a representative from a team (ubuntu-server -
in this case me) being part of ubuntu-marketing is a good start. It may
well be duplicated across other teams and LoCos.

 Love to hear from you.

Might want to contact some of the press contacts that Fedora has
collected: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Marketing/Press/Publications

My first question is: what would be better: a PDF (that is
fillable/tickable (did I just create a new word? :) ) and can be emailed
to me) or: an online survey on our website that the readers could be
directed to from the magazine. I was thinking of the PDF way but
although Scribus can create PDF forms, ironically the resulting PDF
requires Adobe Reader to display the form properly so that's no good.
Any other apps that can create nice fillable/tickable PDF forms?

Second question: as well as putting in questions related to the magazine
(article likes/dislikes etc.) what would you folks like asked in a
  survey?

I would love to see questions about participation in marketing/fridge/full
circle (if they have considered it before and if they would consider it
again). Ask them if they want to be contacted about specific projects.

Is there a place that people can post/email the responses? If so, I can put
up a story on the Fridge.

Now I will answer your questions.

1. I would do a webform, as it will give you faster results
2. Ask about each specific column (a lot of magazine surveys have this)

[ubuntu-marketing] Survey Questions

2006-08-11 Thread Melissa Draper
Greetings,

I'm writing this as a reminder about the Survey project and to ask for
everyone's involvement.

The wiki page is located at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/MarketingTeam/SurveyQuestionIdeas

A few days ago now, David Symons aka Bimberi added the 'Previous Users'
section, making a third survey. So far only 2 questions have been added
to that section. I invite you all to add ideas to this area to help us
understand *why* people are turning their backs on Ubuntu. It would also
be nice for more question ideas across the board, but at this time, I'm
going to champion the Previous Users section more, since it joined the
race late.

I hope to have enough questions in about a fortnight's time to start
drawing up drafts of the surveys, so there's plenty of time to test,
review and distribute.

Let's get cracking!
