Outra opção para resolver o problema do Locale é compilar o locale pt_BR. Para fazer isso execute: sudo locale-gen --no-purge --lang pt_BR Creio que isso seja um pequeno bug da versão 12.04. Tenta mudar teu /etc/default/locale para: LANG="pt_BR.UTF-8" LANGUAGE="pt_BR.UTF-8:pt:en" Dá um apt-get update e vê se resolve.
